Haters gonna hate. GBBO (or US version GBBS) is a good show made great because they are supportive of each other, instead of a bunch of cutthroats like you see on most competitions (ANW is another good made great show because it also bucks seeing how low it can make people stoop).
I don’t know that I have a favorite week. I just like seeing the different things they come up with. Lots of stuff I’ve never heard of. I love it when they have to make something they’ve never heard of and they seem so confused. The contestants seem like good people without the egos that I see on a lot of US cooking/baking shows. They can laugh at themselves, I watch Nailed It for the same reason. My son wants me to go on Nailed It. I’m not sure if I should be offended by that of not though. He thinks I’d win at least.
I don’t think I could choose a favorite, other than the finale, which is always spectacular. I’m an amateur (very amateur) baker, and the UK is my favorite place on earth, so GBBO is my idea of heaven.
Chocolate or patisserie week. I ran a small chocolatier in the pearl in Portland before having kids. It’s such a fantastic medium. It’s closely followed by pies and bread week. Love some GBBS!
i love to cook and i like shows about savory food. but i don’t like watching dessert shows. i can’t explain it but it just doesn’t interest me at all. i’d say it was maybe because i’m unlikely to cook them myself, but i’m not cooking the bulk of what i watch on top chef either. so yeah, no interest in either GBB series.
@jerk_nugget It’s not at all a dessert show. They make a lot of savory things. Some seem to be very British dishes. There may be bagels, meat pies and sausage rolls and stuff like that. It’s not like watching Cake Boss where it’s 95% cake.
They certainly do some desserts and some sweet items. I like the variety of items, especially since some of the things I’ve never even heard of. Most of the Food Network baking shows are more focused on the look, and GBBO is really into taste.
@remo28 i don’t dispute the quality or integrity of the show and its contestants, and savory items and even challenges do appear, which is cool. but it is overwhelmingly desserts & sweet dishes. it’s not all cakes, sure, but it’s heavily focused on sweets or sweet versions of things, and several episodes don’t have anything savory at all. (when it took off here and people started going nuts for it, i wanted to see what it was so i looked it up on wikipedia.) the great american baking show was almost entirely sweets.
that said, i’d definitely sooner watch GBBO/GBBS than any US based cake competition show (aka dueling hideous fondant disasters - ugh) that’s for sure! (AND i would happily eat anything baked on either GBB too XD no doubt it nearly all tastes dang good.)

British are pretty limited in which animals they’ll eat. The French will experiment eating anything that moves.
