Lyft Or Uber Maneuver Or Uber Or Lyft Rift
3I bought a new phone almost two months ago, and I haven’t installed a ride sharing app yet. In the past, I have ridden with Uber and Lyft, and I’m probably going to install both apps, but I’m low on cellular data and trying to decide which app to install first. Which should I install first, and why?

I’m not pretty enough to hitchhike successfully .

I installed on the basis of who had the best coupon on the day I needed a ride. I use them rarely, generally only to or from the airport when travelling at a time inconvenient for a friend to drive me. I’d rather take a friend out for a nice thank you meal with the money.
Go somewhere with free wifi and install them both?
@medz Yes, but which service should I use to get to the free WiFi hotspot?

@eonfifty Trying to determine which app is smaller in size, but seems to vary based on the device it’s being installed on.
@medz For my Android device, Uber is ~44MB, and Lyft is ~24MB.

I preferred Uber when I used it awhile ago, because I had heard it was less expensive. I really lucked out because this young couple that lived near me would wait for fares, he driving at night, she driving in the daytime.
Nowadays though, I don’t know because I’ve heard that they hide surge pricing from the user.
All rumors, all the time, the internet. Ta da!
@therealjrn Do they both allegedly hide surge pricing, or is it just Uber that allegedly hides surge pricing?

@eonfifty Hmm, I can see I was ambiguous. So sorry. Here’s an informational video I found:
If you’re like me, and prefer reading over watching some video, here’s a website that purports to be informational as well: https://www.ridester.com/uber-vs-lyft/

Lyft is a better company IMO. Too many of their drivers have garbage cars though (Phoenix). So many rickety Altimas and Sonatas out there.
@FightingMongoos Agreed. Lyft treats their drivers marginally better (source - friends Dad drives for both). With all the Uber scandals, Lyft is my choice now. The garbage cars comment is more than Phoenix. Charlotte NC has the same problem. Maybe it’s pervasive since everyone and their dad is now driving.
I went ahead and installed Lyft based on price. I compared Uber and Lyft rates for a 44 mile trip, and Lyft was about $10 cheaper.
