@Felton10@user28615295 Kittens (and kitten-attitude adult cats) will pull either type down off the roll, and then shred the pullings and scatter them out into the hall. The number of plies is irrelevant. Really dedicated kittens will do it with a roll of paper towels.
@unksol@user28615295 because of Ladybird, my frequent saying is “we can’t have nice things”. I have to keep the bathroom doors shut so the toilet paper isn’t destroyed.
This year’s home improvement was replacing four mini blinds with custom vertical blinds since she destroyed the mini blinds.
She’s trying to break the ceramic cat drinking fountain I picked up on SideDeal but yet so far unsuccessful. I should have looked at the reviews before buying this. the top doesn’t sit flush to the base so it sounds like she is rattling dishes. I might try to figure out some sort of gasket to make it more quiet.
@ironcheftoni@user28615295 I’m sure they are worse than kids in that specific aspect. You can teach a kid. You can only prevent a cat and YOU have to learn at each new opportunity you accidentally give them
@ironcheftoni after several pet fountains my current preference is the stainless steel. Had a couple drinkwell platinums that are plastic .A ceramic pioneer pet.
This one in particular has been by far the least problematic. I’m sure there are others. The first two really clogged up quick and were messy. Granted multi cat situation. Multiple water options
@Kidsandliz@user28615295 mmm. Good point. it’s so easy to subconsciously assume peoples lives/experiences/conditions relate to your own…
Causes lots of problems in general.
The bathroom I keep them out of is just a toilet and sink. “Guest” 1/2;bathroom so easy to shutoff. But not necessarily normal. Especially in high cost areas/cities
The cats are a disaster elsewhere/everywhere. Def dirt boxes in a bathroom.
We only had 1 bathroom for 7 people as kids. And the door was never shut if you weren’t in there. Pretty sure a litter box would not have actually fit in there.
May have something to do with why we only got hamster’s. I want to say one very well behaved kitten like my mom has now may have been ok… But in retrospect there is no way with 5 kids if would not have been climbing shelves and breaking shit. Kids just don’t get it at that age
@Kidsandliz@Kyeh@user28615295 a significant number of small active children would probably encourage a cat to seek heights above its normal frequency… Had KitKat. a single cat. That will get into a little trouble. But mostly wants to hang with you . Not panic climb
And having multiple ones some will rocket up a fragile shelf. Destroying everything… Yea now that I’m reflecting on it a cat would have been a disaster in that house.
Hamsters were fine. We weren’t even supposed to get those but Mom kinda went behind his back a little and he ended up liking them. Even on a few escape attempts… So…
We weren’t that bad. Some crashing legos into the wall. Shooting nerf arrows at a rotary light switch to see if we could turn it off… That we got in a lot of trouble for.
Brand new fan in the window been there multiple times. Been there all day. I go to mow and take a shower. Poor fan is whimpering on the floor. Go to put it back. Completely wobbles then starts clattering.
Someone had to have tried to climb it and dropped out hard enough to brake a fan blade.
I feel justified in the calling them all bastards as they all are or sons of bastards.
Guess I have an ac motor for the parts bin…
Actually. I wonder if I could mount it to the one they destroyed the motor on…
I’ve seen those but I can’t get over how thin and rough I imagine the paper to be! I’ve never seen a large roll like that anywhere with the quality of paper I’d like to use every day in my home.
Please tell us about the quality @Felton10, is it “Oh so soft”, or “sandpaper rough”…?
@Kidsandliz
Yeah that’s the only place that I’ve ever seen them in person and I’ve never seen (or used) any that I’d even consider using at home.
It wasn’t until recently that I even saw those huge rolls available for home use.
@Lynnerizer I’ve noticed the university medical center went from 2 ply decent ones that I thought were OK to one ply cheap crap. What I think they forgot to factor in that far more toilet paper will be used with the cheap stuff so in the end I bet the cost averages out.
@Kidsandliz
Another possible outcome is that people will use whatever paper towels are available to make up for the thin one ply, then throwing them in the toilet potentially causing expensive plumbing issues.
I think most people (the public) unfortunately, really don’t care about that kind of thing when it’s not THEIR house!
@Lynnerizer IMLE, the ones I encounter in public restrooms are generally nonabrasive. Sometimes “soft to the touch” does NOT mean “gentle on tender bits”. The worst, of course, is “shreds at the first hint of moisture, and leaves shards everywhere.”
@Lynnerizer@werehatrack I have always found the “soft”/multi ply ones to be more problematic as far as those issues. I prefer Scott’s single ply. It’s not that hard to choose the number required.
Are the charmin users using one three ply sheet every time? Just saying
Amazed the bidet people aren’t in here shitting on us yet lol
@unksol@werehatrack
I never cared for Charmin, I don’t remember what ply it was that I tried but it was way too cushy for me. Pretty sure Scott’s, Northern, and the Angel Soft that I prefer are all very similar. If for some reason I couldn’t get Angel Soft I’d be fine with either of the ones I just mentioned.
Yeah I’m surprised the bidet users aren’t here yet too. I’ve always wanted to try a bidet but I haven’t yet taken the plunge! When and IF I do I think I’d have to go with the heated version, don’t think I’m ready for the cold plunge!
@Lynnerizer@unksol@werehatrack There are aftermarket bidets installed in the two bathrooms (out of four) that I use most often. Game changer for me but my wife is not a fan.
(As we are on a private septic system, I figure any little bit helps.)
@Lynnerizer–I had the same concerns about cold water, but what @macromeh said was absolutely true for me too. First, the water is coming from the tank so it’s room temperature, and even if it gets cooler, it’s never been icy. And it really doesn’t feel bad at all. I was surprised but pleased!
(And you can get heated ones, if you’re willing to pay more.)
@Kyeh@Lynnerizer@macromeh Don’t know what you were going to whisper but you either have to drip dry or use toilet paper. There are some that will blow you dry.
@narfcake as far as I know the commercial dispensers either have a much larger hub to spin those jumbo rolls or they use smaller rollers at the bottom to keep those jumbo rolls spinning.
@rcwbbb They sell them on ebay for starters. I use the Georgia Pacific brand - BUT - on amazon the cheap ones are knock offs using pirated photos of the brand name so beware. The knock offs suck. I am guessing that maybe Sam’s Club and the like would sell this stuff too.
@rcwbbb They seems to be everywhere-bought mine on Amazon when they had $ 10 off-starter pack came with stand and cost me 19.99 for stand and 2 rolls. Extra rolls are 29.99 for 3. Looking for the cheaper.
@mycya4me@pakopako I am wondering what the cleaning people thought when the saw it today-maybe that I had stomach issues big time. It does look impressive.
Needs to come with a warning label for “CAUTION: May become a very popular cat toy while you aren’t watching.”
It looks a bit like a modern art sculpture.
@Kyeh
Keep your kitty amused for hours!
@user28615295 I think only one-ply would do that.
@Felton10 @user28615295 Kittens (and kitten-attitude adult cats) will pull either type down off the roll, and then shred the pullings and scatter them out into the hall. The number of plies is irrelevant. Really dedicated kittens will do it with a roll of paper towels.
We’ve had lots of cats and kittens.
@user28615295 fascinating fact. Your bathroom probably has a door? And it closes? Lol
The amount of shit these cats has ruined. I left a box to close to a basement wall and one was going over the wall
Left a ladder to close and had to chase three out. Found another on top of the wall
@unksol @user28615295 because of Ladybird, my frequent saying is “we can’t have nice things”. I have to keep the bathroom doors shut so the toilet paper isn’t destroyed.

@unksol @user28615295 cat dirt boxes are in the bathroom so can’t shut the door.

@Kidsandliz @unksol @user28615295
The cats doing that, right? At first I thought you meant the kids & was shocked - “what a wild bunch you were!”
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @user28615295 a significant number of small active children would probably encourage a cat to seek heights above its normal frequency… Had KitKat. a single cat. That will get into a little trouble. But mostly wants to hang with you . Not panic climb

It looks like is belongs in the Deli section. Is it available in Brie or Parmesan flavors?
I’ve seen those but I can’t get over how thin and rough I imagine the paper to be! I’ve never seen a large roll like that anywhere with the quality of paper I’d like to use every day in my home.
Please tell us about the quality @Felton10, is it “Oh so soft”, or “sandpaper rough”…?

@Lynnerizer In many bathrooms in clinics, etc, use these big rolls. Some are “normal” decent TP and some are not.
@Kidsandliz

Yeah that’s the only place that I’ve ever seen them in person and I’ve never seen (or used) any that I’d even consider using at home.
It wasn’t until recently that I even saw those huge rolls available for home use.
@Kidsandliz @Lynnerizer
yep. I’ll stick with my Sam’s club stuff TYVM.
@chienfou @Kidsandliz
Yup, Angel Soft does it for us!

@Lynnerizer I’ve noticed the university medical center went from 2 ply decent ones that I thought were OK to one ply cheap crap. What I think they forgot to factor in that far more toilet paper will be used with the cheap stuff so in the end I bet the cost averages out.

I think most people (the public) unfortunately, really don’t care about that kind of thing when it’s not THEIR house!
@Kidsandliz @Lynnerizer Its Charmin-the same quality that comes in the small rolls-ultra soft.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz
Oh wow that’s amazing!

@Lynnerizer @unksol @werehatrack
)
Nah (and I actually find it quite refreshing.

This may sound like a silly question but do you have to… nevermind, maybe I’ll whisper my question instead. 🫣 Lol
@Kyeh @Lynnerizer @macromeh Don’t know what you were going to whisper but you either have to drip dry or use toilet paper. There are some that will blow you dry.
@Kidsandliz @Lynnerizer @macromeh Yeah, we had a discussion.
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @macromeh
Lol
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @macromeh
Oh wow, a blow dry… that’s pretty bougie! I’m liking the sound of it more and more!
One of my bathrooms was switched over to the commercial rolls back in 2019. Two ply at least makes it acceptable.
In 2020, the other bathroom switched over too. Haven’t done the math, but it’s definitely much more cost effective than “regular” rolls.
@narfcake as far as I know the commercial dispensers either have a much larger hub to spin those jumbo rolls or they use smaller rollers at the bottom to keep those jumbo rolls spinning.
@pakopako Scott coreless rolls have a small inner diameter. Got to keep it proprietary, y’know.
/image Scott coreless JRT

I use the more common type with a 3 inch core, though.
/image Marathon 2-ply JRT

@narfcake @pakopako Georgia Pacific has those small cores like these photos as well.
@narfcake @pakopako is that Scott’s 100000 vs my normal scotts 1000.
I thought that was an art exhibit
@kittykat9180 It looks better than some the so-called art I’ve seen!
@kittykat9180 @Kyeh

@chienfou @kittykat9180
YES.
@chienfou @Kyeh
That’s exactly what came to mind.
Didn’t someone recently sell “invisible art?”
@chienfou @kittykat9180 Probably. And then there’s those idiotic NFTs.
@chienfou @kittykat9180 @Kyeh
Well, there was that artwork by the overhyped vandal Banksy that shredded itself just after being bought…

Where can I get one?
The gignormous roll of toilet paper, that us?
@rcwbbb They sell them on ebay for starters. I use the Georgia Pacific brand - BUT - on amazon the cheap ones are knock offs using pirated photos of the brand name so beware. The knock offs suck. I am guessing that maybe Sam’s Club and the like would sell this stuff too.

@rcwbbb Sam’s Club used to have them, and Ace Mart Restaurant Supply, and just about anywhere that carries janitorial supplies. Dunno about Costco.

One aspect with other jumbo rolls is that they may not be perforated. The ones I buy definitely aren’t.
… How does that even spin under that weight?
@pakopako Let you know when I first use it. Too busy admiring it. LOL.
@pakopako Put it in the main bathroom in the hall this morning. Fits perfectly. Spins fine and easy to get one of more squares.
@Felton10 @pakopako hehehe
@mycya4me @pakopako I am wondering what the cleaning people thought when the saw it today-maybe that I had stomach issues big time. It does look impressive.
