It’s very humid in Florida but our whole-house A/C unit does a good job taking all that moisture out of the house. That’s why you want a unit that is perfectly matched to the size of your house. If you get one too powerful, it will cool the house too quickly and not get enough of the humidity out.

Maybe I’m dumb but it took me a minute to replace the collection tank. Protip: tilt it towards you as you put it back into the machine, with the back in as far as it will go. Then you just tilt it back into position.
It’s been running for about 15 minutes and hasn’t collected any water yet. So that means my Frigidaire was working great (hard to tell since I have a hose going to my sump well) or the LG is just a big, loud black box

Also, does anyone else’s make a soft thumping noise occasionally? It seems like it’s doing it when the compressor kicks on. Otherwise, unit seems to work pretty well.
I contacted CS about the noise. They said it was “pretty normal for these things”. It’s the first one I’ve had in 15 years that made this kind of sound. Anyone hearing or not hearing this?
Not sure when, but that thumping I didn’t like is no longer happening. Assuming the thing is still working (and I think it is), I’m pretty happy with this unit now.

My gold star one I run year round 24x7 after 8 years died. Well it runs but is super loud, grinds a lot and I missing a wheel. Not sure how that happened. This came along at a good time.

Anyone can be a refurber, wipe the dust off and sell it! Reconditioned is when the product has been, checked for proper function, repaired, cleaned and then sold.
Among the worst offenders is when “refurbished” gets slapped on hard drives from data centers. No – there’s nothing refurbished about them other than brushing off some dust or peeling off a label or something. They’re simply used (up) hard drives with 25+k hours on them.
@narfcake Perhaps… tho I’ll say that the used up hard drives I’ve taken from work have all worked fine and I haven’t yet needed to use any of the extra ones I took as spares.
We’re about to retire another SAN and I may swap the 1TB drives I have at home with a bunch of 2TB ones (all enterprise class, of course).
@baqui63 You probably cared about the handling of them, though. I can’t imagine those “refurbished” drives were cared for as much along the way since the main intention was that they’re decommissioned, whether electronically (erasing) or physically.
@Zecty I have a different dehumidifier (not sure of brand as not home… got it a few years ago). The switch on it locked up last month and it ran for (I estimate) ten days straight before I noticed it was constantly on and the basement was overly dry. Whacking the switch seems to have fixed it, but not the extra ~$100 I had to pay Con Ed. (At 1.4KW per hour, it is the most power hungry thing in my entire place.)
I’m in the process of upgrading my smart home system from X-10 to Z-Wave, so I got a Z-Wave humidity sensor and an appliance switch for the dehumidifier and now it is controlled by the external stuff and unable to go rouge again.
A similar thing might work for yours, though you could also just run it on a timer.
@james2lyons and I are considering buying two or three of these for our condo, to dry out the common basement areas (we’re on the condo board).
This is one of the best products i’ve purchased. I use it in NY in my basement and it definitely mitigates some of that basement “smell” and definitely does a great job with the moisture. Really awesome purchase!

Life is NOT good with LG. Everyone I know that has an LG product, from refrigerator, tvs, phones, to humidifiers and beyond. EVERYONE HAS HAD ISSUES.

I have one of these from Home Depot and the fan always runs, even when not dehumidifying. I love it. But, I do wish the fan would cut off sometimes.
