How 'bout that Frozen 2 Trailer?

Why is she bothering walking on the water? She has previously built a huge ice castle in seconds and frozen an entire fjord. Couldn’t she just build an ice bridge that is taller than the waves? Couldn’t she conjure an ice yacht and use her powers to propel it along? Are her powers diminished because she’s away from home in a warmer area? Some other dumb reason her powers have weakened? It’s annoying when powers are inconsistent and only work when convenient. Better have some good plot excuse for it, Disney.

You know way too much about Frozen.
@sammydog01 It was nice that the trailer included Kristoff as an actual valiant, pungent reindeer king like Olaf prophesied.
@sammydog01 Frozen was my kid’s jam back in the day. She was so little she would jump every time during the opening scene where the saw plunged through the ice. She knew it was coming, but it would still get her.
@medz I know every word of “Snow Dogs”.
@sammydog01 See…that’s gotta be way worse.
@medz With Cuba Gooding Jr. and James Coburn? I would take Snow Dogs any day.
@sammydog01 my mom LOVES Snow Dogs!
@medz @sammydog01 You’re like me with Balto.
I’m currently making a Frozen themed Valentine’s Day box for my daughter.
Here it is! Stayed up way too late working on it.
@lichme That’s legit. Does the drawbridge/door lower for easy retrieval of valentines?
@medz I wish! That idea was vetoed
@lichme Shame. The only box I can remember from my childhood was a robot with the head made out of a kleenex box, paper towel roll arms, and a larger box for the torso. The whole thing was covered in foil and it had a hatch on the back to get the stuff out. That hatch was the shiz, man.
It still has olaf the snow-twerp in it. Meh.
I almost felt like she was doing some weird new surfing thing.
I am looking more forward to Frozen 2 than the live action Aladdin. The only movie I am 100% seeing in theaters this year is Downton Abbey.
I tried to watch the trailer and by 1:18 I didn’t care enough to continue and just hit pause.
I already knew I wasn’t the target demo for this, though.
I so want to care enough about this to participate in this thread. I already have a number of snarky comments lined up. Pithy aphorisms with clever tie-ins to well worn Frozen lines and plot themes. Allusions to other internet memes that would make all but the most frozen-hearted chuckle despite themselves. I would love to spend my time typing up my little icicles of merriment, I really would.
But I just don’t think I can muster up the energy to bother typing something up. It would take more time and vigor than all the batteries in my fridge could provide, even on a particularly chilly day. There is only so much I can do here - I’m essentially powerless.
If only it weren’t that way. If only I could just find the extra ounce of effort. Then I could regale you all with the type of entertainment that we really only find at Meh. It would be epic. Just as it should be.
But it won’t be.
Because it’s Frozen.
2…
So fuck it.
@shahnm TL;DR
@heartny Irony status: complete.
@shahnm I thought about saying AWESOME to evoke @mediocrebot, but I changed my mind.
MEALS! DEALS! EELS! AWESOME!
@heartny @mediocrebot That would have been double-plus AWESOME. Too bad you didn’t do it.
POKER! JOKER! NOT MEDIOCRE! AWESOME!
Wife is bummed because we’re going to Disney next year and she reckons folks will be super into Frozen again. Just when it started to die down after Moana…
@medz Epcot is the only park with Frozen characters. So if you don’t have anyone still interested in it or the other stuff at Epcot you could just skip that park.
@msklzannie Maybe the rides and official characters, but even as recent as 1-2 years ago, we saw plenty Frozen merchandise and references in the other parks. Featured pretty heavily in the castle shows at Magic Kingdom too. (both in character shows and the fireworks/laser show)
Was it ever addressed as to why Olaf doesn’t have his personal snow flurry cloud following him around in these scenes? Maybe Elsa upgraded that spell or something…
So Anna can use a canoe made of ice to float safely down the river, but Else can’t create a big boat of ice to get out beyond the waves? I mean, I guess there are magical water horses in the water that could be breaking her ice as she forms it, but I still don’t understand her approach of running on the water.
@medz My take is in the beginning of the movie, she’s still working on focusing and purposely limiting her powers. She could just freeze whole masses of the ocean, with huge repercussions, but she’s trying to work out the minimal amount she can do to get the job done.
And then this trailer flips it to suggest that the second half will be about her trying to expand her powers as much as possible.
@dave I suppose. Seems like there would be safer ways to test focusing/limiting your powers than jumping in a raging ocean.
Also seemed like she had a pretty good hang of things at the end of the first one. (ex: building a giant ice castle, giving Olaf his personal snow flurry, and making an ice rink limited to the castle courtyard)
@medz If you were a real fan, you’d know that ‘Ana’ only has one ‘n.’
@Limewater I don’t watch with the subtitles on.
@Limewater @medz
¿por qué?
@therealjrn
@medz I lol’d.
@medz Ok, I’m stretching here, but my idea is that she is learning to control her powers under duress so she needed to find a “put me in harm’s way without me harming anyone else” situation.
I think the castle deal was a bit of a disaster, since it came with “the whole region experiences immediate winter in summer”, presumably with the accompanying “all the crops die, everyone starves, whole species go extinct” repercussions.
@dave Maybe. More likely, it’s a plot device that will force her to make friends with some mystical water bending character that will help get her off the island.
I have yet to see most of the 1st movie.
@msklzannie - It’s kind of cool.
Fuck Olaf. Practically ruined the whole movie just to include a toy tie-in as a sidekick.
Almost as bad as the ending of Titanic.
@compunaut this.
@compunaut I disagree. I personally found Olaf to be hilarious and much-needed comic relief. -shrug-
