Hosted by actor and producer Will Arnett and based on the hit British reality-competition series of the same name, LEGO MASTERS brings imagination, design and creativity to life when teams of LEGO enthusiasts go head-to-head, with infinite possibilities and an unlimited supply of LEGO bricks. Teams of two will compete against each other in ambitious brick-building challenges to be crowned the country’s most talented amateur LEGO builders. In each episode, Arnett, alongside expert judges and special guests, will encourage the builders, introduce incredible challenges and put their creations to the test. The competing pairs who impress the judges the most will progress to the next round, until the finale, during which the top teams will face off for a cash prize, the ultimate LEGO trophy and the grand title of LEGO MASTERS.

I am as a big of fan of Lego as anyone and was looking forward to this series, but I found the first episode pretty disappointing. The build-up didn’t really make for compelling television, and when we finally got to the finished projects, I felt a little short-changed. What we saw of the finished creations themselves looked awesome, but we didn’t get a really extended look at them. Airtime that could have been spent examining the build in detail was supplanted by mini-fig animation.
I will give it another chance, but I think I will find myself recording it and fast-forwarding to the end to see the finished builds.

@PooltoyWolf I saw that on the commercial. No way Jose, that is just mean!
@tinamarie1974 I’m sure it boosts ratings, but I wouldn’t want to wreck someone else’s creation. The same goes for those car racing shows where the loser has to hand over their car to the winner!
@PooltoyWolf Agree. This is a little extreme, but I can remember being a kid and not wanting to eat my chocolate easter bunny because it was too pretty!
@tinamarie1974 My motivation there was that it would spoil if I didn’t! Haha

@PooltoyWolf @tinamarie1974 there used to be a kid show called Destroy Build Destroy.
The adult hosts/experts would have the teens help take apart stuff (we’re talking dune buggy sized or larger stuff), then the teens in 2 teams (I think 4 each) would compete to make something. Then a demo expert would wire up the losing team’s thing and the winning team got to push the trigger, both teams cheering.
It’s like @miko1 said: the thing isn’t going to be saved anyway (probably not the winning thing either), why not have fun with it.

Dissembled or disassembled with extreme prejudice, what’s the difference. It’s not like they were going to take them home anyway. I just hope they don’t do the staged “accidents” like you see in the cooking show battles.

I wonder what will be built. Years ago when I lived in the Netherlands I went to a lego park. OMG what had been done there was amazing!!! Stuff was 4-5’ high, tons and tons of buildings… At the time I had never seen anything like that in my life. Wouldn’t even want to think how long it took to build that lego city. I’d almost hate to see something as amazing as that be smashed if the “other one” was just marginally better.
@Kidsandliz They say that Minecraft is Lego on your computer… but Lego can be a little like Minecraft in real life, just with some limitations imposed by physics

See, that right there is a bit of a disappointment. Based on all the characters he’s best known for, I’m sad that it’s not “Will Arnett will persistently taunt the builders with puerile insults.” “Lego? More like LegOH MY GOD WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?”

@aetris @tinamarie1974 These are not pics from from last night’s show. The logo on the first one indicates it is from the Australian version and the third picture has two people not on the US show.
FWIW, they had 15 hours in last nights episode. They had some pretty big builds, but these pictures seem to be of a more complex degree than those in US episode 1.

Oh my, did I miss the premiere of this show, when does it air? Two days ago I was headed to schedule it to record and I got sidetracked, I even forgot what I was going to record. I know, a real blonde moment! Ha ha ha
It looks like a super cool show, I just love my reality tv and any kind of artsy stuff is a bonus!

Nothing makes you feel like a winner than being able to say, “At least my shit didn’t get all jacked up!”
I’ve been watching the British version - it’ll be interesting to see how it compares. The most intriguing part is having contestants that are adult structural engineers competing against contestants that are a couple of 9-year-olds
@dave sounds like the “do you know more than a 4th grader” show in that respect.

It definitely won’t beat James May’s functional LEGO house, but this does look cool.

I didn’t care for the host to much either, he was way to interested in being top nut and taking the glory for himself. Now that i’m hearing he’s a pretty popular guy somewhere maybe that explains why…
