@remo28 @sammydog01 my artist asked but more in a conversation starting way than a test I needed to pass before she would proceed way. I told her that it was about science, experimentation, failure, imperfection, and also a symbol related to a community I’m part of. So I guess I did explain, but it didn’t feel like I was being tested.

I did omit that it was for a lifetime supply of mystery boxes. That part just seemed weird to explain.

I bet they hear some meaningful stories that way. And also maybe their share of “I lost a bet” as well.

So I already had the pirate fish. I just added meh to it with some speech bubbles. The wife of the tattoo artist was more interested in the meaning of the pirate fish (flying spaghetti monster reference) that I never said what the meh was about. It’s got the fake skin stuff covering it now. It will look cleaner once that comes off.

@thumperchick I already bought an irk this morning. So I don’t expect anything to change. I just wanted to make sure I shared the pic before the cut off closes. Since I saw the irk for sale I figured I’d try just in case something happened and I didn’t end up getting the tattoo tonight.

@omegamonkey It would probably be a digital newspaper. I don’t know many people that get an actual paper anymore.

My grandfather got his the original way

He was in the Navy he was in the South Pacific.

That was pre WWI. Spanish American war

He ran away from home and lied about his age in order to get into the Navy I think it was 10 I know he wasn’t old enough to graduate from elementary school

I guess they weren’t too worried about background checks

He did have cool stories but he was quite old when I was just young

And he lived at some distance so I didn’t get to hear a lot of it and I was so young I didn’t really appreciate it

I wish I had not been stuck in my kid brain and it had the wisdom to appreciate how rare and wonderful those firsthand stories are

Instead I think I just thought of them as something from the past

@Stumpy91 Get a tat of Irk, the Mediocre Flask, or “meh”, post a picture with proof of the date during Mehrathons, and you’re granted an IRK.

Hell, I was just in the hospital with a collapsed lung in February. I can’t be in close quarters with other humanoids until I’m fully vaccinated. Can I catch a break? Pretty please?

The ink for irks thing started on their birthday as sort of a joke. And when people actually got tattoos they made it a thing with a deadline. And a handful of people got tattoos.

Then for their next birthday (last July) they reopened it with a deadline. A few more people got tattoos.

Then you started begging month after month to get a tattoo and they finally said go ahead. With a deadline.

And your reponse was I can’t do it now.

So maybe wait until you can actually get a tattoo and then ask? Or wait until their birthday in July and see what happens?

@er1c @f00l @sammydog01 I was there when they first opened it on their 4th birthday. I couldn’t do it then because we were moving and I was broke. The next time it was open, none of the tattoo shops were open where I lived because of the pandemic. This time, I said I could do it once I was vaccinated, and I missed that there was a set deadline already. I could have gotten a tat in a couple of weeks. So what the fuck ever. I don’t need you lecturing me.

Also, is it ok to get the tattoo on my butt? Obviously won’t show my butt crack on proof photos… But will meh accept butt cheek photos? I just think it would be funny to be able to say I get stuff sent to me in exchange for posting pictures of my butt online.

@sammydog01 Why on earth are you dumping on @Pony? She has made clear all along what is going on with her and her constraints. Waiting to be vaccinated and then waiting the two weeks after the second shot before doing anything risky makes a heck of a lot of sense. Risking getting covid over a tattoo does not. Dumping on her because of that makes even less sense.
