Does anybody still do elaborate stuff to watch movies or whatever? Or are we all just laying in bed with our phones, waiting to accidentally drop them on our faces? Tell us about your viewing habitat!
@Cerridwyn I have been delighted by Samsung TVs for like two decades. Got the latest one last year. Absolute nightmare of Smart TV nonsense. I had to watch an ad to access audio settings.
I don’t have a proper home theater per se, but most of my powerhouse 2-channel systems are capable of having movies and games routed through them. I have a preference for 15-inch woofers and horn tweeters inside 5-way cabinets that weigh 100 pounds, rather than tiny plastic satellites.
I have a 20-year old projector w/100+ inch screen that i still prefer over my 80-ish inch OLED for watching movies. But I almost never do because of the inconvenience.
My theory is that eventually TVs will become known as “sports screens” and phones will be used for all other viewing.
I finally pulled the trigger on a 65" LG C4 OLED about a month ago, and so far I absolutely LOVE this thing! The colors, the contrast, the perfect blacks…Total Game Changer. I do have a good Sony UHD/Blu-Ray for watching movies & a good 5.1 speaker set up from ELAC (center & front surrounds) & Klipsch (sub & in-ceiling rear surrounds) powered by a pretty decent little Yamaha receiver. Definitely worth all the $$$ paid!!
@jouest I mean there are a lot of people who spend exorbitant amounts of money on such products. My “fancy” system was done over about an 8 year window, and I just added & upgraded individual pieces as I could afford them. I do have my eyes on some upgraded ELAC floor speakers ELAC Debut 2.0, but that’ll have to come next year most likely.
Darkened room [multicolor LED light strings and globes from Meh and Side Deals] a 75" diagonal TCL-Roku TV hung with the top edge 2" from the ceiling, 2 recliners facing it about 8’ away [give or take], Design Acoustics subwoofer and satellite speakers, Toshiba Dolby Surround Sound Home Theater Receiver, and 2 Polk Audio Bookshelf Speakers for rear channel sound.
We did have a 5.1 channel setup but the 5.1 DVD-player/receiver died, so I pulled out my old receiver for the current set up.
It suffices.
FYI, we’re movie buffs- so we use it a lot.
Another vote for projector and big screen. Ceiling mounted projector with output through a receiver and 5.1 speakers. Dual recliner loveseat about 8ft from the screen. Gets used a lot.
Pool house has a 54 inch wall mounted, Roku capable, smart TV for guests. Gonna get a soundbar for it when I get the cabinet below it built this summer (hopefully).
I recently upgraded my basement. It’s got a 110” projector screen, 7.2 (7.1 but two subwoofers) dolby atmos surround sound, wired in wall. My 15 year old recliner and other seats. A network rack with 14 gaming consoles all run through and hdmi switch for upscaling to 1080p. Yes, including Atari 2600. I can play Pitfall at 110” on 7.2 Mono Surround sound. Excellent.
Large samsung TV and a bose sound bar

@jouest the guys who set mine up did a really good tutorial
@Cerridwyn @jouest Samsung’s best TVs were their plasmas, particularly the last models from around 2012-2014.

@walarney I also have a pretty okay projector that never comes out. pretty reliable for Super Bowl, though!
Cell phone, occasionally dropped on my face. Once in a while an iPad, hopefully not dropped on my face. No TV in my household.

@alacercogitatus broken in recliner is an excellent choice
@alacercogitatus Atari 2600 on a 110" screen?!? LIFE IS GOOD!!!
Hmm… a 2006 TV and a 2012 cheapie one that just died. Somewhere an old VHS player as there are still a few kid videos left. Does any of that count?
@Kidsandliz
Absolutely.
