Mostly Ghostly: Halloween Movies and TV.
3Here we are on the first weekend of October and many of us get into the Halloween spirit. The escapism of Halloween this year is especially tantalizing.
Are you watching any scary movies or tv shows? Maybe you stick with the classics like “The Shining” or “The Exorcist”? Maybe you’re into foreign films like “Train to Busan” or “Let the Right One In”? Perhaps you prefer the more light-hearted comedy side of things i.e “Beetlejuice” or “Rocky Horror Picture Show”?
Let’s hear your plans and suggestions!

Hocus Pocus never ceases to amuse and entertain me.
@ruouttaurmind it’s playing at Regal for $5. I might go see it tomorrow.
@RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind I might too!
@RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 Watched it last night on Disney+. A favorite. Sarah Jessica Parker cracks me up every time.

Bette Midler Says She ‘Can’t Wait to Fly Again’ as She Shares Update on Hocus Pocus Sequel
@ThunderChicken It would be excellent if this gets off the ground this time. There have been rumors in the past but things always fell apart before production commitments were made.
I watch whatever piece of crap horror movie I can find. Yesterday was Marrowbone. It was really good.
@sammydog01 There is a certain enjoyability in the crappy movies as well. Like they’re so bad they’re fun to watch.
Started watching Hannibal. Felt like a good time to start.
@RiotDemon Oh, Hannibal. So good, so weird. Still can’t believe it got three seasons on a major network.
I love the classics, Halloween, nightmare, Jason. Last night I started watching Bram strokers Dracula and did watch the original house on haunted hill. Ones that scare me but I still have to watch them are the conjuring, those ones freak the fuck out of me.
@Star2236 Yup I enjoy the psychological horrors and classic more than the super gory bloodfest style movies a lot of movies end up.
@Targaryen
One I do enjoy with the blood and gore is the collector and the collocation bc they have both the psychological aspect and the blood and gore isn’t over the top. Just saw they made a third.
@Star2236 @Targaryen I love psychological horror but quit if it gets gory. Ewww.
And Vincent Price is the best.
@sammydog01 @Targaryen
My dad watches tcm all time and last night was Friday horror movies. First was Dracula with bela Lugosi but I was doing stuff around the house, the second movie was house on haunted hill and I’ve seen the remake a bunch of times, it used to be one of those movies creeped me out. I’d never seen the original with Vincent price, for that time period it was really good. I liked Vincent Price in it a lot, I see why he got his name. It’s often fun to watch tcm with with my dad on certain things. I see original movies and I see movies before Hollywood had big bucks to blow stuff up so they had to make the stories good. I’m not advocating for tcm (it’s just bc I get stuck watching it all the time) but they really do have good movies, especially when it comes to Halloween.
@sammydog01 @Star2236 @Targaryen Vincent Price is amazing in all those mildly terrible William Castle films. My favorite is The Tingler, mostly for the scene where the Tingler gets loose in the movie theater. I’d love to see it in an actual movie theater. Sigh.
@mossygreen @Star2236 @Targaryen Theater of Blood was always my favorite. Did I tell you I went to a lecture Vincent Price gave back in the day? He said he always went to a theater to see people’s reactions. And he would find teenage girls to sit behind and lean over at the end of the movie and say did you like it in that distinctive voice. And they screamed.
@mossygreen @sammydog01 @Targaryen
That’s awesome!
WORKER BEES! HERCULES! TURKEY GREASE! AWESOME!
@mossygreen @sammydog01 @Targaryen
I’ve never seen that one, I’ll have to look for it.
@sammydog01 @Star2236 @Targaryen Vincent Price always was and will be the best!
Saw something that said Vincent Price would go to the wax museum and stand in place of his statue to scare people.
@mossygreen @Star2236 @Targaryen By the way Theater of Blood costars Diana Rigg. And is free on the Roku channel.
“Arachnophobia” usually kicks off the season for us, corresponding as it does with the increased spider activity this time of year.
Also “The Fog (1980)”.
@walarney I watched Eight-Legged Freaks just a few weeks ago or I’d probably watch it between now and Halloween.
@ThunderChicken “Ice Spiders” is also pretty entertaining.
For me, I always watch the Ghostbusters movies, the original Night of the Living Dead, and the Peanuts shorts.
Also, I always check out the 15-second Horror Movie Challenge it’s really interesting what people achieve within 15 seconds.
Watching Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow tonight.
I can’t watch Evil, because I have neither Netflix or CBS All Access (or whatever it’s called), but if you have either of those, you can and should. Watched most of the first season, got deeply disturbed at least once per episode, it’s very well-done. Created by the people who did The Good Wife and definitely know how to tell a story, it’s about paranormal investigators, one a skeptic, one a seminary student. Some things are explained and some things… aren’t. I don’t want to give too much away. Bonus if you like Michael Emerson being creepy.
Not nearly as good, but interesting, Fox’s The Exorcist series goes in some very unexpected directions. I only saw the first season, the ending was absolutely ridiculous. I liked it. My impression is that the second season was better, and it had a good cast. But I haven’t watched it yet. Again, I don’t want to give too much away.
Watching The Little Girl Who Live Down the Lane tonight. I’ve never seen it before.
@ThunderChicken That movie is… disturbing. What did you think of it?
I’m watching Little Monsters. I’m not a fan of gore in general but this movie is worth it.
I watched Dark Shadows tonight. It was the first time since it was fairly new. I really didn’t remember any of it and it was like enjoying it for the first time.
@ThunderChicken Which one? I’m on season 7 of the original series.
@sammydog01 I thought I’d replied earlier, but it’s nowhere to be seen. Anyway, it was the 2012 movie with Johnny Depp.
So here is what I watched on Netflix recently: Another Life (not finished yet), some American Horror Story (on going), Black Summer, Underworld, Betaal (on going), Stranger Things (again), #Alive, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Silent Hill, V Wars, October Faction, The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell so far.
Boyfriends watching vansing right now, it’s gonna be a horror movie weekend of what’s on tv.
Also: EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH OVER THE GARDEN WALL.
