@Mothersnakes@shahnm I do listen to a lot of music, but I don’t much like it when they talk a lot. Tell me the name of the artist and song, if you’re feeling particularly wordy, the album, then shut up. It’s a shame radio can’t do that anymore.
I love actual play RPG podcasts. I listen to The Glass Cannon Podcast, Androids & Aliens, The Adventure Zone and Nerd Poker. I’m also in one too if that’s your kind of thing. It’s called Adventure Awaits.
@JT954 Yes. Best case, you have a thing with podcasts on it – a smartphone, 10 year old iPod, Zune, whatever. Your car probably has an aux in. So you can probably run a male-to-male connector between your thing’s headphone jack and the aux in.
Recent cars also tend to be able to pair with smartphones using Bluetooth, so that you can play phone audio out of the car’s speakers, not just phone calls.
There are also bluetooth -> aux in adapters, which can be nice to avoid physically connecting your phone to your dashboard, if you don’t have bluetooth in the car.
Some cars have USB ports that support flash drives or iPhones specifically, so there are possibilities there.
A car with an internet connection probably has some kind of podcast client, or Stitcher, if that’s still a thing (boo Stitcher).
If your car hasn’t got a USB port, Bluetooth, some built-in support, or an aux in jack, then there is this kind of thing.
@hems79
It did start out slow, but they really had some great episodes where some of their ideas got made. Check out both episodes of “Tommyball”, but only after you listen to episode 4, where they make the idea.
@DVDBZN Not really. But the first two in my list at times have a guest who discusses something along that line, usually it is the host of This Week In Science.
@DVDBZN@tinsami1 There was one called Pragmatic. Don’t know if it’s still running, but it got into some engineering topics, like popular “tech” shows used to be about (before it all became business). I stopped listening because I wasn’t paying enough attention, but all the episodes are still sitting on my phone… I’d probably recommend giving that a look.
I like the Nintendo Dispatch podcast. I’ve also listened to a few of Keto for Normies lately. Usually whatever interest I’m pursuing that week I find a podcast for.

Mainly tech blather, but sometimes The Dan Patrick Show (sports).
I’ve been using Overcast as a player, which can take out silences and speed up play. Along with skipping commercials, this lets me listen to a 3 hour radio program in two hours.
sometimes, The Incomparable (rotating panel of cheerful “geek” people talking about media they like–television, books, comics, movies). Joe Rogan (skipping most of the fighters and comedians, long interviews with scientists and drug people, interesting to listen to).
All the President’s Lawyers is interesting – actual lawyer talk about legal stuff that’s been in the news. It’s odd that their perspective doesn’t seem well represented in the general media.
Then the odd programmer podcast.
I’ve been thinking I should probably delete all the news, popular, political, and “same people talking to each other every week about {whatever}” shows. It’s a bit much.
@goldnectar I kind of think it is propaganda and media that got Trump elected. You see nothing but calorie-free media forever and you (“you” meaning, Republican primary voters) could almost be forgiven for mistaking Trump for being as (un)worthy as the next man.
If you know any good political podcasts, don’t be afraid to share them. I haven’t come across any that I enjoy much, and I’ve listened to a bunch. Hardly any political media wants to stick to what is true or to provide the full context necessary to understand a story. It’s all noise, when it isn’t slanted, when it isn’t deceptive on its face.
True Crime podcasts…because there’s nothing like hearing all about the scum of the earth. The best ones are when they’ve solved the crime and you don’t have worry that the perp is still out there, watching you.
I don’t listen to podcasts.
@shahnm Neither do I
@Mothersnakes @shahnm I do listen to a lot of music, but I don’t much like it when they talk a lot. Tell me the name of the artist and song, if you’re feeling particularly wordy, the album, then shut up. It’s a shame radio can’t do that anymore.
None
I only listen to podcasts by mimes.
Shoot, I thought I was going to list a bunch of stuff but it turns out I only care about science and music.
Audiobooks.
Currently Under the Dome by Stephen King.
@jst1ofknd 2 audiobooks I’ve loved listening to have been his Cell, and 11/22/63.
Shocked no one has mentioned true crime. Up and Vanished, In the Dark, Serial, Undisclosed, Someone Knows Something, and Uncover are amazing!
@youtee same! i scrolled quite a ways before i found your comment.
I love actual play RPG podcasts. I listen to The Glass Cannon Podcast, Androids & Aliens, The Adventure Zone and Nerd Poker. I’m also in one too if that’s your kind of thing. It’s called Adventure Awaits.
Is there a way to listen to a podcast in a car instead of radio?
@JT954
If your car has Bluetooth, then use that. If not, there are products that convert from Bluetooth to radio channel, or from AUX to CD or tape.
@JT954 Possibly from flash drives.
@JT954 Yes. Best case, you have a thing with podcasts on it – a smartphone, 10 year old iPod, Zune, whatever. Your car probably has an aux in. So you can probably run a male-to-male connector between your thing’s headphone jack and the aux in.

@DVDBZN I tried listening to The Unmade Podcast, but I really lost interest halfway through the first podcast. How has the podcast progressed?
@hems79
It did start out slow, but they really had some great episodes where some of their ideas got made. Check out both episodes of “Tommyball”, but only after you listen to episode 4, where they make the idea.
@DVDBZN
New episode of HI just went up on youtube.
The podcasts playing on rotation when I’m driving my card to-from work:
@tinsami1
I’ve been looking for a podcast that discusses the science of/behind technology, rather than consumer tech. Do you know of any like that?
@DVDBZN Not really. But the first two in my list at times have a guest who discusses something along that line, usually it is the host of This Week In Science.
Just to round up my list, I also watch (sometimes just listening to) the following on YouTube:
@DVDBZN @tinsami1 There was one called Pragmatic. Don’t know if it’s still running, but it got into some engineering topics, like popular “tech” shows used to be about (before it all became business). @tinsami1 what kind of card do you drive?
I’m a purist. I only listen to podcasts about podcasts.
@chr2
Then The Unmade Podcast is just the podcast for you!
I don’t listen to podcasts.
Also, is this a recycled poll question? I remember a similar one not too long ago.

History! Check out the Revolutions podcast by Mike Duncan ( he also does a history of rome). Best podcast for commuting hands down.

I don’t. Unless they are recorded on video, then I might watch people talk on YouTube.

I picked sports, but I have listened to a lot of different ones. There are so many that are really good.

Science being a solid 3rd is surprisingly encouraging. Politics being 4th is why we have President Trump.
@goldnectar I kind of think it is propaganda and media that got Trump elected. You see nothing but calorie-free media forever and you (“you” meaning, Republican primary voters) could almost be forgiven for mistaking Trump for being as (un)worthy as the next man.

@moonhat Right now A&E’s Cold Case File, but I recently finished season 1 of Up and Vanished.
