@PurplePawprints From what I’d heard early on, I was fully prepared to loathe Capaldi’s doctor. Once he got past the first four words, though, I was totally hooked. My first choice though, was the phenomenal Bill. She would have been a majorly kick-ass doctor, totally brave, and fully equipped with a heart of gold. I was falling in love with her near the end.

@slydon LOL. I get every one of these references.

On my Plex Server I have every episode (or reconstruction, when there is no episode) of Doctor Who going back to S01E01 from November 1963. No other series comes close to using even 1/4 as much disk space (I just checked and apparently Gilmore Girls is the second largest show in terms of disk space… dang Lauren Graham looked good in nice pair of jeans! Probably still does…)

Had BBC America running on a phone thru Sling, to see the DW announce. The announce never came. Finally I just googled it.

BBC America had been running some fairly boring wilderness survival show during the end of Wimbledon. I don’t know why they didn’t do their own Wimbledon feed here; probably sports event contract rights. Many tennis fanatics think they have great commentary and coverage.

My family is way big on tennis, Dad played 4-5 times a week from teenage years thru his very late 80’s, and still played a little singles at 90 and 91. Younger bro and I are the weak links there, I with horses and younger bro with basketball.

I knew a lot about tennis and could kinda play a little. When there was a major tournament, that’s all we watched, which was fine because we all liked it.

Now I think there is a full tennis channel on cable and fanatics can watch all the time. When cable first hit, in the early 1980’s, you could watch the great Bud Collins doing commentary (was he on NBC?) or watch the BBC live feed. So Dad would put two tv’s into a room and watch both at once.

My older brother once played Jimmy Connors as a teenager, in a big tournament. Conners was playing way above his age bracket then, and still winning more or less all the time.

But the BBC American feed I was watching never did the DW announce, which made me sad.

Glad they got someone who looks to be good. Glad the reactionary twitter horror brigades have not taken this as a call to war yet.

I should confess I’ve barely watched DW.
I mean to. I made an error and tried to start with the First Doctor. Some of those were so bad. I just couldn’t stay with it.

I need to start with the Eccleston and go from there.

Speaking of DW:
I actually own more Tardis t-shirts than I have seen shows. I really like the few modern ones I’ve seen tho. The last Tenth Doctor. The first 11th Doctor. One of the 12th Doctor. One of Eccleston’s. One of the Matt Smith Xmas shows.

I really do mean to try to become a fanatic at some future moment.

All my TV watching is about 15 years out of date, at the least. I have never seen an ep of Walking Dead or Breaking Bad. Intermittent Sopranos and GOT. I have done with first three seasons of Silicon Valley.
