Dang, everybody! You gave me a good chuckle, mainly because I read those all at the same time, so I had this vision of everyone sitting around the campfire, recounting the stories of goatdom gone by. Each one telling the story of why they were chosen:

“I got goated for farting in class.”
“I got goated for wearing blue on Friday.”
“I got goated because I part my hair on the left.”

So it’s a badge of honor as much as a punishment. Sometimes perhaps both. I totally get it.

@f00l @JnKL @narfcake Hey since when have we goated people advocating for themselves to serve? I remember a few we harassed about that (although I think eventually they were goated). Seems to me we usually goat people who fly under the radar, are active in the forums and have escaped goathood month after month. Or they do something spectacular like finger their dog and post about it or punish honor them with goathood when they do something really nice.

I know I posted a death certificate and that even wasn’t enough to get out of it. That month I had a last minute job interview (they had a failed search and so I was a temp hire), got the job the next day, had exactly 2 weeks to pack, find a place to live, move out of state… I got there at 3:15pm on Sunday, had to be at work the next day at 8am…

Protesting the nomination and actively trying to beg off is not the same as failing to participate or even to acknowledge the nomination.

I don’t get y’all. You’re talking like there is a special set of rules for being Goat. Take a look. Each and every goat that has been chosen has been picked because he or she has shown to have a particular trait or talent or something that this community has liked and then voted for.

So what if JnKL wants to be goat, there is nothing wrong with that. Nothing. However, if you decide that you don’t want him just because he promises that he will participate for a month, so be it.

I don’t think there are any rules for choosing a Goat besides “vote for whoever you want" and “don’t nominate/vote for someone who has already served”.

Aside from that, personal preference.

If people do or don’t want to vote for Goat based on whether the person is even aware of or has acknowledged the nomination, fine by me.

If people do or don’t want to vote for Goat based on stated willingness to serve, fine by me.

If some other reason is the decide-your-vote factor, also fine.

The Goat is not the leader of the free world, just someone who can take a beating and provide some entertainment. On those counts, the current scapegoat is not entirely a failure. He certainly has taken a beating. And it has been entertaining. Want something different? Vote for someone who you think will do better. So I just get home after being on the road all day (no “meh-and-drive” allowed!) to all of this fun and fuzziness! Well, here’s the thing. I am ready willing and able.
