I have a few birdhouses and just found out that one is inhabited. Anyone else want to post one here, go ahead.
(And, yeah, no prizes for the correct answer.)
My husband wants to cut that tree down because it bends way over at the top. But I put that bluebird house on it last year. I checked inside and there was a fluffly little nest and this giant… SQUIRREL! A flying squirrel. I hope he comes back. We scared each other.
Thanks for playing everyone! If I find something in one of my other bird houses other than ants I’ll post again.
@sammydog01@therealjrn Or something that flies. I have 4 Bluebird houses around my house. I just checked 3 of them this weekend: one is completely empty; one has a wasp nest, and the inhabitants were very clear about keeping possession; and one has a nest with 4 Bluebird eggs. I’ve had other birds, mice, ants, bees, beetles, and a family of chipmunks take possession of one or another of them in the past. Opening one is always an adventure.
@rockblossom@therealjrn One of mine has ants crawling out the bottom and I’m afraid to check it. Congrats on the bluebird eggs! My neighbor has bluebirds at their mailbox and they eat at my feeder. And they eat my baby black swallowtail caterpillars. Ah well, the circle of life.
@sammydog01 martins? My son and I built a very similar birdhouse last year and we’ve got Purple Martins in ours. No clue if you have those where you live or not
@sammydog01 I don’t. We built it with screws, so the only way to look inside is the take the top off – I won’t do that until this fall when they all leave for the winter

@Ignorant So close!

@sammydog01 I am sooo excited. I want to thank the academy and my parents and every teacher I ever had and…
Please direct deposit my winnings. I am leaving for my private island that I am purchasing with the first installment of my prize.
Pictures or are they too skittish?
@speediedelivery They’re nocturnal and I’m afraid if I open the box it will never come back.
SNAKES
@Moose NO (God I hope not.)
Well, a Nest would be a surprise.
@rockblossom There is a nest in there but it looks different.
@therealjrn wants a hint- look at his answers. They’re wrong.
@sammydog01
@Barney @sammydog01 That was just MEAN!
@sammydog01 @therealjrn But it made me giggle.
What is in this birdhouse?
@sammydog01 A BIRD?
@therealjrn More specific please.
@sammydog01 Bluebird eggs.
@rockblossom @sammydog01 A BIRD THAT FLIES?
@rockblossom Good guess, it’s a bluebird house. But no.
@therealjrn You’re getting closer to a real guess.

@sammydog01
Really nice trees you got there.
@f00l I know you didn’t mean it this way but I mentally followed that up with “be a real shame if somethin’ was to happen to 'em…”
@djslack @f00l No, not my trees! Take a kid instead!
@djslack
/giphy “oh no, Mr Bill”
@djslack
That giphy is not relevant but I must leave it as it.
@djslack @f00l It’s relevant to Mr. Bill.
@Barney @djslack
'tis true, 'tis pity.
@sammydog01 looks like a good place for a bat to live!!
@mikibell Not a bat. I like bats.
@sammydog01 Looks like an owl nesting box or a squirrel nesting box.
@lseeber It’s actually a bluebird house- the hole is 1-1/2 inches.
@sammydog01 martins? My son and I built a very similar birdhouse last year and we’ve got Purple Martins in ours. No clue if you have those where you live or not
EDIT: I see someone else already got it.
/giphy i suck at life
@capguncowboy Nice! Do you have any photos? I don’t think we have enough open space for martins.
@sammydog01 I don’t. We built it with screws, so the only way to look inside is the take the top off – I won’t do that until this fall when they all leave for the winter
@sammydog01 Gotcha… hard to tell from here.
@lseeber I should have put a banana up there for scale.
@sammydog01 No biggie
A Yellow Bellied Sap Sucker.
@Barney Nope
Hornets. Always hornets.
/image hornets
Or wasps…sometimes always wasps…
@medz There was a wasp nest hanging from the ceiling but they were long gone.
/image Carolina wren
@Trillian I love those guys! But no.
Bats…or Robins??
@llangley Nope
Oriole? Hummingbird? Mockingjay? Phoenix?
Have we established that it is actually a bird of some sort?
@DennisG2014 Nope.
/giphy oprah bees
Cardinals?
/image cardinal
@f00l That would be surprising.
@f00l Nope
/image blue jay
@f00l No

@Trillian Nope.
Is it a moose?
@therealjrn
