Anyway, we weren’t even able to get 60 candles on it before it started falling apart.
The ultimate insult was that when he blew them out, the people from the office next door came over because they “smelled smoke and were concerned about a fire.”
@ybmuG Your story reminds me of the birthday card that has a picture of a big flame coming off the earth and has the caption - Your birthday cake as seen from the moon. So did your boss get all the candles out in one breath?
Photo from couple years ago of my wife’s stepdad warming his hands at his 90th - had to split the candles among two cakes. The guy still goes out and cuts wood on his acreage.
At a few months short of 70, 50 looks pretty young to me. Happy Quarintine Birthday!

@mike808 My grandma turns 105 in 8 days. I don’t think a century looks very appealing though I must say. If things hurt now, I can’t even imagine!

@mike808 Oh my gosh that is amazing. Hope she has a reasonable level of health and vitality for her age. My uncle (who is 98) says he wants to live to 104. Mom says she’s not so sure she’d want that. Of course when I asked her last year how old was old, her response was 104. It used to be she said 90 was old. Of course the 5 year old said 10 was old and he could hardly wait. What is considered old is clearly a moving target.

And as someone else said you look younger than your age, as does your grandma and brother.That runs in our family too - looking younger than one’s age. I joke that if dermatologists were right that too much sun ages us prematurely then I should be a wrinkled prune due to all the outdoor stuff I did for a living, working on boats, etc. for years (and with the stupidity of youth I rarely used sun screen - paying for that with basal cell skin cancers). Instead I have barely any wrinkles at all. My mom looks my age and people think I am about 15-20 years younger than I am. Good in job interviews, not so good in a few other contexts.
Think of everything you’ve lived through; all the things you’ve witnessed; places you’ve been, experiences, people you’ve met; and then think how damn lucky you are because 50 is so cool… You are a legend now full of so much wisdom.
happy belated 50th! it’s definitely a weird time to be having a (normally) momentous event…hope that you have many more opportunities for celebration out in the world, and that you celebrated this year in the best way possible under the circumstances.
Another way to think of your age is, as my friend’s father would always say, you are celebrating the 21st anniversary of turning 29.
