My dad was old school, he always wore a watch. You have your daytime work watch and then your more dressy one for those special occasions.
He was always a pretty classy guy and well dressed, a handsome watch and bracelet was his signature look!
It’s only been 2.5 weeks without him and jeez do I miss him!
This video really has aged like spoiled milk, huh? Too bad @matthew isn’t here to make Glen eat his words.
For reference, the first Apple Watch came out on April 24, 2015, after a winter’s worth of anticipation (or derision) from having been announced in October 2014. This video was originally released on March 18, 2015.
I wear my dad’s watches, and he had quite a few. I’m a woman so I just resized some of the bands. They make me think of the same qualities you described.
@mnhoscar I have multiple watches, including a few that need daily winding. I don’t wear one every day, but I do use them regularly enough to make it worthwhile keeping them. I find them particularly useful when traveling across time zones.
The advent of the Apple Watch and its many imitators and competitors changed this considerably. And yes, for those who detest massive wrist-lumps and have no desire to wear a device that includes the “smartwatch” features, the Casio G-shock is, and likely shall remain, the obvious utilitarian choice.
@werehatrack When I wore a watch regularly, I liked the Casios. But the bands self-destructed too soon and I never found replacements that were much better. I eventually gave up on wearing a watch all the time and haven’t had one in years - clocks are ubiquitous anyway. (But I can still see the mark on my left wrist where one or another watch resided for 50 years.)
The very finest people wear watches. Casio G-Shocks for the win.

@lljk It’s particularly amusing for the fact that “smart” watches are pretty much of a staple here now.
