@Felton10@phendrick It did not come with a charger, just the cable. A simple Usb-A(the big one from back in the day) to a USB-C(the little skinny one). Plug it into any USB-A 5 Volt device and it will charge fine.
@Felton10@phendrick The instructions warn about using rapid chargers that are higher than (I think) 5V. It says charging from a PC is fine. I used a meh six outlet surge protector with 2 type A USB sports and had no problem.
@Felton10@phendrick Most older USB chargers are 5v. I got this camera and I have no problem charging it with one of the dozens from old phones and every other device I ever bought.
@Felton10@Fuzzalini@phendrick If any of you need some ancient chargers like that, I haven’t tossed all of them to Goodwill yet. (You can usually get them there, BTW.) And loads of the car versions got included in the recent IRKs. What once was called a “rapid charger” was just 5V/2A, and won’t give these cameras any problems.
@chienfou@Fuzzalini@phendrick@werehatrack Thanks everyone-passed the info along to my son. He was the one I gave the x-box that I got in my IRK so even if this POC doesn’t work, he can’t complain too much.
@chienfou The crew at How Ridiculous squished a real GoPro down to about half an inch thick with their giant hammer; I don’t think they even made a token attempt to recover the SD from it.
@werehatrack
I’ve actually been impressed with how relatively indestructible those things are. I’ve had a couple that ended up being run through the washer, left outside, etc and was still able to retrieve data from them.
@mexicantacos I’ve only bought one, and damned if I know where it is. I thought I’d make use of it, but that turned out to be a bit optimistic. And then I figured out that as long as I didn’t need something that was brutality-tolerant and rain-resistant, I could just mount up one of the pocket cams instead, and get useful results with greater diversity in field of view choices.
I bought one from meh when they were selling them on April 1st. Haven’t bought a micro SD card for it yet, but the menu system is easy to use, the android phone app appears to work fine, and at least on the 2" touchscreen display the video quality looks fine. 240 fps at 720p resolution seems like it could be useful for fast action shots. Can’t be beat at this price.
@bfg9000 can you share a picture or 2 if it’s not too much of a pain…
I bought one, but I am saving it for a gift and I was thinking about getting another if the reviews from people here were good.
Do you think it would be ok for a teen, or is this too much of a ‘toy’? Thank you for any input.
@bfg9000 I could upload the picts I took, but as I recall, that is not an easy task. If someone knows how to do it, and has the time on their hands, I could easily send you an email with an attachment.
@k4evryng I took a fairly low light shot. I would say the light level was good. But, the barrelling is very noticeable. I would say it’s more of a toy. I bought it for the waterproof-ness. I would rather risk this $24(to me) camera in a water park than my much more expensive iphone…
@bfg9000 I will also add it comes with an incredible number of accessories. Mounts, connectors, lens wipes, a case with an extra back door! There has to be at least 15, if not 20 extra things with the camera itself. I got a 64G card from Walmart, class 3, $13. Seems to work fine.
@bfg9000 Thank you so much! Your answers definitely helped!
I got mine for $24 as well, which is a great price for a fun kid gift (especially with all the accessories!). That way if it breaks or gets lost it’s not a big deal.
Maybe if it comes up again for $24, I’ll get another…
@bfg9000 There is an option in the settings for “Distortion Correction” that will remove the barrel distortion.
I just played with mine from the Mehrathon. It’s pretty noisy in my low-light interior setting, but that shouldn’t be surprising. I put it in the case and stuck it under the sink while I ran water until it was submerged.
Of course audio is almost unusable in the case. I saw only a slight hit to image quality in the case, but the image was already pretty poor due to low light.
I’m happy for what I paid.
@bfg9000@Limewater
I have a couple of these type cameras/cases that we use with the grandkids in the pool. Lots of fun shots off the diving board, dog chasing toys in the pool etc. Good to have if you like to play in the water. Of course, touch screen means nada in that case.
Used one in CO ziplining last OCT. Not Nikon quality optics, but perfectly useful within their limits.
@bfg9000@Limewater I used it yesterday and the distortion correction was greyed out. I played around with the settings today and the distortion correction is only available for 1080p and lower, and only 60 fps and 30 fps. Greyed out for 4k and 120fps. But what I’m using it for at 120 fps doesn’t really matter about the barreling (golf and baseball swing analysis). I liked how everything looked at 720p and 120 fps, surprisingly clear even on a 65" TV.
@bfg9000@Fuzzalini Ah. I almost immediately switched it to 1080p, partly because I didn’t have any U3 SD cards and partly because I only just now remembered that I actually do now own a 4K television, so maybe I could try 4K after all…
@bfg9000 There is a distortion correction toggle in the settings. I haven’t played with it to see how much of a difference it makes. Just thought I’d mention it.
@werehatrack If someone sends me a MeGo personal blender, I will do it. I am not a bartender, but I took many chemistry courses in college. I am sure I could figure it out. Maybe Saul could help.
This looks a lot like the WASP CAM I got here in 2018 or earlier for about the same price ($30, give or take).
I inadvertently scratched the hell out of the screen on the WASP CAM. It did not have a removable protective film on it for shipping but I thought it did, silly me
I haven’t messed around with it too much. I’ve mostly messed around with the Nabi 1080P action cams I got here:

I’ve gotten 4 similar cameras from here and I haven’t used any of them. /buy
@BrandonGiesing@troy Neither of them have the item in stock; those are old listings that have defaulted to the MSRP that was active at the time the SKU was added. I recall seeing them at one or the other for something like $60 when they actually had them.
@troy Both will let you order it; neither has it in their stores. Given the quoted lead time, they probably don’t have it on hand at all, but have access to it on demand. There’s a good chance that they both are using a fulfillment handler for it in any event, and it might even be the same one, and they may even own the handler. That’s not the same thing as having it in stock where you can get it from them today. I have access to some drop-shipped stuff that would arrive with a label showing me as the shipper, and I do the same for others.
@jmbunkin@MrNews
I can remember “back in the day” when you would send in a roll to develop by mail, and when the prints came back it included a new roll of film. Can’t for the life of me remember the company name though.
@andrewx29@chienfou@MrNews I can affirmatively report that the slides produced via that process were even more fade=prone than Kodachrome. I recently pulled out several boxes of old slides to start digitizing images from the '70s, and only the Ektachrome has held up well.
@andrewx29@chienfou@werehatrack It was definitely an inferior product. I was recently digitizing some of my dad’s World War 2 Kodachrome slides (ASA-10), and they still look pretty good after 77 YEARS…
@andrewx29@MrNews@werehatrack
Supposedly the issue revolved around the fact that they use 35mm film stock rerolled to be used for taking single shots. Evidently it used a different processing then the regular c41… If I remember correctly
@andrewx29@chienfou@MrNews That is correct. Both the Eastman 5247 movie film and its companion positive print film used chemistry different from the Kodak C-process soup.
@ledzep11229 No. I bought one and it has wifi, but you can only connect to the devices wifi, I suspect you’d only use that to download pictures from it. Just buy a webcam, they have decent ones on Side Deal.
@midnightplatinu As one myself, and at that price, I’d much prefer a nice bathrobe, or maybe an electric can opener. Oh, wait – sorry, I thought you said “Boomer’s christmas present”…
@midnightplatinu Do you mean someone who does Zoom calls? No. It’s not that kind of camera. Just buy a webcam. I’ve bought tons of them for my office on side deal.
@kjschweitzer Yes and no. That deal is a bundle with a tracking doohickey that’s supposed to keep the camera pointed at the RealPerson™ in the field of view.
@TCayer The SD card is not the limiting factor, the hard limit of 2Gb on the file size is. About 30 minutes, from what I have found when digging for info. Of course, a 64G card will hold a bunch of them, but not all in one long chunk.
@cjpitsch yes, you can see and control the camera via the phone app, ive only played with it a bit but you can stop/start change to photo/video and watch videos from the phone.
I don’t get enough action to justify buying this.
@awk I would never admit this in public…
@bayportbob don’t worry, people can tell
@bayportbob @goodjuju Not that they’re going to say anything, glass houses and all that…
@bayportbob @goodjuju @werehatrack @awk This was a funny thread! You win Meh today!
$ 5 cheaper on mehrathon
@Felton10 Did you get me one?
@phendrick Bought my son one but he told me that you can only use a certain type of charger which he is not sure you can find anymore.
@Felton10 @phendrick It did not come with a charger, just the cable. A simple Usb-A(the big one from back in the day) to a USB-C(the little skinny one). Plug it into any USB-A 5 Volt device and it will charge fine.

@Felton10 @Fuzzalini @phendrick @werehatrack
those chargers are readily available at Dollartree (newly renamed to
Buck-n-a-quarter tree) for $1.25
@chienfou @Fuzzalini @phendrick @werehatrack Thanks everyone-passed the info along to my son. He was the one I gave the x-box that I got in my IRK so even if this POC doesn’t work, he can’t complain too much.
A great choice for those high-hazard shots…
…where you don’t really expect the camera to survive, but might be able to extract the SD card from the wreckage.
@werehatrack
assuming the various parts aren’t too scattered about to actually find a microSD card!
@chienfou The crew at How Ridiculous squished a real GoPro down to about half an inch thick with their giant hammer; I don’t think they even made a token attempt to recover the SD from it.
@werehatrack
I’ve actually been impressed with how relatively indestructible those things are. I’ve had a couple that ended up being run through the washer, left outside, etc and was still able to retrieve data from them.

Someone needs to use one to try making an instructional video for how to make margaritas in a MeGo personal blender, and get back to us with that.
@werehatrack If someone sends me a MeGo personal blender, I will do it. I am not a bartender, but I took many chemistry courses in college. I am sure I could figure it out. Maybe Saul could help.
Was the name iPro taken? If your gonna knock off something, get close enough to the original for a lawsuit.
@hchavers iToy would have been more honest, but honesty is never a primary goal of people who make something like these cameras.
