82Why are the meh button click stats missing from the home page? I could understand making it smaller, taking up less room, but why remove it completely? You are breaking the feedback loop for some of your most loyal customers. Click the button, check the total, enjoy a little splash of dopamine. Why have you forsaken us?

Dammit, I come to Meh, first, every single day, and I don’t want to look at my profile just to see the faces I clicked. I may not buy many items on Meh, but I make up for it over on Casemates (and then some). I quit buying stuff on Morningsave because it got boring, but I spent plenty of money there, as well.
Give me back the little faces.

As someone with an unbroken-since-day-0 streak, I’m really not on board with this change. This will end up being the thing that causes me to miss a click. Not my dad dying, not finding out about an affair, not getting blackout drunk for weeks in response, not my dogs or cat dying, not being in BFE on a forced camping trip, not even a fucking “blizzard” and ice storm that knocked out the electricity for a bit. Nope. It will be this. I hope you’re happy with yourself.
Also, while I’m complaining, not only is the forum still fucked up on mobile (one reason why I’m never here anymore) recently the main Meh page is a weird desktop/mobile hybrid that extends to the right, too. I love you guys, but ugh.

I realized I still had the home page open from before the change, and that it was a sight we’d never see again.
I am disappointed the face chart is gone! More so than I would have expected. I never noticed how much I enjoyed that little face calendar until it was taken from me!
I am loathe to ever comment on a website, but I’m making an exception. Please bring the stats back to the homepage. It’s why I visit every day, and occasionally find a good deal on something I want is a nice bonus.
I totally agree with @aswood - I don’t comment much, but that stat is an ongoing contest with my husband and I. It’s the reason we come to this page every day. Give me back my imaginary internet points damnit!
Yeah, I’ll miss that. The only way I can tell I missed a day was with the calendar. And usually I missed the day because I forgot to push the button. Meh is part of my early morning insomnia routine.

Add another vote for the totals back on the home page. They’re all the way at the bottom so they don’t really get in the way. Maybe you can make them not show up if you’re not logged in? Or a preferences thing I can select, like the forum options?

I just realized that it’s harder than hell to find/view the previous day’s deal without the calendar. Too many clicks to get somewhere that used to be so simple.

If you have a deal a day sales site, why get rid of or hide a feature that motivated people to checkout your site every day?
Going to chime in as well (this might very well be my first community post) and say this sucks. I payed for the really expensive internet on my cruise just to be able to click the button.
The wife and I both are so disappointed we can’t see the calendar anymore. Part of our nightly routine is to check meh and compare our current streaks. Don’t think I’ll be checking meh so regularly anymore…

Without the calendar, meh is just… meh!
You have just taken away a special and unique piece of meh… one that has been the reason for many community threads, goat blames, obsessions, and something that drives some people to your site every day… The calendar allowed us to admire past faces. It isn’t just the stats that matter, but the faces too.
It’s clearly popular as there has not been one comment so far in favor of this change. Heck make a poll if you need more feedback on this. You might want to think twice before throwing away a cherished tradition.
To have to temporarily enable my profile to see my stats is a PITA. To not easily have a place to click to see what was sold earlier in the month is a pain (especially since the search function isn’t all that great either - yeah I know outsourced to google - but still flawed). To not be able to see past faces in the calendar is sad. They will be missed. Please rethink this decision.
I don’t say much around here but I stop by every day. I know most days I’m not going to buy anything but I keep coming back. Why? To click buttons, to see my streak, to see the previous funny faces. I go to casemates every day too. I spend way too much money there. Every day I go to casemates I wish there was a button for me to click and see my stats. This change sucks. Eventually I won’t bother stopping by every day because you are removing the fun from a site that sells bags of instant regret.

I’ve been working up to this night for a full year, religiously swinging by every single night, clicking that Meh button, scrolling to the calendar to make sure it took, and … believe it or not, sometimes buying crap I never would have thrown money at if I weren’t coming by the site to click that button. And now, on the anniversary of my 365th straight Meh, this shitty screenshot is all I have to show for it …
The first time I came to the site, I said to myself, “Someone at Meh is a marketing genius.” The face reveal on the Meh button? The calendar? The streak? Brilliant. But now I’m left saying to myself, “Someone at Meh’s completely out of touch.”
Repercussions? My motivation to swing by the site day in and day out just evaporated. And those spontaneous purchases will evaporate too. Yes, there’s a bottom-line impact from letting web developers take over user experience. Please hand the reins back to someone who gets customers.

Of all the unnecessary things cluttering up the page, perhaps dumping the “How’d You Get Here” might have been a better idea? I know how I got here, but frankly, Snapster, I don’t give a damn how anyone else did.
Well, that was harsh, but heartfelt.
I understand why Meh needs to know the metrics of who & how, and what drives the customer to the site. I just never quite figured out why Meh thought the rest of us cared which device a stranger used to check out the daily deal.
Change can be a good thing. Then again, change for the wrong reasons can make people awfully crabby, and when there’s an invasion of crabby people…well, anything can happen.
I’ll throw my hat into the ring and say I agree with every sentiment already posted here. I was ready to screenshot my 100th click streak in a few days and now I won’t be able to…plus I really liked being able to easily click the faces to view past deals. This is a poor change, even if it was done with good intentions. Please put it back :C

There’s not even a damn option up top to see the Past Deals. Clicking the barely visible ‘Deals’ link at the bottom just gives you the forum page of deals where nothing is in order.
Wow guys, I think it’s beyond clear that you, how do we say this nicely… Royally fucked this one up. We understand it’s not our decision as customers to how the page should look but it has certainly been made clear as to how customers respond. Maybe in the future you should have a discussion with your customers about these ideas and prospective changes before just jumping feet first into a piranha laden lake.

And then other pages for previous years.
Not every feature has to be about “look what great coders we are”.
Some things can just work right in a simple way, and that’s fine.
Honor your beautiful and adorable clicky-faces! Make them obviously visible and way public!
If they are stuck away on the profile (which many have disabled anyway, for obvious privacy reasons), we will love them less and notice them less.
And perhaps care about the goofiness that is Meh a little less.
(Not to mention that it’s still tough to load some highly active profiles on mobile.)

To further echo everyone’s sentiment so far, please bring back the meh faces calendar and our streak as it was before. Meh is the first thing that pops up when I go to safari and my morning routine is to click meh face scroll down to make sure it registered, answer poll and possibly order. While I haven’t been the most active in these forums, while I wasn’t here Day 0, and while I understand sometimes companies want to move on, this is a part of meh history and tradition. Sure, I haven’t ordered every day but I’m pretty sure between meh and casemates, my “lifetime value” dollar amount and rank is pretty high. I’ve stopped visiting all the other deal-a-sites because there’s no attraction, no catch, no appeal. Likely that’s what will happen here as well. Many thanks for your further consideration for this emotional topic.

I cannot believe ANYONE, especially Dave who seems to be quite in tune to the psychology of the customer would think removing this was a good idea.

I am very disappointed in the removal of the face calendar. While I sucked at keeping a streak it was one of the motivating items that kept me coming back at midnight. Having to go to another page makes it annoying and is going to cut down on my visits.

I’m not the type to whine and curse and threaten to leave if things aren’t as I want them… However, having come from the long history of “the before”, I will hazard the guess that if you have this many upset mehtizens (especially including @shrdlu, who was quite plain on the subject), it would be best to fix your problems quickly, keep the populace happy, and see what changes can be made in the future. Plain and simple.
As someone who has a perfect daily streak of Meh faces, the Meh tracker’s removal is disappointing. While the calendar might be causing issues, having the stats on the front page is, to me, essential.

Well that was a fine how-do-you-do this morning. Why did I even click the Meh button? Why did I even load the page? Why did I even wake up?!!!

I could understand perhaps if there were a technical reason, server load, the clicky database was corrupted? The total lack of reasoning or communication is probably the thing people are finding most frustrating. For me at least it’s just as bad as the removal itself.
I keep checking to see if you put it back. I was a supporter of Woot, I was a supporter of the Kickstarter for Meh. I have been a VMP since day one. How you react to all of this customer feedback is important. Will I stop visiting meh? No. But some of the fun and magic of this place has been lost with these changes. Please bring them back.

@bleedmichigan I use android so I’m not too familiar with iPhone keyboards. If you just typed “youre”, wouldn’t it autocorrect it to “you’re”? Or at least give a suggestion as you’re typing y…o…u… and then it suggest “your” and “you’re”?
@cengland0 let’s see youre gives me options of your you’re and youre so yes it does give me the option but that also assumes that I select one instead of just continuously typing. Ultimately everyone knew what was being said it’s like typing “U” in place of you in a text.

I was just curious how the iPhone compares to Android when typing in the “youre” word. Seems it’s the same as Android so you really don’t have to click on the “123” button to get that apostrophe inserted. Glad Apple did it right.
Don’t worry about the typo, there’s bigger things to worry about and anyone that complains about the wrong usage of your/you’re or their/they’re/there, they have too much free time on their hands. Just make sure to get it right on a resume or other important documents but who cares about a meh forum.

been one to listen to your customers. I think the people have spoken since there are very few who are not unhappy with this change especially since there was no advance notice. Not only did it become a reason to visit the site daily when possible, but it also served as a way to see what you may have missed on a day you didn’t visit. Please chalk it up to a bad decision and bring it back!

Chiming in to say that I, too, miss the calendar and would rather see that visual that know how many people responded to your tweet to come here. By all means keep measuring that for your marketing team, but bring the calendar back for your customer team.

Actually forgot to mention that the most important part of removing the calendar is removing the ability to verify we successfully clicked the meh button that day. Going to our profile only gives us our streak without confirming we clicked it today. And yes that’s why I have a broken streak in between my current and longest streak - bad internet with no way to verify successful meh click. Yes our activity tells us if we clicked but when in a third world country with spotty connection, each click is precious.

@ruouttaurmind I think one of the issues is that the community has evolved into something that matters to some of the people. The meh click face in intertwined with that. It is one of the major iconic symbols of meh and was tied to tradition, entertainment, boasting rights, things that mattered in ways that some people didn’t completely realize until it was surgically removed without warning. As a result some people are bleeding. And so they are pissed off.

The meh button is my favorite feature of this site. I’m glad I can still see my streak on my profile, but it was a lot easier to visualize it with the calendar.

@dave @f00l @webender I agree, I definitely preferred seeing them on the home page. If anything, I’d much rather see my own numbers than how many people visited and clicked meh. They’re rather meaningless to me.
@dave Yes. Not being able to scroll back to previous month faces was frustrating. I did like how the hover text told you when you clicked each face and how each face linked to the deal that day.
It would be super cool to have a separate page that showed all the months in scroll-able, year-by-year calendar format so you could see exactly when your streak was broken. (with the time clicked and links to each deal page too, of course)

@dave Well darn. Now I won’t be able to easily check if I clicked the button for the day. Sometimes I forget to click on my morning visit and only notice when I visit in the afternoon. More broken streaks for me coming up.
@dave I don’t want a simplified homepage or to see everyone else’s “streak”. My general interaction with the site is visit homepage, click the button, and scroll down to see if I missed a day.
How much data is being loaded from two pages vs. one? Is minimizing clutter minimizing data transfer?

I don’t want to screenshot some bland little paragraph tucked away in some dark corner of the site. I want to screenshot that magnificent calendar, right on the home page, as the SOLE REWARD for 365 straight days of visiting your site and clicking your damn button. Incredibly disappointed.

@dave I’m a vmp member. I don’t even buy anything that postage costs more than the member fee and i don’t even buy abutting most months. Meh is part of my routine. I wake up, click my meh link, click the button, then flick the screen up so i can see all the old faces and if I’ve still got my streak going. I pay $5 a month with no benefit most months to feel like i have ownership of something. I’ve been with meh supporting you guys since the beginning. this was part of my routine. this ruins my experience. put it back. i feel betrayed. nobody gives a damn if it doesn’t work jyst how you wanted it to. it was quirky and slightly broken. like somebody just barely got it working and said ‘meh, it works.’ idon’t want a polished fine tuned site. i want to feel like 3 people threw the thing together in a weekend and it worked so they left it that way. Don’t make it into woot. If i want woot ill go back to woot. put it back. or I’ll stop giving you guys 5 bucks a month for nothing in return but a quirky daily experience.

Put the new profile update on the main page. I don’t want to look at the streak on a second page.
I wonder what drove this decision in the first place. @snapster briefly mentioned that he’d considered removing the meh button entirely, and you don’t eliminate a core feature of the site without some very good reason behind it. Could it be that MorningSave has become Mediocre’s main source of revenue, enough to where the cost of drawing a new meh button face every day could be better put towards marketing to and developing features for the MorningSave daytime TV crowd? Or maybe they’d like to or need to refocus Meh on selling things first instead of producing a community first? (Similar features like the poll and the video have also been reduced in prominence.)
If business needs dictate these changes, I’d understand. I understood and sympathized back when the videos were changed from new videos daily to new videos once every week or two. The key difference there was that Mediocre employees talked about what was going on and explained that the cost of producing the videos was too much to do it day after day, whereas with the meh calendar we’ve gotten near-complete silence.

That calendar was only purpose I woke up everyday…and now there is no meaning in my life…

@benj If I had to hazard a guess, I’d say the majority of the money they make from me is due to VMP. It’s really dumb for me to have it, being not invested in the site and not having bought much of anything in the past several months.
It’s even more consequential if you count the number of times I bought something I probably shouldn’t have because “gee, that’s cheap.”
Wasn’t there a thing where they canceled the program and then everyone was mad, and then they started it back up at $4/mo. instead of $5?

@benj @therealjrn I’m not a business person but I have a feeling that if they wanted to get rid of free shipping memberships they would stop offering new ones. Which they haven’t.
@benj @sammydog01 @therealjrn Yeah likely that have pretty good stats about number of purchases a month/VMP and adjust the price of the items they are selling accordingly to take the average number into account (and also to take into account shipping costs).

Didn’t check your profile, but the new method actually exposes you to ridicule for clicking/non-clicking since your data is in your profile. (The calendar view of your clicks is only visible to you.)
Is refraining from scrolling to the bottom for that Meh face calendar all that difficult if you don’t like what you might find there?
The calendar view is the best of both worlds since you can choose to screencapture and display it in all its graphic glory!

So let’s have some fun and as a community make our own calendar. Through the novelty of the internet, we can grab the link to the meh button and write a little code and make our own calendar then post it to the meh forum or even better the Woot forum, or someplace else for us to enjoy. Oddly enough the old links for the past deals faces still remain so lets get to work.

I guess this is Meh’s first “white night”.
The “feature” of hiding your profile from others being to see it - also means I cannot see it either. Privacy means I have access to it and can see it, and no one else does, not MEH can see it and no one else can.
I wish there was SOME kind of feedback from the powers that be to better explain the rationale.

(I’ve given up attempting to make the Meh image upload to work as expected on mobile. In this case, the second image didn’t show up the first time I uploaded it… so I uploaded it a second time… and now it shows up twice… even tho when editing the comment, there are only two total image links in the comment!?!)
