@Kyeh This!
I vacuum downstairs every day before working, never have dirty dishes on the counters or sink, and always keep up with the laundry. The rest gets done when I get to it.
I was invited to visit a family living on one of the Pueblos. Their house was constructed of Adobe and the floors were compacted soil. That house was the cleanest home I believe I’ve ever been in. It smelled fresh and organic. I went home and tried to simulate the dirt floors by not sweeping or vacuuming but, turns out you can’t just not sweep or vacuum and expect the wholesome cleanliness of a dirt floor Adobe. What I ended up with was a dirty stinky house that did not smell fresh or organic.
I clean the house when the wife isn’t feeling up for it. However, I don’t make her go to work and pay the bills when I’m not feeling up for that. Nothing wrong with staying in our lanes when we both choose them.
@smyle I’m glad I learned this as early as I did in my marriage, but had I learned it earlier I would’ve gotten laid so much more. The more I clean, the more she likes me.
i used to be more regimented about it, for various reasons. but now i don’t really leave the house so…you might think it’s cleaner but it’s the opposite.
i do make the bed every day. and i have to use a laundromat so laundry is always folded and put away. and since i love to cook and don’t have a dishwasher, i do dishes multiple times a day as well as wiping down the countertops and the stovetop each time. the fridge and pantry interiors are also both very clean and organized.
but stuff like dusting or cleaning the floors…don’t ask. don’t ask about the tub either. or the outside of the refrigerator. or the room that has a ton of junk i thought i would sell on craigslist or whatever but haven’t gotten around to. or all the plants that need repotting. or the big pile of comics that need to be sorted and put away. or…
but yesterday i did finally donate a ton of clothes and shoes so, that’s something.
House keeper comes every other Tuesday to do the major cleaning - bathrooms, dusting, vacuuming, etc. In between, my wife and I split the day-to-day stuff like dishes, wiping counter tops and picking up clutter. Works for us.
The question shouldn’t be “how often do I clean” but “what level of filth can I tolerate”.
Pollen motivates me. And when the dust bunnies start to breed gets me to move to.
Define “clean.”

What year is it again?
I don’t, that’s what the help is for.
This sounds better than the truth, which is - I’m always cleaning some part of the house, but it’s never entirely clean.

My wife hires a maid when she get tired enough of my mess.
Who has time to clean?
It’ll rain eventually…
The car will get cleaned too.
@2many2no Last rain storm did a surprisingly nice cleaning job on the truck.

@accelerator That is honestly one of the best stories I have read here.
My life hack is waiting until you make plans to have guests over and rushing to clean the areas they may occupy at the last minute.

When on vacation, Were not going any where, anyways.
Do what?
As often as Mrs. smyle says “hey, clean your $#!+ up” Her tolerance for clean is higher than mine, so I try to keep her happy.

o/ Up top for those of us a little slow on the uptake.
I never said i caught on to this early. But I’ve managed to keep her from leaving me for over 27 years, so i must be doing something right.

I clean the house every other time I clean the toilet. Does that clear it up?
As little as possible.
We have deleted clean from our vocabulary once we let Walter start walking around.
Why did it not offer:
Married
@davea510 soon to be divorced due to failure to clean/rely on the spouse to do it?

Cleaning, what’s that? Dust mites might be harmed!
I have better things to do
Spot clean daily, good scrub once a week, deep clean monthly
Same! Daily cleaning, spot clean weekly, meh on monthly, I seem to always be cleaning something. Family of 5, so plenty of messes here.

I normally just have to wait a day or so until my wife tells me to pick up my crap
I am waiting until my kids move out…then when I clean a surface it won’t be filled with crap 15 minutes later
Is hoarders wait till it hits the ceiling or an intervention!
