The wooly caterpillars around Tulsa are verry fuzzy. I’m stocking up on non perishables not for the snow, but for the ice.
I’ve always been reliably competent to be able to get out and about but semi retirement has given me the luxury of just staying home in inclement weather.
Currently they’re predicting our first frost of the season on Monday night. Over the next few days I will need to batten down the hatches. I will probably try to cover some of the veggies since the frost will only last for a couple of nights. Also need to finish building a cold frame for the plumeria that we have actually planted in the garden once the polycarbonate panels show up. Always something to do.
@chienfou
Revised/current prediction calling for temps down in the mid twenties. Still a few days before it becomes reality so we’ll see how my plants survive.
I am in the pretty purple. I have heard as low as 2 and as high as 10 inches Monday. I have to travel on Tuesday. I am crossing my fingers and toes for good roads. Last year the first snow was deep and held on for days.
With climate change, there’s going to be new models of weather that have to be longer (e.g. instead of four seasons for years, there’s going to be periods of three/four/six season cycles)
What was an especially chilling winter last year won’t repeat this year, but might the year after or two years down. (This year might be a particularly wet and icy one.)
Looks like we’re in the light-blue edges this time, but we were getting pretty gnarly winds from our neighbors to the north yesterday, with more coming overnight tonight. Oh, joy. So far, so good with the power & internet/cable staying on, though, so… KNOCK WOOD!
Expect to get down to 26⁰ tonight. The polycarbonate panels that were due on Friday have been stuck in Atlanta for 3 days. Needless to say they will be no help. I went ahead and built the frame around the plumeria and covered it with sheet plastic. I’ll replace that with the polycarb 2x4 panels when they arrive. Meanwhile I had to go out and harvest everything salvageable out of the garden. I had a couple of plants that were small enough to cover with buckets / cardboard boxes so I’ll see if they survive tonight but I’m not holding my breath. I DID end up with a shit-ton of jalapenos though.
Low tomorrow night is supposed to be right around freezing. Then the temps climb back up in the mid 70s with lows in the 40s at night for the next 10 days. Wish the damn vortex had stayed a few hundred miles north.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@therealjrn be sure to stock up on boardgames in case the Internet goes out and cabin fever sets in
@pakopako Ah! Yes! I also have a couple of jigsaw puzzles too.
@pakopako @therealjrn
Hey, I thought that in the middle of the country, when cabin fever strikes, it’s chainsaw time!
Isn’t it?
Or is that just in Texas?

@f00l @pakopako Oh, there’s no need to wait. Anytime can be chainsaw time!

@speediedelivery Vaya con dios.
So who is cold today?
/giphy brrrr

@f00l
But it will be back in the 70s in a couple of days.
Texas seems be be off the “frozen hit list” this once.
The usual suspects.

@pakopako
Flip from EL NIÑO to EL NIÑA has been causing predictable wet/dry, warmer/colder cycles for years.
@chienfou @pakopako Who’s El Niña? Is that like one of those “Boy Named Sue” situations?

My state is Bleen
@Wollyhop I like that better than “teal.”
Sunny and 50s all day Saturday, rain and 40s all day Sunday, snow and 30 all day today. Yep checks out! Just got my snow tires on today.
I see my state of Ohio is in the “Blue Balls Sack”. Oh joy!!

My state is mostly blue but also surrounded by purple
I bet my friend is super stoked she moved back to Ohio!

Guess I got my snow tires on just in time! Didn’t expect this much. We still have the furniture on the deck and unharvested veggies. Oh well…
