@awk If you have ever been spelunking and gotten to the point in the expedition where the guide asks everyone to turn off their headlamps for a minute, you realize that true total darkness is pretty darn creepy.
Old fluorescent lights. The kind where it’s way too bright and washes out all colors. Oh the ballasts are all humming and at least one bulb is flickering randomly.
@ZeroCharisma This. Cold white light in a '50s hospital setting with white tile and white enameled cabinets and chairs and tables with chrome legs and trim. Worn and grimy. Maybe actually an asylum…
@djslack
Hopefully not within reach.
Besides, that’s more on the awesome side of the scale than scary, only beaten by a Tesla coil playing Toccata and Fugue.
@DVDBZN it is awesome now, it scared me to death when I was a child for some reason. I think I just knew electricity was dangerous, and that sound, too.
It was out of reach on their front porch. They had a whole mad scientist thing going on.
Ball Lightning - but you might have to wait a long time for that.
St. Elmo’s fire is pretty creepy, and not as rare as Ball Lightning.
Of course if you can’t wait for nature to take the initiative, Jacob’s Ladders or Tesla coils are great choices. I have a UVC-Ozone lamp that lights up a room in the sickliest death-pallor green I’ve ever seen (through UV safety goggles), but it’s probably a poor party choice. PSA - don’t look at UVC lamps unless you really want to get UV burns, possible blindness, cataracts and skin cancer).
@mehcuda67
yeah, I have a UV-C filter for my fish pond out front. It has a ‘view window’ to let you tell if it is running/lit or not, which, thankfully, will block the vast majority of the UV-C rays.
Flickering flashlight that goes out when you are down in a basement trying to turn the lights back on?
Trunk full of burning hookers or maybe some Fuckering Lights.
@yakkoTDI
“When fonts go bad…”
Radioactive glow
No light at all, just an unforgiving inhuman blackness.

A jacob’s ladder if you’re into the mad scientist thing. There was a house that had one out at Halloween when I was a child, it freaked me out.
@djslack A what?
@Kyeh

@djslack Oh, that light is cool! But yeah, I can see how it would be scary for a kid. (The video is just weird )
Bluetooth torch speakers
@stinks Feels weird they didn’t think of that one already.
Strobe light set to flash slow and random.
Or really, lightning, if nature cooperates.
It helps to have a new moon and some fog or smoke.
A will o’ the wisp, marsh light, or similar “ghost light.” It’s mostly just swamp gas combusting, but you never know…
Just give me a full moon and I will show you creepy!
A TV that you didn’t turn on. Obviously.
I’m starting to think none of you are old enough to remember Poltergeist.
@ExtraMedium the braces scene in the second one freaked me out.
Flashlight for sure

Candle light.
Tesla Coil
creepiest as in scary or creepiest as in done by creeps?
@chienfou that was gross. I was waiting for him to catch his pants on fire.
Disappointed.
@chienfou guys are amateurs.
Plasma ball or disc.
@blaineg Ok, maybe not so creepy.
@blaineg so cute!!!
/image plasma ball cat paw
Duh, it’s candle-lit candelabra. You never saw https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0038348/ this?
@AmazingChicken For some reason I read that as candle-lit chupacabra.
@blaineg Or candle-lit chupacabra, which seems more spicy. Take your pick.
Flashlight under your chin, pointed up.
A lightstick broken open and smeared on face & hands.
