@msayler That is strange, it’s the second “Convoy” reference I’ve seen in the last few days, and it was a song from 40 years ago that I thought was long forgotten (except by me, and perhaps you). I had the whole record album.
@msayler ,@pmarin love me some convoy. Dad had CW McCall on one of his casettes every time he took us out west. Every now and then I get a hankering for Wolf Creek pass or black bear road too
@msayler@pmarin I actually sent my mom and dad a text cause they share an account when I bought a truck this year
"I’s thumbin’ through the want ads in the Shelby County Tribune when this classified advertisement caught my eye. It said, “Take imme-di-ate delivery on this '57 Chevrolet half-ton pickup truck. Will sell or swap for a hide-a-bed and thirty-five bucks. Call One-four-oh, ring two, and ask for Bob.”
@mbberman@whiskeyish Ditto for me. I sent them a note on Friday and just waiting on a response. Would like to know what to do with the box of broken glass as my wife REALLY would like to get rid of it one way or another.
@mike808 They are described as “nestable” and I doubt they’ll work with your IOT thermostat, so probably yes. May want to ask, “Hey Google!” just to be sure though.
I like kitchen storage and I like glass and I like these kind of snap-on lids. Worth a try!
I have a few coupon codes that have been sitting in my Google Keep files, and one of them just expired two days ago. So I figured I better get on the stick and use them. BUT! It turns out I can only use one at a time. Ah well.
Looks like a good deal. I’d buy, except I already have more storage containers than food to put in them, and less refrigerator space than I’d need to put them in.
Also, some of the reviews on the “similar” offering on Amazon complained of not all the containers (not talking lids) being glass, but that doesn’t look like an issue here.
Only question, is the glass here as good as the authentic “Pyrex” glass, which itself is not as good as the original Pyrex (no longer made)?
A search of “Genicook” on amazon brings up a set of nine containers with lids that appears to include most of these sizes. Reviews are mostly good. Meh has a better deal with this set
@allem@jerirothe@jmbunkin@therealjrn they probably want a 9x9 or 9x13 standard measure since these are oven safe glass and the large ones could double as casserole dishes. Not just storage. That might have tempted me
@mediocrebot wait wait wait. I’m allergic to perfume. And wisteria. How the hell is this supposed to be watery-playful-nest? Shouldn’t you show a kelp bed with a cute little otter in it? I feel gypped.
The time to buy this kinda stuff and in its tried and true major brand format was during the holiday season where 20+ piece sets were at a similar or better price point. Is “Genicook” the sister company to the makers of the “B’Pods+ Echo” wireless earbuds Meh was pawning a day or so ago?
Mine looked like the box had been through the wringer. Note from USPS saying it wasn’t closed and the box was a damaged when they received it, but the set themselves was fine.
Mine arrived this week in great condition. The glass is thick, the rubber seals lush and pliant, the shapes pleasantly symmetrical.
Slightly disconcerting that a brand doesn’t appear anywhere on the container or lid. My mama always taught me that if a company ain’t got the pride to label their stuff, it ain’t worth a spit. Mama may be wrong in this one case, we’ll see.
Costco’s regular price for Pyrex is $35 for 9 of them. Their coupon book puts them up for less regularly, like $26 maybe, so this is a decent deal for a Pyrex knockoff. Plus I suppose don’t need 9 of them. Not that Pyrex is anything special, I had a baking dish explode in our kitchen, 350° glass shards everywhere. Luckily no injuries.
At least these are smaller when they explode.
/buy
@unksol I had a home cured beef roast (corned) wrapped in foil in the dish at 350°. I took it out & had it almost over the table about to set it on hot pads when it exploded. The liquid in the foil sloshed a bit & likely caused the temp change. Crazy event, hot glass everywhere!
@steeltoesenator Also, that one clearly looks like a cheaply-marketed Chinese product, since they use “tupperware” as a description of the product though of course it’s not. (is the Tupperware company still around?). I’m not sure where the stuff we bought today is made, but from the references it does appear to at least be backed by something other than a low-budget Amazon distributor of Chinese products
(there are a huge amount of cheap Chinese products that now show up near the top by default in Amazon’s pages. They must be paying hefty ad promotion premiums for Amazon to push the low-end crap while you are searching for higher-quality merchandise. For example I was searching for a name-brand of GFCI, and mixed in with it was something that was written to look almost the same description, but with no product name, at a startlingly good price. Then I realized it was a no-name Chinese clone of the product I was searching for (which no doubt was made in China also, but backed a manufacturer reputation). I do wish Amazon wouldn’t push the generic Chinese products so blatantly but I guess it’s more $$ for Bezo$.

Mom did not get the reference. Dad remembered.
@msayler @pmarin “Convoy” first hit number 1 on January 10th, 1976. Could be why.
@pmarin @unksol available on Amazon Prime music- Road Music: 20 Truckin’ Tunes. One of our favorite albums as kids.

wait… I’m NOT supposed to let the lids melt over my food in the oven? how the hell else will I get that wonderful plastic taste?
@carl669 Confetti?

@UncleVinny that’s for amateurs. it’s takes talent to melt plastic lids just right and not burn them

@mbberman Ditto for me. Mine weren’t wrapped in any protection so not really surprising…
@mbberman @patentdude you contact support. Go to the top of the page, look under “what is meh?” and you will see “support”.
@mbberman same for me. I contacted support. Waiting on a response, I know it’s the weekend.
@mbberman @whiskeyish Ditto for me. I sent them a note on Friday and just waiting on a response. Would like to know what to do with the box of broken glass as my wife REALLY would like to get rid of it one way or another.
@mbberman @patentdude @whiskeyish Recycle it?
@patentdude They don’t have you send it back. If you are worried take some photos.
Do these nest well for storage?
@mike808 They are described as “nestable” and I doubt they’ll work with your IOT thermostat, so probably yes. May want to ask, “Hey Google!” just to be sure though.
@ciabelle @mike808 Obviously one set nests cause each is smaller. I highly doubt multiple sets do which is the important part

@phendrick It appears they are made of Borosilicate glass. I believe old school Pyrex was made with the same thing.
You can still purchase the original style of Pyrex from the UK. Check Amazon UK.
If you shop in second hand stores, look for Pyrex items with “PYREX” written in all caps. Hard to find, but worth the hunt.

Nice try. Awesome, right @mediocrebot ?
POPSOCKETS! SPA KITS! POLLY POCKETS! AWESOME!
Too much work to share the sizes on these?
@allem Too much trouble to read the specs?
@allem @therealjrn I assume they want the dimensions not the capacity
@allem @jmbunkin They can probably just use a little common sense combined with some simple geometry and algebra.
Or is that too much work?
@allem @jmbunkin @therealjrn I don’t think it’s possible to get the exact dimensions simply by knowing the capacity
@allem @therealjrn Doctor “How much do you weigh jmbunkin?”
jmbunkin “Doctor I wear 34 x 32 pants figure it out !”
@allem @jerirothe @jmbunkin @therealjrn they probably want a 9x9 or 9x13 standard measure since these are oven safe glass and the large ones could double as casserole dishes. Not just storage. That might have tempted me

This might have been a better or at least more direct comparison: $32 for 18 Piece Glass Food Storage Containers with Lids, Glass Meal Prep Containers, Glass Containers for Food Storage with Lids, BPA Free & FDA Approved & Leak Proof (9 lids & 9 Containers) by Genicook per my search.

@longtones Looks like you’re not VMP. You’re a mehmber. It’s an older grandfathered membership.
@sammydog01 Thanks for the explanation. Yeah, I got my terminology mixed up.
Mine also arrived partially broken. Still waiting for a response.
@benj … and still waiting…
@benj make sure to check any spam/promo/update/whatever folders in your email
@Ignorant Checked and no reply there either. Thanks for the suggestion tho.
@benj Have also sent a 2nd request for some help with this.

Mine looked like the box had been through the wringer. Note from USPS saying it wasn’t closed and the box was a damaged when they received it, but the set themselves was fine.
@kalma That’s interesting. It belies common sense but maybe because the box was damaged subsequent handlers didn’t drop-kick it so much.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Obviously rapid temp change should be avoided

@Joedetroit well if it just happened in open air I’d guess just a fluke/flawed dish.
Might be higher chances of that depending on the company quality assurance measures. I’ve never had a Pyrex or Corning Ware break.
But these are probably fine as long as you don’t shock them either
I want 'em. Becuz.

We use these for refrigerator storage. The glasses thick, the rubber seals easily, and the shapes are symmetrical. Overall pleased.
The glass parts are supposed to be microwave safe. They’re not. Cracked like an egg.
