One of my four tuners on my DVR is always on Food Network and another is always on Cooking Channel. People make fun of me about this and I’m OK with that.
@travo That show got me in to food and cooking, I recognized Marc Summers from Double Dare and thought it was cool he was showing me how they made Lemonheads.
@Tiamat114 The new reboot of the American series (that I’m pretty sure has been cancelled) was a lot of fun. I’ve had withdrawal since then so I’m catching up on all the Japanese episodes I never saw back then.
I would say I enjoy all of those, but I really like Beat Bobby Flay because one of two things happen:
Bobby wins by cooking something he has possibly never made before, or
Some random person beats Bobby Flay in a cooking contest, which is the equivalent of beating Ken Griffey Jr in a Home Run Derby. It’s feel-good either way!
Also I appreciate that no one’s making fun of my dude Guy Fieri, yes he’s a 50 year old man with frosted tips, but he’s genuine and does a lot of good things for people.
@cpierce I liked the Throwdown with Bobby Flay series better.
The only problem I have with Fieri is that his Diners Drive-Ins and Dives series was the death knell for Alton Brown’s Feasting on Asphalt special series (Alton stated that at some point). Sucked out all the oxygen for road shows on the network.
@jerk_nugget sidenote i really liked the good eats reloaded episodes, but i’m really glad the new ones will be on food network and not the cooking channel. found out the hard way that our cable company (who has a monopoly in our area) doesn’t even offer the HD version of the channel?? so i ended up having to download the episodes.
@jerk_nugget That’s kinda why I didn’t mention her either… when she has guest… shudder. Everything changes. For yrs (have no idea where it stands now) she actually had the most creds of them all.
@lseeber i like jeffrey, and i can kind of deal with her gay bffs. but anyone else…just goes right down from there, not even on a slope. the worst was when she was cooking for kids, and she made this chocolate cake and she was like, now we’re gonna decorate with candy, what kid wouldn’t love that? and i’m like, okay, good, good, this might not be so bad…
and god dammit if she didn’t go down to some ritzy hamptons ~candy shoppe~ and pick out good n’ plentys (licorice candy, “ooh, love these”) and fuckin jordan almonds! “what kid wouldn’t love this?” well, i can think of several hundred thousand…then she walks by several bins of actual candy kids would want saying “nope, nope, nope” and then she picks out four rolls of necco wafers.
i think she also made pizza that episode, but it was white pizza with garlic oil and lots of fresh arugula lol.
@jerk_nugget Oh yeah… Jeffry doesn’t bother me, it’s her when she’s having someone there. lol… yeah, I don’t know many kids that would think that was grand.
@lseeber wow, thanks (I think) for bringing her up. just shot the whole morning watching Liziqi videos. I have to go address my feelings of inadequacy by building a silkworm farm in the back yard …
@stolicat lol… You’re welcome! Her videos are absolutely compelling, relaxing, engrossing. And she really does do all that herself. She had a rough childhood then went to be with grandma and do the farm stuff. She has so many viewers now she’s got to be making some serious $$ now. No telling how many times I’ve watched her vids now.

Guy Fieri, Sammy Hagar and a wicked sweet '69 Camaro convertible were photographed outside a “diner” called In A Pickle, which was closed for a couple of days while the show filmed there.
I put “diner” in quotes because they’re more like a restaurant that sells slightly fancied up diner foods during diner hours (they close at 3pm)…
When I learned what “Triple D” stood for, I wondered why they would go to a kinda-sorta-‘nouveau’ diner (whose food is kinda meh) and not the classic train car diner (with simpler but better diner food) in the next town over.

Anyway, I don’t know if Sammy Hagar is a regular on any of Fieri’s shows, but I assume the fact that he’s (Fieri) opening some kind of tequila themed restaurant in Boston has something to do with Hagar and his tequila.

@DennisG2014@frisbelly they’re not all bad. I’m going to my favorite DDD place next week thanks to a surprise work trip. Texas Pride BBQ is legit AF, but I go there despite it’s being featured by Guy Fieri rather than because of it.
@simssj he was charged with indecent assault and battery and is still going through court. Somehow I doubt it’s appropriate for him to be on food Network right now.
I occasionally watch a few of the food shows on Travel Channel (Delicious Destinations, Food Paradise, Man v Food), but not any of them on the Food Network. I admit I have pretty simple tastes, and the Travel Channel seem to focus more on the type of unpretentious fare I prefer.
Any time I have watched Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, none of the places were either a diner, drive-in, or a dive. It seems to always be a pretentious joint serving trendy frou-frou dishes.
@DrWorm maybe, but it turned me on to Tampa Bay Brewing Company and their delicious Guiness shepherd’s pie. Not a beer drinker so this place was never on my radar before I saw it on DDD .

@qwerty82 The Kitchen didn’t make my top two but it is an excellent show, and likely the best of the current crop.
And we never miss the Halloween and Holiday Baking and other championships…
I find the lack of ‘Good Eats’ disturbing… but par for the course with the poll department.

It’s an old one, but Unwrapped. Seeing Nickelodeon’s Marc Summers tour the manufacture of food made for really good television.
