Let's turn doodles into landscapes with AI!
11Nvidia released this fun little thing that uses GauGAN to take your crappy doodle and turn it into a “realistic” landscape through “deep learning networks” and “artificial intelligence” and “math”
http://nvidia-research-mingyuliu.com/gaugan
So this ugly garbage:
turns into this lovely hidden beach retreat:
You can turn a bunch of brown blocks…
…into stonehenge:
Or try to recreate “Bliss” from Windows XP:
Life is a highway
lol now it’s a river
It’s pretty straightforward, materials and tools are on the left, click the center arrow to generate, and click the photos below the canvas to change the style.

Hello and welcome to Butt Butte Waterfall National Park!
@Moose Looks like the Grand Tetons or, as our tour guide in the '80s called it, Dolly Parton National Monument.
@narfcake cat above
Well that’s kind of scary.
@cinoclav wtf!!!
@cinoclav @tinamarie1974 Hey! It’s the evil overlord I.R.K.!
@cinoclav @therealjrn oohhhh mehbe…hahaha
@cinoclav
@DennisG2014 Aww, that’s cute. You gave me a Kiss.
Kind of a cool abstract from an unmitigated ugly mess
Today is National Lighthouse Day.
@therealjrn Nice one…wink, wink
@ybmuG I was AMAZED at how well it turned out!
Now millions of aspiring graphic artists will be out of jobs!
We need those GPUs to mine cryptocurrencies, not toss starving commercial landscape artists out on the streets, homeless and jobless!
/giphy oh, the humanity!
@gregormehndel Nuked it… eh?
Turns out you can make designs in Photoshop and upload them, provided you use the correct colors.
@Moose Hotel and corporate office management companies around the globe thank you for enabling even crappier hotel and corporate wall “art”.
Thanks, nVidia!
I’m not sure mine worked. Maybe it was because I did it on my phone…

@ybmuG Hm, that damn scapegoat gets into everything!
@nolrak is the one sending 30-50 feral hogs into your bed at night.
@nolrak @cinoclav @ybmuG is that a pic of our absentee goat?
@cinoclav @nolrak @tinamarie1974 There is a resemblance
@nolrak @tinamarie1974 @ybmuG Who? We have a goat this month?
@cinoclav @nolrak @ybmuG somebody said some guy named @nolrak, but I haven’t seen him. I don’t know?
/giphy confused woman
@cinoclav @nolrak @tinamarie1974 Let me check the bar… Wait…whaaaa?
Oh! Never mind, he’s just hiding…
@cinoclav @ybmuG so was the bar too high? Maybe @nolrak got scared when he heard how big those shoes were…
@cinoclav @nolrak @tinamarie1974
/image big shoes
@cinoclav @nolrak @ybmuG hahahaha, nice!!
@cinoclav @nolrak @tinamarie1974
@cinoclav @nolrak @ybmuG aaawwww
I hoped this would be a little cooler, but still turned out neat.
(it’s earth)
@Moose pretty cool. I’m trying to figure out how you did it. I don’t think you re-drew each frame because some lines stay pretty static as they move across.
@medz I found this gif:
exported each frame to their own png, and set up a macro to change the mode to Indexed color with only four colors which are then changed to the correct color codes (water, snow, rock, and sky). Then I uploaded/rendered each frame on the website one at a time.
edit: ha just realized I got the frame order backwards somewhere along the line
It’s a mountain troll!
I had to cheat and make the face out of snow
Earth: New and Improved
@Moose I like the first one better.
@Moose @therealjrn I agree. What a shameful waste of time.
/giphy wink
That’s an interesting doodle! But let’s turn it into a beautiful landscape!
Geeze, perverted interface ruined my picture!
