@thechinglish per the one and only Amazon review, it is 26800 mAh. Couldn’t find anything on Amazon or the sellers website. Idiots don’t realize that many of the people whom would buy this actually know that it matters greatly, and would base a decision to buy on this info.
“And if you want even MORE lasting power, it’s compatible 24W solar panel.” Does it have a solar panel built in? Or it’s compatible with any random 24W solar panel you happen to have around? (Yes, I’m that grammar nerd, but I’m honestly curious because I could see this being something my dad could use when camping)
@Jamileigh17 yeah man, whoever wrote the copy this week really needs better grammar skills. He made it sound like it comes with the solar charger, also said it has USB drives, not ports.
According to the lone Amazon review, this thing clocks in at 26,800 mAh. Can anyone on staff confirm or, better yet, provide a watt-hour rating? Household power is all well and good, but if it only lasts ten minutes at full draw that’s… significantly less good.
The ad-copy from both Amazon and Ebay for this also appears to be written for a wireless speaker, rather than a power bank, so, uh… additional questions there.
Some people joke they cannot see a person who wears camouflage. But if that were the case, I wouldn’t have seen that military man (in full uniform) making love to my wife…
@hamjudo Watt-hours are somewhat tricky since there are multiple voltage outputs available. My math might be wrong, but I think I got it right:
12 volt inverters require approximately one (1) amp of DC input for each 10 watts of AC output. In this case, the 110VAC outlet fully loaded is 80W, or 8A current draw. That’s 96W DC. This battery should last about 3.35 hours. So using the 110V AC outlet at full capacity, this would effectively have 80W * 3.35h ~= 268Wh capacity.
The 12V 6A car outlet, fully loaded (72W) should last 4.76 hours, so 72W * 4.76h ~= 340Wh. Another way to calculate this is 26.8 Ah * 12V ~= 340Wh
Each 5V 2.4A outlet has 26.8Ah * 5V ~= 130Wh
Obviously if you use multiple outlets at the same time, you will drain faster, and presumably there is an 80W max total output.
@hamjudo Actually, the 100W rating is probably max DC output, which just covers the 80W inverter fully loaded, so you can probably combine up to 100W of the DC outputs, but I’d go off of 80W to be safe.
@dalekjoe@hamjudo, I’m sorry, but you’re gonna have to redo your math! Every single equation & number was wrong!! Just All Wrong!! Just kidding, but I hope I, at least, rattled you a little! Hee, Hee, Hee!! BTW, Awesome Frucking Calculations & A Great Job!!..Dammit, Now, I’m Gettin Jealous!!
@hamjudo I don’t know where you are getting those hour use rates from, with only power you don’t know what the energy is unless they give us a Max use time at full power… Also your AC calculations are definitely wrong, 10 amp DC input gives 1amp AC output (power must be preserved!) 80 W AC output is less than one amp which is probably fine for most laptop chargers
@hamjudo@mrh1238 Also, it takes about 1A DC for 10W of 110V DC. 10W/110V = 0.09 ADC, so yes, power is preserved, and you are correct, 10A DC could provide ~1A AC.
To anyone who’s wondering about capacity: companies usually advertise their capacities at 3.7V discharge rates. In this case, “100 watts of peak power” probably actually means watt-hours, since otherwise the 12V/10A cigarette lighter port wouldn’t make much sense.
So the capacity here is 100Wh/3.7V=27,000mAh. In reality, at 5V, you’d be looking at a capacity closer to 15,000-20,000mAh, depending on the quality of the batteries and circuit, which determine the amount of power lost to heat. Using a USB power meter, I only get about 6,000-7,000mAh out of my advertised-as 10,000mAh USB power packs of different brands at a 5V discharge rate.
This thing has fairly decent features at this capacity for this price, and I kind of want to buy it, but I’d personally prefer one of those hundreds-of-thousands mAh units you can get for $300-400 from Anker and such.
Just to add: if you look at the second-to-last photo, which appears to be of a different product, it actually shows a label with “100 Wh” in the upper-right section of the power bank.
@ShotgunX I wouldn’t assume that. It’s a brick with a handle which would not be the case if it was 3.7V lithium. I would not be at all surprised if it’s a 12V SLA chunk of junk. They advertise the max output on an inverter which means 100W AC and has nothing to do with the battery at all
@bmilne81@moofi@ShotgunX not to be a dick but there multiple occurrences of things saying new/ or refurbished. That are wrong. A lot. This is a case where even the manufacturer doesn’t seem to sell it or give specs.
I believe you weighted it. Probably for shipping cost. I believe that weight does not indicate SLA.
I also believe you guys have no idea what battery tech you are selling or the actual specs. That’s disappointing
@bmilne81@ShotgunX@unksol Not to be a dick but you realize you are complaining about lack of product specs on a website called meh… Run by a company called a mediocre corporation…
@bmilne81@moofi@ShotgunX yeah but I didn’t think we had fallen to mystery spec what’s in it level. Where we can’t even Google it. When it’s that bad I think it’s kinda on you to ask.
Which truck did it fall off . Or at least turn the screws and look. I’m not asking you to blow it up.
The 26,800 mAh rating is probably the sum of the mAh ratings of the individual 3.7V cells in the pack. Note that is a wee bit under 100 watt hours, so customers can each take one of these onto a passenger airliner.
These products are typically wired so that the 12v outlet is driven straight off of the batteries, which means there are probably 3 sets of 3,000 mAh cells in series. When the cells are fully charged to 4.2 volts, that is 12.6 volts total. The battery protection circuit probably cuts off power around 3.2 volts, 9.6 volts when nearly empty.
@bmilne81@moofi@ShotgunX@unksol Not to be a dick but, are you usually willing to spend $70 on a mystery box with no information? The amount of energy stored is kind of the most important information. If so, I am willing to sell you a container of gasoline capable of delivering 1TW of power for $70 and even throw in free shipping!
@ShotgunX@unksol This quote is from the “Details” section; “Boasting 100-Watt hours of electrifying power to the outside world, the Kodiak Power Station 100 is ready to take on whatever you can throw at it.”
The web page also contains contradictory marketing drivel.
@bmilne81@Fen_Star@ShotgunX@unksol I’ll give you that the MFR doesn’t have a bunch of specs on it. Probably why we ended up with it. However, a quick Google search pulls up (literally the 4th link from Target) says it has a capacity of 26,800mAh. Should we have used that, probably…
@bmilne81@moofi@ShotgunX@unksol You could have also tested it. Just pull out the lipo and hook it up to a charger, most have a charge/discharge cycle that will measure the energy capacity. Obviously that only tells you what the capacity for the one you tested was and it could vary for each one, but it is better than some random search result.
@PooltoyWolf Solution to sticky rubber: feathers. Side benefit is that it will look fabulous and can still be camouflage if we use it in a chicken coop or gay club.
Since I Live in the country, I don’t go out into the woods. I Am the fuckin woods!! This ‘Thing’ cost to much to ‘hope’ it’s worth the money!! For That Reason, {Shark Tank quote}I’m Out!! <-he’s free!!
There isn’t much info on this unit not even on Youtube that’s astounding in my eyes, I clicked the Amazon Link and in 2 sentences they list 3 different weights for this product, so give us some examples of what this badass mini-me can do, Laptop 3 hours? Toaster 6 minutes? at 1000 watts, led bulb 1000 hours? ok I drained the battery how long to fully recharge, can you remove the batteries, whats the exp. date for the batteries? Because I’m looking for a reason to buy this item, Please if you may provide more info mate, what is the charge time for a car charger, wall charger and solar charge Inquiring minds want to know ok? I have a feeling this is new old stock repackaged because I can’t find these hardly anywhere, or the reviews of the unit offered, etc, I also took notice that this is extremely small almost the size of your mousepad and of course about 7 inches tall, very compact in my humble opinion.The more batteries the unit has the better chance for a malfunction.
@cfg83 Coincidentally, I actually have a NEFARIOUS purpose for this. I do craft shows with tents and stuff. I am hoping this can power a string of led lights for shows that run past sunset. It would only need to last for about 2 hours, so I don’t think I would be asking too much of it if the LED lights are the right wattage.
The box for this unit claims, in no uncertain text, that it will run a blender or an electric air pump to inflate an air mattress. I have tested mine with two different AC electric pumps and one 12 volt DC pump, and it will not run any of them at ALL. I’d call that false advertising by the manufacturer! (I never tried the blender because I knew for a fact it wouldn’t run if the air pumps didn’t.) The unit does power a 75-watt incandescent light bulb just fine, so it’s not lying about its 80 watt maximum continuous rating. Still though, it’s disappointing to see the manufacturer pretty much lie right on the box about what it can do. (I have never seen an electric air pump or a blender that uses less than 80 watts of power to run!)
The box also claims this thing can run a refrigerator or a 16-inch TV…a peltier fridge maybe, but definitely not a real refrigerator…the compressor alone will take several amps to start! 16 inches is a weird size for a TV, but I haven’t tried it with any of my flat panels. It wouldn’t even attempt to start a 13" CRT.
Overall though, I am happy with it, and it does most of the other stuff it’s supposed to do, according to the box. I just hope I get some good use out of it before I have to wipe the entire external surface with rubbing alcohol!
@PooltoyWolf one thing to watch, a 75 watt lightbulb will light up with less power than 75 watts. How much less depends on the bulb, it’s analog tech. You’ll just get a little bit warmer light if, say, it’s only getting 60 watts. Like it’s on a dimmer switch.
@djslack It ran the bulb for several minutes just fine with no hiccups, and at the same apparent brightness as running from a wall outlet. (I only ran it for a few minutes because I didn’t want to drain the battery)

Here’s a Fun Fact for You
The use of camouflage was first widely practiced by German rifle units. Known as jäger units, the German riflemen wore green uniforms to better blend into their surroundings. By World War I, almost all militaries employed the use of camouflage and even recruited artists as camouflage officers. Some people joke they cannot see a person who wears camouflage. But if that were the case, I wouldn’t have seen that military man (in full uniform) making love to my wife–on a dreary day, not long ago–when I came home early from work.
I will keep this is my car for when my cellphone or laptop dies. I may take in on the plane, if allowed, as I fly cross-country monthly. Does anyone know if this unit is FAA approved and will be allowed to be carried-on? Or checked baggage? Thanks.
@magicbymark That is a great use case. If they allow USB power bricks then they should allow this. But maybe the cigarette lighter interface would be their excuse to say No!
@Fen_Star the TSA allows 100Wh or less lithium batteries in carry ons if the airlines approve, according to their list of stuff you can bring on an airplane.
Just received mine last night. Seems to be OK; still charging (plugged-in to AC adapter a few hours ago).
After that I will see if it can hold a charge (at least somewhat, within return period). Don’t want bad old batteries…
Was disappointed that it did not come with a DC power-in (i.e. lighter-plug) cord for charging. I thought that was implied but upon careful reading it was not. It said it can charge from DC but not that they give you the cord to do it. Cheap inglorious basterds… The box does say “sold separately.” Other cords from GOOD REPUTABLE brands like GoalZero should work, I think. Need to try.
Goofy camo look is nice so I will fit in if I got to redneck country. (Hey, dude, it’s OK, I got my Mossy Oak seal of approval). Weird rubbery coating which as someone posted, will turn to sticky Chinese toxic waste within 5 years.
One more thing I bought a bunch of converters from Meh in the 30 dollar range for 2x I believe i bought 6 of these, that was a few years ago I didn’t even break the unit out of its shell,I kinda feel that those can do the same thing if connected to a Fat Max or 2 ? Or is that a bad idea,
I have a 20,000 mAh power brick. It’s shaped like a removable laptop battery with 2 USB connectors. The thing that makes this enticing is the other outlets and I have a fold-out solar panel that could keep this gizmo juiced up.
Gonna think about it … . If it ain’t sold out while I am thinking, then I may just pill the trugger, .
The manual helps in understanding how the heck it works - initially thought this was just some fancy inverter/breakout box only. To answer a question they fail at describing on their website: It’s a 100 watts is just the peak power rating, 26,800 mah is supposedly the capacity from an amazon review . Uses a separate cable for charging at home, doesn’t seem there’s a way to easily store the cable despite the ruggedized design of the whole thing. Charging it in the car requires an adapter sold separately.
Meh, but intriguing. Could be interesting to use for operating equipment outside (tools, vacuum) but not sure about power limitations.
Thiink it could be used for vehicle jumpstarting with the appropriate cable but they don’t list CCA rating. Anyone know? Would consider purchase if it’s capable of this.
@jml326 It depends on the size of the amp and the speakers, but most likely no. It would power the mixer though at least for a bit. You lose ~15% of your power going through the inverter to convert the DC battery voltage to AC, and then about the same amount inside the power supply of the amp converting the AC back to DC. My suggestion, if you’re planning to do this often, is to get a 12vdc power amp (i.e. car stereo amp) and power it from a deep cycle marine battery (> 100Ah @12v) from Costco ($90). That will give you Much more efficient use of power and money. Just be sure to look at the power the amp supplies at 8 ohms, as most car stereo amps are rated 4 ohms but are certainly capable of 8 ohm operation, which is almost definitely what your speakers are. Rule of thumb: divide the 4ohm power (watts) rating by 2 to get the 8 ohm rating. Then get a cheap 100 watt inverter which should be more than enough to power your mixer from the same battery. Use a fully charged cellphone for music because it will use its own battery much more efficiently than any outside power source.
I hope that info is useful!
@dam091 I bought one. I don’t know. Looks like a cheap crappy version of better power banks. But I got the camo one so nobody will know that I was stupid enough to buy it. Will see what shows up next week.
Show us the power capacity you cowards
@thechinglish Yeah, And Show Us How Long Each Fuckin Charge Is Good For-Minimum & Maximum, Dammit!! You Fn Cowards!!
@Squic This listing confirms the 26,800 mAh figure
Oddly, the manufacturer’s website does not list capacity, and sounds like it was written by Meh.com
@ggrochr @Squic That appears to just be a website that sells the product, as https://www.outdoortechnology.com/collections/portable-power is the manufacturer.
@DarkHuD @Squic Yeah I initially posted the wrong link. Right link for outdoortech posted now.
I’d worry about not being able to find the camo version in the woods when I need it …
@stolicat LOL GOOD ONE
@stolicat, worse yet, if you’re wearing camo & got lost, no one {except, maybe a fuckin bear} could find you, or that damned contraption!¡!
“I wouldn’t have seen that military man (in full uniform) making love to my wife–on a dreary day, not long ago–when I came home early from work.”
See what you get for being a slacker?? If you hadn’t left work early, everything would have been fine. Its all your fault…
Are you sure there was just one guy?
I’ve seen better write ups on a package of Baloney…
@fastharrydotcom I like this.
So this is a power bank, right?
@sammydog01 Technically it’s an inverter with a battery.
@dalekjoe @sammydog01 or a power bank with an inverter
@pmarin @sammydog01 touché
What is the energy capacity of this thing in terms of watt-hours or joules? The right up tells us that it can put out 100 watts, but not for how long.
@hamjudo And the specs on this page say 80 watts!
@hamjudo From the single Amazon review, it is apparently 26,800 mAh.
@dalekjoe @hamjudo I am almost 100% confident that the watt rating advertised for this product is actually watt-hours. See my post below.
@dalekjoe @hamjudo, I’m sorry, but you’re gonna have to redo your math!
PANS! GLANDS! CRAYONS! AWESOME!
@hamjudo @Zendriver Wow thanks. That’s not worth $70 to me.
@hamjudo @mrh1238 26,800mAh gives the max use time, if we assume continuous current draw at max load (Ah/A = h).
As to DC current draw for a 12V inverter:
https://www.vanner.com/estimating-power-requirements/
@hamjudo @mrh1238 Also, it takes about 1A DC for 10W of 110V DC. 10W/110V = 0.09 ADC, so yes, power is preserved, and you are correct, 10A DC could provide ~1A AC.
TL;DR Loaded to max rating, you should get 3-5 hours continuous use. Less loaded may last longer. USB only should last much longer.
They advertise the max output on an inverter which means 100W AC and has nothing to do with the battery at all
@ShotgunX @unksol probably not with a total weight of 2.5 lbs though.
@bmilne81 @ShotgunX you really trust their specs either way? Or the weight? Thing is worthless without accurate battery specs.
@bmilne81 @ShotgunX @unksol I actually weighed it personally.
@bmilne81 @moofi @ShotgunX not to be a dick but there multiple occurrences of things saying new/ or refurbished. That are wrong. A lot. This is a case where even the manufacturer doesn’t seem to sell it or give specs.
I believe you weighted it. Probably for shipping cost. I believe that weight does not indicate SLA.

@ShotgunX You are correct, it is rated at 100 watt-hours.
https://www.outdoortechnology.com/collections/portable-power/products/kodiak-100-power-station?variant=5456467361823
@hamjudo @ShotgunX no it’s not. That link clearly says it’s rated for 100W peak power on AC. That does Not involve time
@bmilne81 @moofi @ShotgunX @unksol Not to be a dick but, are you usually willing to spend $70 on a mystery box with no information? The amount of energy stored is kind of the most important information. From the official product page:
“It is coated in a rugged rubberized plastic cover…”
Translation: It will be sticky and completely untouchable in 5 years.
I’m torn, though. If it works as advertised, this is a product I can get genuine, regular use from.
@PooltoyWolf Solution to sticky rubber: feathers. Side benefit is that it will look fabulous and can still be camouflage if we use it in a chicken coop or gay club.

Pardon my interruption, but I understand missing and erratic periods can be a sign of a hormonal issue. An endocrinologist might be able to help.
@mellowirishgent Amazon description also says it plays music.
This has got to be one of the best worst deals I’ve seen yet.
@telepheedian Yeah. If it were $50 then I would have bought it already. Right now I almost want it to sell out before I lose control and buy it.
Solar panel not included, I assume?
@DJ Sun not included either.
@DJ @Hanky That’s why I always carry spare flashlights with me; they help me recharge my solar-powered batteries in a pinch.
There appears to be some discrepancy among the photos as to whether the 12V outlet provides 6 or 10 amps.
USB drives? How about USB ports?
@talidal to arrive at the port you ha e to drive there.
Will this power my house when the electric goes out during a hurricane?
@arfdawg no
@SpocKirk Do I need two?
@arfdawg Do you have a TinyHouse?
@frd1963 12,800 SF
@arfdawg Then a resounding “no” on both counts
@frd1963 Could I settle for it lighting up a Barbie Dream House?
@arfdawg @frd1963 with a 220v parallel converter if you get two.
@frd1963 Why is your house so small?
@Fen_Star @frd1963 I’m Peter Dinklage’s stunt double.
@arfdawg @Fen_Star @frd1963 In GoT days there was no A/C or refrigeration, so Peter Dinklage would be OK with that. But do we have wine and hookers?
Co-incidentally, there is a related Meh site that has the Wine part covered. The other part, um, no!
Or not yet anyway.
Is it too late to broadcast my mehstaken purchase? It’s being delivered via the yappy-nefarious-goblin truck line :

@cfg83 @djslack In an unrelated note, this guy:
probably doesn’t have any trouble getting the right-of-way.
@therealjrn is it just me or does that have a kind of Maximum Overdrive thing going on?
Edit: Oh wait. It is the Maximum Overdrive truck. It totally has that thing going on. Lol
@djslack ha ha
@PooltoyWolf
Um…
FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY
/ha ha, I know you meant the weird rubberized self-destructing surface.
@therealjrn It wouldn’t be Meh without a ‘For External Use Only’ joke!

What’s in the Box?

@magicbymark There is no way in hell this is FAA approved.
@Fen_Star the TSA allows 100Wh or less lithium batteries in carry ons if the airlines approve, according to their list of stuff you can bring on an airplane.
@magicbymark Heavy unknown electronic thing with wires and picture of bigfoot on it… I’d say, “No!”
@magicbymark But maybe with the MossyOak camo they won’t notice it if you are in heavily forested airport lobbies?
@pmarin /image cord-not-included
For external use only, and it can drive margaritas (to Margaritaville?)
@cfg83 This does not have the solar panel included, though…
@TimW No problemo. I already found a solar panel at a thrift shop. The folding kind for hiking 'n stuff.
here’s a link to the owners manual. still specs are wanting
@mehod Thanks, saw this as well.
I really want DJ at my college football tailgate. Can I power my equipment with this? Cell phone, amp, 2 speaker towers, and a mic?
@jml326 80w won’t run much of an amp. @frd1963 speaks the truth above, but if you want to use the ac amp you already have you probably want a generator. This guy will do that for not much more money if you can put up with 2 stroke noise:
https://www.harborfreight.com/900-watt-max-starting-2-cycle-gas-powered-generator-epacarb-63025.html
Get one of the ubiquitous 20% off coupons and walk out with DJ power for $100 plus tax.
@djslack @frd1963 can’t have gas generators at tailgate
@jml326 then it’s probably cheaper to get a 12V amp and small inverter than a bigger AC power pack.
How many watts is your amp anyway?
@djslack was thinking of getting a second battery in my trunk.
@jml326 look at inverter generators. They’re not silent but they’re worlds quieter than a regular liar generator.
$69?
nice.
@jerk_nugget
Nice.
@jerk_nugget WTF up with ur username?
@pmarin nothing, what’s up with yours?
So what’s the verdict here? Yay or nay? Is this thing worth it?
@dam091 I bought one. I don’t know. Looks like a cheap crappy version of better power banks. But I got the camo one so nobody will know that I was stupid enough to buy it. Will see what shows up next week.
Just wanted to see what the giphy for this was
/giphy somber-moving-gazelle
( restless-nautical-garlic ) I can’t help it, I waited till three minutes before 12 AM before I purchased it. I wanted to camo one but oh well…
@bigtom67 You will either be glad or sorry for your choice. But I wanted to see what a nautical garlic would pull up, so here is what I randomly get:
/giphy restless-nautical-garlic
@bigtom67 well that’s a strange one I don’t get that at all…
Why are pictures 2, 3 and 4 blank
Ok, similar to previous question. I have this already :
https://www.bioennopower.com/collections/solar-panels/products/28-watt-foldable-solar-panel
It says 28 watts, but the “output” of the panel is 12-18 volts/1.55 amps max. That is less than the 19 volts/2 amp input for the Kodiak.
I will test the output of the wall charger and the solar panel with a multimeter to get exact numbers, but in the meantime, my question is :
Do I need a charger controller between the solar panel and the Kodiak?
