I bought one of these from meh 3.5 years ago (which seems impossibly long ) and it rules. I use it almost every day to spot clean around the litter box and around the kitchen.
I got an older model of these in a Fuko 2 years ago. It arrived non-functional. Disassembly revealed a wire had frayed in half in the stick. I repaired the wire and I’ve been happily sucking for 2 years since.
It works great for most tasks, just don’t expect it to do much on any carpet thicker than 1/4”. But it’s great on floors and has two power settings. The charging base is super convenient. Mine has an LED on the sucker head that helps in low light.
So, mine was totally worth $5. YMMV, but overall I think it’d be a good buy if you need something like this.

@DaveInSoCal Yeh true like SoCal Politics. The Blue promises to do a better job than the Red yet claims much of the Dirt is not really a problem and refuses to actually do anything. The Red not only cleans up the dirt but ends up sucking up things you wish it hadn’t. Most SoCal people end up buying the Blue as they really don’t have any desire to do menial tasks like housecleaning themselves.
@funco49@Stallion the Dyson may cost more, but at least it works as a vacuum. These are commonly used as trade-ins for other brands, as they can be bought for as little as $20 on clearance.
@mfladd@funco49 I bought my Dyson refurbished, so technically could have bought 3 of these. I still GUARANTEE the Dyson could run laps around this thing, and the battery will last longer. The Dyson changed the way we vacuum in our house. We tried a few different cordless vacuums before the Dyson and they were a waste of time once we got the Dyson. Then again for someone who is cheap, this fits the bill and will do at least 1/2 the job the Dyson does.

@fastharry Because these are refurbs, you wouldn’t be able to go through manufacturer’s warranty anyway, just the 90 day Mediocre. Meh won’t repair but they’ll replace or refund in that period and customer service has never given me a problem in the handful of times I’ve dealt with them.
I’ve been wanting a handheld for upholstery - getting extra dust, dirt, and human hair (no pets) out of my fabric sofa and memory foam mattress. Being able to also use it as a standard vacuum on hardwood sounds appealing, for slightly less than the ‘budget pick’ on the Wirecutter for handheld vaccuums. Looks like genuine replacement filters are available at $10 a pop on Amazon too, and slightly more on Newegg through a third party vendor if you don’t want to give Amazon money like I do.
So fine. Please give me a red one if you can, Meh. (I may or may not be willing to trade a blue one for a red one…)

I have the earlier NiCd version of this vac (from a prior meh deal) and actually really enjoy it. I mostly pop out the handheld vac for couch cleans after the kids spill cheerios all over the place. The handling of the upright is very fluid and this easily gets under couches, beds, bureaus, etc… as long as you have the horizontal clearance to drop it down parallel to the floor. The dock is also very small but sturdy so (and maybe i’m slowly killing it’s battery life) I keep it plugged in and on the charger when not in use.
@SaintO I also had the NiCd version of it and the only real problem was that the battery didn’t last very long. I got the smaller Dyson (V8?) and that’s been wonderful… not sure I realized this was a different battery chemistry when I saw it early this morning, or I might have splurged for one for my kids to use at times (because they’re small enough that the Dyson is not manageable all the time)
We have the (almost) exact model pictured and it’s been running great for the last 5 or 6 years. Ours appears to be one revision earlier perhaps? The lettering on ours is slightly different, it states 18v right on the front, and has an opaque, rather than clear window on the bottom. Otherwise identical.
Doesn’t hold as much of a charge as it used to, but no complaints otherwise. Tempted to pick one up as a backup, but the 2 models are indeed different (I believe the blue one was a 14v, I remember they were side-by-side at Sears when we bought it). But since there’s no guarantee of receiving the better one, I can’t do it.
Props to Meh for incorporating the Electrolux logo in the Meh face of the day though
PS: This review mentions there were once 13 models in their line-up. No idea about the rest but apparently there was once a purple and gold version as well.

How do we know that the bats are actually lithium? There’s nothing in the manual that actually says. The only place the word lithium appears is a part of the model name on the front cover. By some of the reviews, the battery may not actually be lithium at all.
I know this is completely naive of me, but my parents’ Electrolux from 30 years ago is still working.
Since most of our downstairs is hardwood or tile, this is a pretty easy decision.
Protip:. The red one is more romantic than the blue for Valentine’s day.

I have one of these, it’s good enough for anything that isn’t carpet. Wish I could’ve gotten mine for $50.

we stopped selling these in our vacuum stores a year ago. Not one lasted more than a year…and Eureka warranty service is abysmal to deal with.

These are made by Electrolux…AFAIK, they are completely different companies.

@moonhat I have an earlier edition of this, and it’s my daily workhorse. Four cats, you see. I also have a Dyson, for serious deep cleaning.

@gspitman when I bought one a long time ago the screw was rattling around in the box separately.

Went to Electrolux for a digital manual - model REL1018A - not an Electrolux model # !?! Always liked my Dyson cordless, this is close.
@planesman - “R” in REL1… must mean refurbished. Got PDF of manual w/ EL1018A.
So far so good! Works well to go around and pick small bits and dust around the house and get the pet hair out of nooks!
