@awk@ivannabc with the extra 50 lbs much of which landed in my butt and belly, makeup just doesnt seem to matter. I’m retired and don’t even own nice suits that fit anymore so why bother.
@Salanth Same pretty much! Just bought some setting spray with spf so I don’t feel bad about not reapplying. I can just spritz it on my face throughout the day.
i used to wear makeup daily, especially because i had some pretty bad skin issues and it would truly ruin my whole day when strangers would point it out, so i did everything possible to avoid this happening. also, it was painful to have my skin exposed to the elements.
but about a decade ago, i was finally able to get my skin under control. also during this time, i finally got serious about regrowing my eyebrows. once that happened, i only wore makeup when my partner and i went out to clubs. which went from multiple times a week, to weekly, to monthly, to sometimes only every other month. then, the pandemic hit.
the last time i truly did a full face of makeup was february of 2019. in late 2020, i put on some concealer and smudged on a bit of eye pencil for my bff’s zoom baby shower.
@accelerator if there’s anything life has taught me, it’s that a great many people are truly desperate to just blurt out unnecessary comments about other people’s appearances. it’s weird because i don’t think i could say this stuff even if somebody paid me. guess they weren’t taught if you can’t say something nice, keep your mouth firmly shut.
my skin will always be pinkish and sensitive to heat & sun so even though i don’t get the “wow what happened to your face?” type comments anymore i do still get “looks like someone got too much sun today” “next time you should wear sunscreen” “omg! you’re so sunburned!” etc all the time, even though it’s just normal-for-me flushing and i wear spf every day. it’s rude and infantilizing to think an adult doesn’t know how to take care of themselves and doesn’t know what their own face looks like. (& even if i was badly burned, strangers still don’t need to comment on it.)
@accelerator@jerk_nugget
TIL! Although I would never think of commenting on someone’s acne or scars, I’m afraid I probably have made some remarks about sunburn in the past, but I won’t do that again! I never considered that it could be something else. I don’t think I’ve ever made those comments to complete strangers but now I realize that even with coworkers it’s probably not wise.
@Kyeh i definitely think if you know the person, there’s wiggle room there. like i feel Not Great no matter who says it, but there’s still a big difference if it’s a random cashier making a joke compared to a friend who says something with kindness/concern, yanno? anyway thanks for reading and chiming in! your comment means a lot hope you’re having a nice week and that it’s cooler where you are than it is here!
@jerk_nugget I get bad cold sores so once when a coworker had a large ugly spot on his lip I assumed it was one and commiserated; it turned out to be a patch of skin cancer! He was okay with talking about it, but it could easily have been something he didn’t want to discuss, I’m sure. I suppose the wisest thing is to remember what Alice in Wonderland said: You should learn not to make personal remarks,' Alice said with some severity; it’s very rude.’
Live and learn!
We’re actually having wonderful cool weather here at the moment - I feel pretty lucky and didn’t even mind walking to work through a drenching rainstorm that start just as I stepped out of my car. I hope things cool down soon where you are!
I never do full makeup. But I will do a little blush, eye shadow and lipstick if we are going out somewhere super fancy. Otherwise nope, not happening. Chapstick is about as makeupy I get. Though as I’ve gotten older I do like a good moisturizer. But even that isn’t daily.
Last year’s habits have caused me to never leave time enough to do that before I need to be on my way somewhere, and when staying at home I can’t quite find the urge to try. So it’s been a while.
Well, not to brag or anything, but I’m just naturally beautiful.
@awk I’m not. But I still rarely ever wear any. I think I’ve put on makeup twice in the last three years lol
@awk, ditto

@awk Pics?
Pretty much every Halloween.
Wife makeup transfer happens in the oddest of ways.
About once or twice every NEVER.
All the time because I have to wear SPF for medical reasons anyhow. Might as well play with it.

Monday through Friday. Work dress code is business casual so I will wear it then. Saturday and Sunday is for soft pants and no makeup though!

Hey man, live in the ICP is a thrill. It ain’t no cake-walk, but makeup is life.
