Today’s ship is providence. Currently the state talk ship of Rhode island. It has been sold and is moving to Virginia. It is a replica of John Paul Jones first command
…state tall ship… Edit window got you. How lovely. What is RI going to have as their ship now? Why did VA buy her?
It’s currently the stated talk ship of Meh!
Let me know when we get to the Below Deck yachts. And crew.
@OldCatLady va did not buy her some org in alexandria va did. She was damaged badly when she fell over in a storm a year or so ago on the hard.
@CaptAmehrican Hope they are planning to fix her rather than use her as a dock “museum”.
@CaptAmehrican …on the hard what? rocks?
Does it have a motor? All that sailing seems complicated.
@daveinwarsh found this https://wtop.com/alexandria/2018/01/rhode-islands-official-tall-ship-is-moving-to-virginia/ and here is a picture of the catastrophe http://www.newportri.com/newportdailynews/news/local_state/repairs-to-tall-ship-providence-finally-get-underway/article_88c01800-3fa1-56de-b897-0d49bcf5813d.html
@Kidsandliz I’m glad they repaired it! (it still needs a motor).
@daveinwarsh oh sorry on the hard is nautical lingo that means when a boat is on land say for winter.
@daveinwarsh - oars are less complicated than a motor.
@aetris Umm those look more like paddles than oars… No oar lock for starters. And they are using them like you use paddles…
@Kidsandliz - Paddles are even less complicated than oars!
I was originally going to use a trireme picture, but got distracted by the dragon boats. Meh!
@Kidsandliz Okay, thanks. I feel better about the sale now. However, it sounds like RI still needs an official tall ship.
