Some years ago in NE Ontario, maybe 30 or 40 degrees below zero, camping on the lake (eg out on the ice, you dig down in the snow a bit and either put up a tarp or not - in this case “or not” as it wasn’t snowing nor going to snow), fantastic northern light show, occasional sound of the ice shifting in its bed (sounds like blowing into a pop bottle, only deeper, where the sound rips across the lake traveling along the ice cracks), sled dogs were quiet and burrowed, students either also quietly watching the show or asleep… it’s so quiet you can hear your heart beat…
After 15 years of working at a nightclub, with NYE being a mandatory shift, I am all about staying home. Hubby and I always have a living room picnic and watch tons of movies.
New year’s is the worst holiday. I just think it’s pointless like… meh another day. Never was a party-er and never done anything for it except stay home. I swear I’m exciting and interesting
@LemonTheCat Kind of agree. NYD also marks the beginning of the ‘sucky gray sameness’ that is January, and the end (for most) of the Holiday season (though we still have the remainder of the 12 Days of Christmas at home).
@LemonTheCat I appreciate having the day off, and the excuse to stay at home away from people. But, yeah, it is basically a nothing holiday; I hate big, loud parties; it’s not worth making a big deal.
I’ve rarely not been up at midnight, but it’s kind of pointless. I think I might intentionally try to go to bed early; the wife usually falls asleep on the couch by then anyway.
Now you kids get the fuck out of here and stop making so much goddamned noise.

@LemonTheCat For me both Christmas and January 1st are like this, but New Year’s has the advantage of many businesses being open.

I just try to stay away from anyone that could be driving drunk…after all, it is amateur night bar none.
