I’ll always regret missing out on the Seligman experiment. I think I discovered too late an email I’d overlooked. It was a personal failure. We had insider information on the formation of mediocre and meh (nothing illegal or anything; we certainly haven’t made money from it). I created an account pre-Kickstarter, but I wasn’t nearly cool enough to vibe with the original forum. Or I was busy. Either way, I suck. But apparently I’m just mediocre enough to have been totally turned on by the Kickstarter. That’s right, turned on. You get your kicks, I’ll get mine (ha, my kicks . . . tarter). Not really sexual, but it was fun to say. I have friends who do the Kickstarter. I like to think of myself as a Kickstarter evangelist. So when I found out about the Kickstarter with the original fuckyou bag, I was all in. Even so, I wasn’t as fanatical at first as some of these mad fuckers. And I could only sustain my mania for a relatively few months (maybe a couple of years). Now my love for meh is on slow but steady simmer. I still tell everyone about you. I brag about you, meh. And I do love you. Maybe I don’t sing you love songs anymore, but, yaknow, I don’t sing for shit, so that’s better for everyone. I laud you in simple prose and with all of my meh paraphernalia. And, really, it’s mostly because I know that I have an addiction and if I gave in to you like part of me wants to, my marriage would fail, I’d lose my job, I’d be flat broke, I’d stop having conversations irl, etc. I’m only partly joking, maybe mostly not joking. But I’m still there for you, usually right at midnight. And I’m sure to drop in when I need a good round of “fucks”. The oldtimers know what I mean. The rest of you can get with the fucking program or fucking fuck the bloody fucking hell off.
So, it’s been a good run so far. I love you, meh. I like to think I’ll be around as long as you are (and, yaknow, I’m alive, nominally sane and shit like that), and I sincerely hope you’ll be around as long as I am.
@therealjrn I actually can sum things up, especially if I absolutely have to. I even tweet–and none of that multi-part weak-ass bullshit. You might not have guessed, but I like the words. I like everything about the words. I like the way they tumble of my tongue or cascade cacophonous from my keyboard. Words make me happy. Most of the time, I have a few things to say. Perhaps rather, I have a thing to say, but I want to say it with some fullness. Not all of its fullness (that’s just silly, an impossibility), but some. In any case, whatever comes to me in the moment is like a child of my thoughts. I do, if you must know the truth, kill some of them, or at least demand that they stay in their rooms while the other kids play. That sounds cruel, doesn’t it. It is. What were we talking about?
I’ve been here since the very beginning. I don’t know if anyone remembers this but my daughter was sent a free kindle by Meh after I posted in the thread about how I was so happy about the kindle price because it meant I could give her one.
She had just had brain surgery and really, really wanted a kindle. I was thrilled by the price and that alone made me a forever customer for Meh. When the whole Meh team reached out to us to say they wanted to send her the kindle for free as a get well soon gift I was in tears.
We pay it forward every chance we get. I will never forget this act of kindness. My entire family will never forget.
I’m interested in the true distribution of Meh user account creation dates vs. the results of this poll. How does the real data compare to mehtizens involved enough to keep refreshing the site today and who respond to this poll?
That’s a tricky question. Even though my profile says : “2127 days ago on September 11th, 2013”
I didn’t actually join Meh until 8 July 2014, because there was no Meh before then for us non-flaskish customers. That’s kinda why today is Meh’s fifth birthday.
Day 1. Had no idea about the Kickstarter campaign. But, by pure luck I saw an ad on FB (of all places) telling me about it. I signed up and clicked my first Meh button that day.
My first purchase was Fukubukuro 3, on Nov 14, 2014. I joined the day before. It’s all been downhill, but since it started at a meh level, it’s hard to tell the difference.

First Fuko was #4. One of the little kids is tearing the hell out of it now…
@kdemo I wonder how many meh-ers don’t have something still in the box…somewhere. I think I may still have some of those old leaky batteries out in the garage.
