Went to a high school softball tournament today. I thought we were only staying for the first 2 games. Instead we stayed for all 4. (Our girls played 3 of the 4 games.) We were in the shade for the first 2 games but I ended up fried from the last 2. Our girls wore new uniform shirts honoring the coach’s wife’s (my aunt) fight against cancer. Neither my aunt nor uncle knew the team was planning this. We won all our games. Also the girls in the dugout sang the Veggie Tales theme song during our at-bat during what ended up being the last inning of the final game. (We won it 10-0 in 6 innings.) So it was a mostly good day despite looking and feeling like a lobster.
@tinamarie1974 I was in the shade of a tree the 1st 2 games. The sun inconsiderately moved. I don’t think an umbrella would have prevented all of the sunburn but it likely would have pissed some people off because it would have blocked the view of the field. Sunscreen would have worked best although part of my sunburn is in an area I can’t reach. Leaving after the 1st 2 games would have also worked but I wasn’t the driver.
@therealjrn@tinamarie1974 Know what you mean… I came back from Daughter’s wedding and someone hacked mine. Got into an acct and charged stuff… fortunately, they suspected it was fraud and cancelled but had to wait a few days to get the grand back. But the really bad part was…their botty thing signed my email up for almost 1700 newsletters around the globe! ugh! I think I’ve got most of it taken care of but I’m still unsubscribing from many every. single. day. And, unfortunately, half are foreign and I have to paste part into the translator to find where the unsubscribe link is. So on your knees goat! The top mistress is casting blame!
@cinoclav 7AM in my city as well. Usually it’s the landscape maintenance guys running those 190db leaf blowers at 6AM. Calling the police on the landscapers nets a 2 hour wait for an officer to respond. By that time the landscapers are long gone. I could have called about the roofers… I’m sure they’ll be there all day. But by the time an officer responded I would be leaving for work anyway.
Hopefully they’ll be done with all the pounding today and I won’t have to listen to it again tomorrow morning. Typically they’ll knock out a shingle roof in one day. Well, two. One day to strip, one day to shingle.
My streets department fired up the pile-driver at 7am to break up the concrete to replace the street. Whoomp! Whoomp! Whoomp! Cats freaked out at the mini-earthquakes. Then the scraping of the bucket loader to load the chunks into big dump trucks. At least they didn’t start during the school year since what they’re replacing is on the bus route.
Unblame… Driving to Houston I was listening to public radio and some guy (who wrote some book about politics) was talking about the GOP and the bible. He said what was going on with the GOP right now was like the bible, AKA, “God created man and woman and then lost control of the situation”. The bible thing seriously cracked me up which I needed (always stressful going to a cancer CT scan apt- blame about that).
@tinamarie1974@moonhat Thanks. I get the results Thursday (having the usual anxiety reaction to waiting since sometimes the news is OK and sometimes not so much so). Have a splitting headache from the contrast fluid. I don’t know what was different this time but I felt like crap after the heat and tight throat feeling went away (that part is normal for this stuff, the continuing bit isn’t).
On the up side there is a Trader’s Joe and Ikea in town which I will visit before I drive home. Oh and a whole earth catalog store too. Except at Trader’s Joe not buying, but I like to look.
@f00l@moonhat@tinamarie1974 It’s called the Whole Earth Provisions. Camping stuff plus other stuff. Next to the container store near the Galleria in Houston. Didn’t mean to type catalog (especially since they don’t even sell stuff on line).
@moonhat@tinamarie1974 Well it was a mixed review. Follicular non-hodgkin’s in my liver and some abdominal nodes. Not big enough to do anything about at this point in time. With luck they might shrink/go away since this crap waxes and wanes all by itself (done that rodeo before). So overall the news wasn’t all that bad.
@f00l@Kidsandliz@moonhat@tinamarie1974 The Whole Earth Catalog! I was rummaging through some boxes and came across my copy. It was fun thumbing through the odd articles and items. Oddly enough… There were a couple of approximately 50 year old “leaves” that were carefully pressed between a few of the pages.
hmmm… I must have been a radical back then… lol
