@joelmw@Telanis@yakkoTDI Uhgh… I bought a 5.11 pack for search and rescue, and the weight of the pack alone is more than my vest full of gear. It’s obscene. It’s durable as hell, makes a great command pack, but for actually searching, it’s way too much pack.
Hmm, I paid almost this much for a LowePro backpack designed to carry all my camera gear – I think I used it once.
My go-to backpack for when I’m travelling is this one with no name, (Unless “YOREPEK” has somehow become all the rage without my knowledge.) But it has gone with me just about everywhere, especially as my “personal item” when traveling by plane: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B078X68S66/
All kinds of pockets and useful features for about 1/3 less than today’s offering.
@ciabelle Well put. Over the years of being cheap, I’ve slowly come to appreciate the value of quality. But even at 2/3rds off the “normal” price, and even assuming that this is the quality one would expect, it still seems on the expensive side.
@ciabelle The same reason my Lowepro collects dust now too. I use a larger backpack sent to my honey as a freebie from a vendor. A little patch and embroidery to cover the vendor advertising and it’s a great lowkey travel & camera bag.
@ciabelle How has this held up quality wise? For the price this is an insanely well thought out bag! The only thing that would deter me is if it’s prone to fall apart after a few trips. Thank you for sharing!
@gaspingatstraws It’s gone on at least 7-8 trips over the past 3 years or so. No issues - Zippers and fabric have held up well. Only downside could be that with so many different compartments, it can be tricky to figure out where you stashed your windbreaker or passport in a hurry. It really is the closest thing to a bag of holding.
I have one of these and paid a hundred bucks for it which at the time was 50% off retail. I like it but there are beter thought out backpacks. One of the compartments is rather small and I wish there was a zippered compartment for my plane tix and passport.
Pretty excited about this just because when it was on Woot a few months ago for $99 I ordered one, only to have it subsequently cancelled because they didn’t have enough stock or something. Now I can grab one for almost half price. Sometimes things just work out like that. I’ve used this bag before; it’s not worth $150 but for $60 it’s a no-brainer.
Apparently this was one of that manufacturer’s least pricey backpacks, which explains why it’s not on their website anymore. Would you buy an econobox hatchback from Porsche? No, of course not; you’d be the laughingstock of the both the PCA and the PTA. Same with this thing. People who buy this brand are at least as invested in the bragging rights of ownership as the product itself. Probably more so. I’ll stick to stuff that’s worth the price I’m paying, and I don’t really need a $60 backpack, no matter how wonderful it is. I don’t get much use from the ones I already have. YMMV, and if you use a backpack a lot, this might be just the ticket. But you might want to Sharpie the logo out, to avoid having people think you were dumb enough to pay that brand’s usual asking price. (Or hang a Goodwill tag on it as camouflage…)
You mean the Porsche Cayenne? Yeah, a ton of people bought that one. Oh, and there was the 924 (four cylinders… yeah), 944, and who could forget the 996. Oh, that’s right. Porsche would like everyone to forget about that one.
@TheMonkeyKing I wouldn’t call any of those an econobox. The 924 was admittedly something of a joke because it had an Audi engine in it, and the 914 even more so - but the 914 was marketed in Europe as the VW Porsche. And the Cayenne was definitely not an econobox, and while it had a cargo hatch in the back, that alone does not make it a “hatchback” any more than a Ford Explorer is. The Cayenne was absurd for other reasons, as are all Porsche SUVs. By the way, the Cayenne was horribly overpriced for what it was, which made it a true Porsche.
@macromeh@werehatrack I’m still here. Just had to take time away from the digital world to focus on the physical realm. Just trying to stay sane. Life has been I intensely hectic now that three kids are in scouts, lacrosse and other activities on top of trying to run a small business. I have multiple posts I’ve been meaning to make for months and still have packages to send to certain Mehmbers. It’ll just be like getting delayed irks.
@TheMonkeyKing@werehatrack I used to work on those back in the day. The 914 was a lot more Porsche than the 924. The 914 had a Porsche trans mated to an engine from the VW Type 2 (AKA bus.) 924 was IIRC pretty much VW engine, VW trans, VW electrics. (914 had Porsche electrics, but all were Bosch anyway.) And I thought the economy Porsche was the Boxster, but I had moved on before that came out.
@HankB33@TheMonkeyKing And then there was the 944 Turbo, with the infamous right engine mount that failed reliably about every 40K - and took a solid 7 hours of slog to replace because of the ludicrous engine compartment layout. 100% Porsche, 155% pain in the ass, and pretty much of a bad joke overall.
Ugh, I picked one of these up at Woot back in Jan. for like $100! It is a bit tight and I cannot put all my crap I used to in it, but that is one of the reasons why I picked this bag up, to try and slim down.
Nice laptop bag, I kinda wish there was only 1 drink pouch on the side. $100 was minor buyers remorse, this price seems good,
@OnionSoup well, I actively don’t want the Yeti brand on me, but I want over engineered stuff. I don’t mind the price if the build quality is unmatched, and I’ll hope that the label comes off as ironic.
Well, it appears that the word got out to enough of the people who think paying for a name is worthwhile. Hey, if the sales of these things could fund another round of amazeballs Irks for the rest of us, I say there should be one a week!
Kanye West owns a necktie company that makes backpacks
Called YeTie?
This is so cool
OMG
I will have to buy one in each color.
Everyone is going to be so jealous of my YeTie backpack
Dam Meh.com came out with some Exclusive Limited edition backpacks by Kayne West.
Holy
I googled & can’t find any information on this.
This is really Exclusive
Do you think Kim will go on a date with me if I have a YeTie backpack ?
@dgmoney On what the Meh owners want to use as clickbait, maybe. But those who take advantage just stalk these sites and have 20 email accounts each, and their employees do as well, and so on…same with most ‘deal of the day sites’. Just saying, real ‘individual’ consumers usually get beaten by those who are trying to game the system in general….
@dgmoney@oso
It takes a special, superdedicated type of stupid to think that buying something on a closeout site is a way to make money. If there was money to be made selling it at a higher price, it would have been in the pockets of the people who were selling it at full price to begin with. No, I don’t think there’s anybody really pouncing on this stuff to resell it. Or if they are, they won’t be doing it for very long.
Sorry, I’m a bit of a fool, but this mean it’s not labeled when I receive the product or is it a completely different manufacturer name on the product?
@Egress99 It will have the YETI label; they just can’t come right out and say that on Meh without getting in trouble with the manufacturer. Because it supposedly hurts their “elite” YETI image.
It’s hysterical that these sold out. Overpriced brand, basic backpacks. There are so many better options out there but people jump all over them for the label.
Tom never leaves the house without his emotional support plank:
@awk
/image lebowski confused
@awk Thanks - I was trying to figure out why he was carrying that.
@awk @HankB33 Just because Tom’s got wood you shouldn’t be hard on him…
@awk That’s Jonny, all grown up now
@awk He’s going to Woodworking 1101, but I heard there’s going to be a substitute for a few days. A Mr. Garvey, I think.
@awk @HankB33 Maybe he’s going to a board meeting?
@awk @HankB33 @macromeh I wooden know.
@awk What? It isn’t his self defense board?
wish i could pull the trigger, yet i won’t without knowing who manufactured it
@spacemart You tried to be evasive. Yet I see what you did there.
@spacemart It’s on Amazon with many of the same photos.
@Kidsandliz @spacemart Knockoff brands frequently cut and paste photos from the “real” thing.
[Is “Knockoff” a brand name?]
@spacemart YET I won’t be the one to tell you…
@Kidsandliz @rpstrong @spacemart I suppose you could register Knockoff as a brand name, but if your merch became really popular…
I seem to recall that there was briefly a time when the word Counterfeit was used as a brand name.
@Kidsandliz @spacemart @werehatrack A guy in Nigeria just sold me counterfit.com.
Well fuck them for being too good for our low rent site.
@joelmw Not to mention, JFC, $60 for that?
/giphy yeah right
@joelmw idc I almost got this at full price.
@joelmw I thought $59 was the regular price. It looks like a cheap sack Meh would normally sell. I guess those name brand tags are very expensive.
@joelmw @yakkoTDI That “mystery brand” is reported to have very over-priced coolers.
Ah, I see how you embedded the name in the text. Hadn’t read the copy. Meh, fuck them anyway.
@phendrick @yakkoTDI Yeah, apparently overpriced everything.
@joelmw @yakkoTDI And it’s over 3 pounds. Who the hell wants to commute with an extra 3 pounds?
@joelmw @Telanis @yakkoTDI A sharp commuter would put those extra pounds on their Oyster card.
@Telanis An ambitious drug mule?
@joelmw @Telanis @yakkoTDI Uhgh… I bought a 5.11 pack for search and rescue, and the weight of the pack alone is more than my vest full of gear. It’s obscene. It’s durable as hell, makes a great command pack, but for actually searching, it’s way too much pack.
Perfect timing – I was told to start packing.
@phendrick Left the toilet seat up one too many times, eh?
A Yeti fan would never pay less than full price.
That guy in the back of the truck has a really big foot, Yet I can’t see why he’s in the pitch to sell us an abominable backpack.
Sasquatch gets mistaken for Bigfoot all the time, yeti doesn’t seem to care much.
Is it YETI to say yet?
Haha, missed a YETI tag in one pic.
That’s a pretty “Harry” situation when you can’t reveal who made them!!
Commuter?? Everyone I know works from home.
I’m at a “crossroads” but I think I have too many backpacks already.
I tried to resist, yet I could not…
I think I just got nauseous watching the rum and ritalin spastic “giphy”
@mcemanuel sounds like you need some R&R
I considered these, but I have too many already. Some tech shows I attended before COVID gave nice backpacks like these, with company logos even.

Yet I still find their shit overpriced, even on this site.
/giphy toothless-altruistic-rum
@erthian well well dr spaceman
Wish they spent 1 pic to show the color choices and the rest showing the features.
It’s been too long since Meh tempted me with yet another unneeded backpack.
@steelopus Yeti another unneeded backpack. I feel the same.
Bigfoot prefers to be called Sasquatch. Yethe never complains.

@TheMonkeyKing @werehatrack the cayenne is fugly and a terrible drive to add to the ridiculous price tag!
@sillyheathen @werehatrack Yeah, the Cayenne made my eyes burn.
(Hey sh, long time, no see in the forums! )
@macromeh @werehatrack I’m still here. Just had to take time away from the digital world to focus on the physical realm. Just trying to stay sane. @TheMonkeyKing @werehatrack Lucky for me the 944 was after I moved on.
Loving the edited out Meh icons too.
@Ignorant well I did when they were there
i hope more effort went into making these bags than obscuring the logo on the sales page.
It’s good that you don’t claim you are a copywriter of principle.

I’ve never understood paying stupid amounts for a product just because of the brand name. So that people all know that you overspent on that item.
To me when I see someone with something Yeti it’s an instant flag. “This person is most likely a narcissist. Proceed with caution.”
@OnionSoup well, I actively don’t want the Yeti brand on me, but I want over engineered stuff. I don’t mind the price if the build quality is unmatched, and I’ll hope that the label comes off as ironic.

3 hours, 3 bloody hours to go sold out. Dang y’all are some savages! Some Bigfoot savages at that!
@FPSXpert Not sold out, just paused and then will be restricted to VMP members.
It works for me.
@FPSXpert Nine hours and fifty minutes.
Many clues - Yet I can’t figure out the brand…

Is that Sean Evans in the yellow shirt?
I bought it but now wondering. Will it come with the real logo on it or is it defaced?
@bruinscbr History suggests that the logo will be untouched.
23L is a pretty small backpack. I use one from Patagonia that is 32L.
@Kidsandliz Agreed. I picked up a 40L for my upcoming international travel plans.
Then again, I have a feeling this is meant for school/office use and not really meant to be packed out.

@clarinetbob But at least they do fold flat when not in use.
@clarinetbob @rpstrong And they have magnets to help destroy your credit cards!
… and Yeti I’m at a Crossroads over this backpack…
WTF. U dumb have what? 10 of them?
Shame the Etsy and little store folk snatches up the good stuff only to resell…done with this site!
@oso Do they not have buy limits? Limiting to one unit for hot items would be a way to handle this.

Totally would have bought one if not sold out, also totally would buy a similar 31 L or 40L one…just saying
