8Three items have taken a week or longer to be transported from Olathe, KS (where ever in the hell that is) to Martinsburg, WV-a little over 900 miles. One item just got there after 7 days in transit and now has “Delivery exception”. WTF is going on?

It does seem like Olathe, KS is the new Bermuda Triangle. My IRK was supposed to be delivered to me Wednesday 6/29 in New York, but it appears to have gotten stuck in Olathe, KS. Now it’s scheduled to be delivered Saturday 7/2. The regret is strong with this one.
Time to bring Pitney Bowes back?

FedEx could be next
Olathe is a suburb of Kansas City, and FedEx has a big regional hub there. For the past several years, I have noticed an increasing number of incidents that look like them misplacing incoming trailers full of parcels and just forgetting about them for anywhere from several days to several weeks. Occasionally, one of those trailers appears to escape to some other hub, and then all sorts of things can go wrong. This is not the only place that FedEx Ground seems to have lost its reliability. Several months back, a pair of parcels I shipped to Michigan got stuck here at the Houston hub for several days, for no apparent reason.
My IRK had been rescheduled to be delivered tomorrow/Saturday and finally arrived in New Jersey, which is closer to New York than Olathe, KS. I just checked tracking again and see it’s been once again rescheduled to be delivered Wednesday, July 6. WTF? The scary part is the weight has been updated from placeholder to 15.6 lbs and dimensions to 20x16x10. That’s more regret than I expected. Must be a lot of trackers.
So it’s not just me that feels FedEx has really gone downhill lately?
@blaineg Ground, yes. They say that the problem is that parcel volumes are high and wildly variable, sometimes beyond their capacity to deliver on time.
My IRK went to Bessemer and apparently went into the ravine.
I don’t live in Bessemer just nearby.
Customer Service just granted me a new IRK !as soon as I asked about the “exception”
See for me, it seems somewhere between GA and VA is the blackhole for fedex. So maanyyy delivery exceptions in the last month.

@ircon96 Many FedEx Ground delivery drivers are not actual FedEx employees; the original operational paradigm that FedEx used was to have all delivery territories owned by private contractors, a system that FedEx acquired from RPE when they bought out that company from Roadway to creat FedEx Ground. Vestiges of it remain in play, with large portions of the FedEx Ground deliveries still being handled by contractor drivers, but most of the old single-driver territories have been homologated together into large blocs under a larger contractor that hires and fires drivers. Exceptions exist, and a friend of mine lives in one of the old one-driver areas. The service there sucks even more than usual.
@werehatrack Hmm, i wonder if the drivers that passive-aggressively refuse to walk the 2 extra steps to put my packages under my gate roof instead of just barely outside the drip edge are the regular sucky ones or the extra sucky?

FedEx Ground between certain points is fast and generally reliable. But they can be very unpredictable.
From Plano to Houston, it’s usually overnight and damage-free. But from Irving to Houston, nearly the same trip? Make me not laugh; “overnight” becomes a rumor. From Houston to Sherman, just a bit up the road from Plano? Box arrives late in the day, mangled. From Houston to Michigan? On time, good shape IF it goes through Memphis or Indy. Same origin and destination via Olathe? Rotsa ruck. Might be on time, might not, high probability that it will need a new label because the old one got rubbed into illegibility. (This, by the way, is why it’s wise to use thermal-print labels, not laser.)

I’m in MI and my last 3 (at least) irks have not been delivered by the delivery date, their always at least 3-5 days late. It’s always fucking Kansas, Kansas is the death hole. Shit I half think they open my irk and take the good stuff out in those days lol. This one said it was supposed to be delivered on Wednesday and today it’s still pending. At 8:29 this morning it was getting shipped to van buren, MI so I’m hoping on delivery tomorrow but we’ll see.
So many first-world problems not getting something hand-delivered to your door as fast as you want.
Especially if it is Meh product, not baby formula or kitty’s favorite cat treats.

Mine has been stuck in Indiana says it’s out in delivery but I’m in Massachusetts so very unlikely. First time this has happened to me.
FedEx Ground SUCKS. My two IRKs were shipped at the same time, and yet one was today (Friday) delivery and the other for Sunday despite both having the same location/status/tracking history. And now both are delayed, with the Friday one saying Pending and Sunday still says Sunday. WTF. With modern technology on logistics, one would think FedEx would have their shit together. Anyway we can lobby Meh to shop using crappyass FedEx?!

@sunnysideup22 If the shipper used FedEx Smart Post, it will have a USPS tracking number but FXG will do the actual transport to the destination post office - and if it goes through Olathe, well, that’s the problem. Things sometimes don’t go through Olathe, they check in, but they never seem to check out.
Maybe I should go into Google maps and edit the label on that facility to make it say “Hotel California”. Naah, nobody’s gonna pay any attention that actually has the authority to give a rat’s ass.

I’m in Sacramento and normally they go through NM then AZ then CA. This time, it headed that way and stayed there for 3 days then moved to outside Chicago. Weirdest trip I’ve ever seen a package take.
Very frustrated with Fed EX Ground. A package of mine was supposed to be delivered on Saturday 1/14/23 by the end of the business day, and now I received an update that my package delivery has now been delayed until Wednesday, 1/18/23. This is unacceptable! I payed a good amount for my package. What is the problem, it has been sitting in Kansas since 1/12/23 and looks like it has gone to multiple HUBS. Fed Ex needs to get their s**t together. This is ridiculous!
@Elopezaz When it finally arrives, check all over it for extra labels. If the shipper neglected to kill prior ones on the box, it’s not just a Fedex problem - although why such a label doesn’t cause an exception error that flags the box for visual inapection is just baffling.

I had to practically put up a neon billboard next to my driveway with my house number on it to finally get them to drop a package at my gate. They make absolutely ZERO effort. I had to chuckle to myself a few months ago when i heard the CEO predict a worldwide recession because their revenue & earnings estimates were off. Umm, maybe it’s cuz people are realizing just how much your company sucks & are using other carriers? Denial ain’t just a river, as they say!
