My favorite is a knife I got at a swap meet in Santee, in the 70’s. A WW2 Imperial M1 Bayonet like-new with case.
Does that make me a collector?

In the antique and vintage world, the rule is that if you have three or more of something, you have a collection. I have a collection of Swiss Army knives. I even have a nice, very sharp machete (it’s a lot of work to put an edge on a blade that’s meant to be dull, but it made me happy).
I have a few sets of kitchen knives too, including a couple of butcher knives that are from the forties (and which will still slice through bone like butter).
I don’t know what became of my “cooking grandmother’s” knives, but I remember how they looked. They must have been traditional carbon-steel. She sharpened daily. I think some of them had been her mother’s once, and the cutting edges and blades were no longer quite their original shapes.
@PlacidPenguinWhat kind of bone? Most any, although I don’t eat beef, so there’s no data on that. Excellent and quick on lamb, pork, and of course random bird (duck’s my favorite). Never tested it on people (yet, anyways), but I imagine it’d work about the same as pork.
I only have three pocket knives. I didn’t buy any of them.
I really only use one because it’s an assisted opening knife with a flipper lever on the back that my fingers can actually operate. I basically use it to open boxes and dog food bags.
I have looked at knives for years, and sometimes one will catch my eye, but then I know that I’ll probably never use it, so why waste the money.
now, most of the ones meh sells are, well, meh. I have a ton of collector knives, pretty knives, nice knives
and then there are swords
swords are really much more than long knives
falchions are my favorite blade, because they are good for those of us who are not built like a tank, need less muscle and height behind it to do … well… damage.
I bought the set of Emeril kitchen knives. I like them. It’s was one of my occasional not-regrettable Meh purchases (NRMP).

@davecort I like to carry one of these to ‘comply’ with airport security. Made to accept an X-Acto blade, which I remove while traveling.

@PlacidPenguin Guess it depends on criteria. Grandfather taught me to always carry a knife; feel naked without one. Successful at passing thru airport security. VERY sharp (when ‘loaded’, of course); think scalpel. Easily small enough for pocket, or even keychain.
Probably not what you want for hunting, unless you’re going after mice or squirrel. Maybe rabbit.
I get a little obsessed with nice kitchen knives, but I pretty much only buy them at marshals or home goods. One folder. I also have one knife that’s made from a file that I got from a drunk guy for a pack of cigarettes. It’s pretty much useless as a knife at this point, but it’s fun to play with.

A friend of mine says he’s not a knife collector. He’s an outright knife slut.
