@kdemo@RiotDemon@sammydog01 I mean it’s just a pancake around butter instead of butter on it. A bite or two might be good. Maybe if you had great butter… Why does he keep calling it grease instead of oil? Weirdo
@kdemo@RiotDemon@unksol Sure a bite or two would be good but what’s the point of frying a whole stick of butter if you drain the butter out? Maybe it’s part of the grease?
@kdemo@RiotDemon@sammydog01 I didn’t say it was efficient. Not the point of fair food and I never buy it. Maybe catch it when it drains out and butter something else? Idk lol
The whole thing is NOT dishwasher safe, just the pull out part.
Found one very similar and sometimes use it to cook 1 lb ground turkey roll that come in that plastic tube with the metal seals on each end. Clip off one seal and squeeze it out like some huge choad, season and bake.
Also good for chicken thighs. Boneless, skinless chicken breasts work, but can easily come out too dry. Nice because you can microwave a potato and have it ready while your mini-oven is working.
My wife says a friend loves her air fryer, and another friend loves her air fryer too. I am still wondering why they don’t get their own. If there was only a website that gave good deals on air fryers.
Thank you Meh, I love you! I got this thing in my 1 year anniversary box (unlike the goodwill headed crap I got from Woot). I opened the box and thought wait, what is this? I didn’t order an airfryer! Never in my wildest dreams would I expect something so useful for 5 bucks. There’s a great WSJ article on the positives of airfryers that made me finally interested in purchasing one and honestly I probably would have got a larger one, left to my own devices. So far I’ve only tried chicken in it but I can attest that it makes the best wings I’ve ever had. So, for a starter airfryer, this one works for me.
( problematic-abundantly-toad ) So I’m in for one, I guess I can retire my fry-baby now. I’ve got some Maryland style crab cakes in the freezer That I’ve been saving for a special occasion so MEH hurry it up already and send it out, The crabcakes are awaiting
@shahnm Pretty cool GIPHY‘s, I’ve tried several times to do them with my iPhone with no success. Something about having to be in portrait mode or something like that?
Got mine yesterday in time for the Gator game. Made game day wings & j-poppers, which were both acceptable. The wings were fairly crispy and the poppers were just ok. The cooking time is much less since it’s a convection oven, which is more than acceptable. The thing was really easy to clean, making my rating go up up up. All in all, the value of the thing is def worth it if you wanted an air fryer in the first place. If you didn’t, you shoulda clicked the meh button. Just saying…
Well this air fryer had been quite useful since I got it, but today as if on cue just past the warranty coverage period, it goes dead with a cloud of plastic smelling smoke in the middle of cooking my breakfast sausage patty. I checked that the sausage wasn’t burnt and finished it in the toaster oven hoping maybe the air fryer would come back to life after it cooled a bit. No such luck.
While I’m obviously disappointed in the short lifespan, I’m actually impressed by their ability to engineer the product to last just exactly long enough to run out the warranty clock. If only they could’ve put the same effort into making a dependable product. Yeah I know, the same old get off my lawn and they don’t make em like they used to crotchety old guy rant. Still… crappy unreliable product… and get off my lawn!
No more small kitchen appliances! I got no room for it. I got that pour-over coffee maker thing coming & no place for that as it is! What meh needs to sell is large garage cabinets so we got somewhere to put all our crap.
Ohhh but it fries without oil…!? Can I do egg-rolls with this? I got a recipe for vietnamese egg-rolls from a vietnamese woman I work with. She makes the BEST egg-rolls. Maybe if I get rid of that old crock-pot I can fit this thing in…
How would this work for something like egg free latkes? That’s the main thing my deep fryer gets used for (my SO is allergic to eggs and Jewish, so we make latkes twice a year)/
@mellowirishgent Air “fryers” pass air underneath as well over the top. Imagine a wire mesh that you put things on, a hot plate on the top and then a fan to move the air around pretty fast.
Oh yeah- GREAT reviews on Amaze-on: Three, 5-star reviews by “Pav Gupta,” “Viraj Patel,” and “Amal A.” Then one, 1-star by someone describing the teflon lining flaking off and ending up in your food. I’ll wait until this junk is on sale at the dollar store for $6.99…
We received a similar one in the last IRK (apparently new in box). I wish it had been the larger model; the 3.8 quart is pretty limiting on the number of chicken wings you can cook at one time. Steak fries or cottage fries also run into limits pretty fast in the smaller unit.
This thing makes great salmon filets! Again wish it was a bit larger, or we had a set of racks to put in it to cook more than one piece at a time. But the salmon comes out perfect. Best we’ve ever done at home.
"Model: EDFB-791, EDFR-792, EDFL-793. Letters stand for “eat da friggin’ beef,’ ‘eat da friggin’ roast,’ and ‘eat do friggin’ lava-cake.’ (We have no idea if any of these things can be cooked in an air fryer. We’re just goofing, okay.)”
come on…“eat do friggin lava-cake”?
firstly, do? “eat da…”
secondly, “eat da friggin lamb” maybe? I feel i should expect better made up stuff from y’all…
Air fryers? I always wondered what would happen if Michael Jordan became a monk.
Warning! Bad Dad Joke
@hchavers Warning! Redundancy Alert!
@hchavers @shahnm thank you department of redundancy department
@hchavers @shahnm This has been a Redundancy Alert! alarm.
@wonidejack Well, I liked it.
“Air fryers” are convection ovens and don’t fry food. Unless you count “oven frying”.
@craigthom I do not, thanks for asking.
These blow.
@mike808 Take it from the man who blows his posts all the time folks–he knows blow.
@mike808 @therealjrn up until this moment, I sorta figured mike808 and therealjrn were basically the same person. Clearly I’m not paying attention.
@mike808 @therealjrn @UncleVinny Ummm… no.
Apparently, you can fry air…
@shahnm No. Some marketing “genius” noticed if you create a convection oven with an increased air-flow you can call it an “Air Fryer”
@rtjhnstn @shahnm I really like my high-velocity convection oven. It’s great for crisping up things after microwaving them.
@billatq @rtjhnstn But how do you catch it in the first place??
@rtjhnstn @shahnm A wise philosopher once said, “Gotta catch 'em all”.
Will it fry butter?
Twinkies?
Snickers?
(Asking for a stoner)

@RiotDemon @sammydog01 - Honestly, I couldn’t even . . .

The last picture on the product page… shows air fried grasshoppers. How would you season these? A little chilli lime salt might be nice.
My wife says a friend loves her air fryer, and another friend loves her air fryer too. I am still wondering why they don’t get their own. If there was only a website that gave good deals on air fryers.
@hchavers how/when exactly are they using your wife’s “air fryer”? And what are they doing with it?
Thank you Meh, I love you! I got this thing in my 1 year anniversary box (unlike the goodwill headed crap I got from Woot). I opened the box and thought wait, what is this? @bigtom67 You may be disappointed if you are used to actually fried foods. These are hot ovens with circulating air.
@shahnm Pretty cool GIPHY‘s, I’ve tried several times to do them with my iPhone with no success. Something about having to be in portrait mode or something like that?
@bigtom67 @shahnm that is one ready to party road. Are we sure we aren’t supposed to lick him?
@bigtom67 @shahnm @bigtom67 @shahnm That giphy was illuminating. Turns out they’re great for decarboxylating.

KuoH
From those pictures I have no clue how that rack works with the machine…
@thewynner it sits inside the main bowl thing(?) to keep stuff off the bottom for drippage.
@RiotDemon @thewynner well and airflow. That’s the only thing that makes it an air “fryer”. It’s just a convection oven with a basket
How long does it take to cook fries for 2 people?
Is this the right size? It looks like it might be to large.
@funco49 about 15 minutes or so. Just pull the basket out and give it a shake every 5 minutes or so.
Takes a bit longer than deep frying but much healthier (as far as fries go anyway!) and much more convenient and less messy.
With a Toddler ours get used almost exclusively for dino nuggets and fries but never lets us down! It also works great for frozen taquitos.
@mOONmOON You sold me, just ordered mine. Thanks. Dan
It does look neato, but that last picture … shudder … I’ve lost my appetite.
@cfg83 why? Can you not get free-range organic gluten-free hand-fed heritage crickets to fry?

Difference between a supwrwave oven and this?
@mellowirishgent Air “fryers” pass air underneath as well over the top. Imagine a wire mesh that you put things on, a hot plate on the top and then a fan to move the air around pretty fast.
@billatq @mellowirishgent I think Ron Popeil’s oven does the same thing.
@billatq @craigthom @mellowirishgent Rons whatever does everything.

@MrNews I think you meant until it is on sale for $1 at the dollar store. Or on sale at the $6.99 store.
@mike808 I thought a dollar store sold things in the currency of dollars… as opposed to rubles.
@MrNews You must be confusing it with #MoscowMitch. A common thing these days.
Did I miss the post saying…
“I’d buy one if there was a purple one…”
@transplant
Yep. It was right after the one noting that these make really shitty margaritas.
