Week 2 is here.

You may have noticed a strange poll on the site last Thursday:

Fantasy MuskBall: Will Tesla stock close higher or lower tomorrow (Friday) than today?

This was the launch of our dumbest community event to date: Fantasy MuskBall. This 8-week game combines the thrill of fantasy sports with the unexplainable popularity of mogul/alien Elon Musk. How does it work?

  • Each Thursday we’ll post a poll question that asks you to predict something about Elon Musk (e.g. in Week 1, the behavior of Tesla stock).
  • Once the outcome is determined, we’ll award MuskPoints to those who predicted accurately (e.g. in Week 1, those who predicted “Lower” for Tesla stock).
  • The number of MuskPoints awarded is inversely proportional to the number of votes for that option. That is, popular options receive fewer points and unpopular options receive more points. Specifically, M = (1-c) * 100 where “M" is MuskPoints awarded and “c” is the % of votes for the correct option. (In Week 1, 44.2% of y’all voted for the correct “Lower,” so M = (1-.442) * 100 = 56).
  • Whoever has the most MuskPoints at the end of the 8 weeks WINS … something.

I’ll keep track of MuskPoints in a Google Sheet or something, but for now I’ve posted the users who guessed correctly last week and earned 56 MuskPoints at the bottom of this post (excluding those who disabled their public profile).
