Beer is best. IPAs, Stouts, Porters, Lagers, Hefes, Ales, whatever EXCEPT “Mass-produced” beer, sour beer or fruity flavored beer.
I do enjoy a good wine occasionally, if my wife buys one. It’s gotta be a pretty high quality wine, red or white.
A nice Highland Single Malt Scotch is good too…
@daveinwarsh@rtjhnstn yep, that!! My brother “won” the right to “buy” a barrel (don’t ask, it’s a really convoluted process that I still don’t fully understand) but it is awesome stuff…
I work at a bottle shop with over 800 different beers. I’m pretty sure I can find most who enjoy alcohol of any kind a beer that they will enjoy. We also have a lot of awesome cider, some mead, a few surprisingly decent gluten free beers… And some wine… Wine is too expensive and not diverse enough (I know, I know… Varietals and terroirs and blah blah blah) for me to really get into, but I’m getting there.
@compunaut I wanna say yes. I know we have at least one variety of Gouden Carolus; I don’t see why we wouldn’t have the Classic. I’m not at work till Monday so I can’t say for sure. There was a Belgian specific bottle shop a few blocks away that closed recently. Our Belgian section got suspiciously low for a bit but it was a good excuse to beef up the selection. I’m stoked we just got Trappistes Rochefort 10 in yesterday.
it’s not that i never have or never will drink wine or beer, but i’m most likely to pass if those are the only options. if it’s an after party and the booze has run out and i don’t want to go home i’d go white wine before anything else, unless it’s reisling.
if we’re eating at a nice pub i’ll order something belgian off the beer menu, but switch to water or whiskey after one.
mexican restaurant? margarita on the rocks or paloma.
bar/club? vodka soda. (most common drinking scenario for me.)
at home? tap water with ice.
about the only time i really drink beer is if i’m at a concert because it’s the least insanely expensive option, it’s cold, it won’t easily spill (the places we go give cans), and you can grab two at a time so you don’t have to miss any of the set. and we drank enough liquor before the show to where it doesn’t taste as horrible.
(eta: a concert = big usually outdoor venue, tailgating, no booze available… show = bar/club/basement, plenty of booze available or byob, see above.)
Never could get the taste for wine. I cook with it all the time, but that’s about as far as my consumption goes. And I don’t like either with a meal - somehow all I end up tasting is the alcohol.
uhh… still dogs!
Beer = gross
@Darrell2 Wine = gross
@Darrell2 @TheCO2 Twelve dozen eggs = gross
Both. And all the other stuff too.
Except wine coolers. Never those.
@shahnm or Zima
Everything. I don’t care. I will drink it. From Whiskey to Peppermint Schnapps to Vodka to Mead to beer. Everything except IPAs.
Pina coladas.
I feel that because I’ve already stated other places that I don’t drink and don’t care that I should not post the same thing again…
And then I went ahead and did it anyway, didn’t I?
I’m with Benj… still cats OR dogs.
@lseeber Yup - CATS.
Vodka

@daveinwarsh or a good single barrel bourbon

@daveinwarsh @llangley i prefer it’s cousin.
Long Islands
Mead
As a wine snub, I can’t say until you tell me the vintage and its year. Even beer is better than bad wine.
Wine if it’s not sweet, hard liquor if it’s not gin, and beer if it’s not IPAs (can’t wait until that ‘fad’ runs its course!)

@Oneroundrobb
Didn’t think there could be anything worse than an IPA… now I know I was wrong!

Gah, what’s with all the IPA hate?!

@PHRoG Too many hops. Tastes like you’re chewing the damned flower
@PHRoG friggin LOVE that logo, though!
Send me a starter kit for both and I’ll find out.
love most beers. small pour if it’s a sour. Belgians tend to make my stomach bloaty. any red wine. any liquor but vodka

@dannybeans Drink better wine.
Don’t drink.
