@bleedmichigan @stolicat I agree and actually have friends who I agree and disagree with politically; we discuss our viewpoints intelligently often, without fighting. Sometimes we even change each others minds, but not always.

That said that is not something you can do with everyone and have positive results. I don’t want to fight with anyone, I just want to enjoy myself.

@bleedmichigan nope. Every guy should get snipped as soon as he has decided he has all the kids he wants. Birth control is much harder on women. Birth control pills means taking a pill that messes with your insides, your desire levels ect every day same time for the rest of the time you don’t want kids. I have not given birth but i hear that is no picnic.
Instead revel im what getting snipped and then tested to male sure your swimmers are trily dammed up means. It means more sex. It means your wife will not have to be on hormores. It means you are an adult man taking responsibility for your own choices. It means you are in control of your own reproduction choices. It doesn’t hurt to much according to most men and you can spend a few days getting spoiled.
It is a smart sexy honorable choice

It should be mentioned that long-term post-vasectomy pain is not all that uncommon.

I’m not anti-vasectomy by any means, but know what you’re (potentially) getting into. Still one of the better options, imo.

@f00l while that sounds like fun and would be worthy of such lofty awards as a Pulitzer or perhaps whatever urologists get at conventions for completing the most vasectomies the prior year I would not be able to in good conscience only write about such things as the sac reword that makes it all juice no pulp. There are so many great topics to consider in December. I’d be all for a month long captaining if the Meh complaint line

I do think it’s odd how the downsides of birth control don’t get brought up that often.

Everyone loves putting women on the pill, but don’t really mention too often how it messes with hormones, often lowering sex drive and making them less physically attracted to the person they’re getting birth control to be with. And doctor’s are 100% sure how it works.

Everyone loves vasectomies and don’t really mention that something like 15% of vasectomies lead to long-term pain. (Don’t trust me-- look it up.)

Everyone loves IUDs, but don’t discuss how it’s essentially a permanent morning-after pill, which may be a problem to you, depending on your beliefs.

Don’t trust me on any of the above. If you’re interested, look it up yourself. And to be clear again, I am not against contraception by any means. I don’t regret my own vasectomy even though I’m in the 15% that I mentioned above. I would have liked to have been warned beforehand, but I wouldn’t have done anything differently.

@moonhat actually no it’s not but hey that’s beside the point. As a side note I have been told this is a pretty bloodless surgery so that’s fun.

@bleedmichigan @moonhat FWIW I consider my vasectomy as some of the best money I ever spent. Over the past 36 yrs it has paid for itself numerous times over vs the cost of BCPs or condoms. Not to mention the cost of raising an (unanticipated) ankle biter. Thankfully, I am in the 85% (sorry @limewater)
PS the next best $$ spent was my lasix.
(hmmm what does it say about me that I consider 2 different medical procedures as the best money I ever spent…?)

@chienfou @Limewater @moonhat interestingly one my current state vasectomies are covered as no cost under the ACA so no money spent. As for lasik I have 20/10 eyesight so I don’t see that in my future. At the same time I did have my tonsils out 3 years ago to combat tosiliths and that was money well spent. As long as the pain is manageable and my wife is still of the mentality that she did not get married to be celibate than the vasectomy will be worth it as my youngest ankle biter is 11 and I really don’t want a 12 year age gap so no more kids. If we decide we want more kids in the future I have no problem adopting as there are more than enough kids in search of a home.

@CaptAmehrican and sailing, cats… that sounds good in addition to what you said. @bleedmichigan your only escape is to go winter camping in the wilderness where you don’t have internet or a cell signal.

@CaptAmehrican @Kidsandliz there actually is a really nice Virginia State park called Shenandoah River State Park that is a short drive, open all year, and has zero cell service. They do have a old style phone booth that works though so maybe with the right old tech I could get a dial up signal if those still exist.
