@hchavers I bring animals home too. Five weeks ago, my son took my pup to get her stitches out. He came home and told me they had three orphaned grey tabbies, they were bottle-feeding. I pointed to the door,he went and got them. They are super kitties! One boy, Ren(lotus in Japanese), Rose and Lily. Chose a flower theme since I love flowers about as much as I love animals!
They are bigger than this now, got shots yesterday.
@duodec
Sorry, I am a bit of a renegade! Couldn’t help showing my sweeties!
Need a cat thread, I have four more!
That is neat about the quilt! It was my mother’s. She bought it from a quilter at an arts and crafts festival.
I miss my Rottweiler terribly, but after my husband had to carry him up and down the back stairs to go out after he got bone cancer (and then his chocolate lab, a year later), we decided against another dog.
Three months later, we got Wembly. Another year and we got Rutger. Eighteen and eight pounds, respectively.
@LinnE@ruouttaurmind One of the things that is best in life, is seeing your dog look up at you when you come home and open the door, and you see that look because something amazing just did!
@djslack@InnocuousFarmer Those are Tibetan Mastiffs. I don’t think they look like bears, the muzzle is all wrong and the difference in coat texture is tremendous. Most obviously, Tibetan Madtiffs have a long, fluffy tail. Bears have stub tails.
Have never had a dog and likely never will- just not for me. But, literally any dog, or any other animal really, that gives me the “hey why don’t cha come over here n’ pet me” look is gettin’ at the very least some neck scratches.
My favorite dogs are labs, have two.Have had five before. My labs are Frazier(rescue) choc and my pup, Black, Allie. I bought her for myself on my birthday.
I also have Dusty, mutt, from uncle who could not care for him, Beau, dropped off baglehound and pug Zoe from my mother, when she should not have gotten her anyway, ill.
@Calabama - i have a beagle hound from a rescue, female, zoe. medium size, 25 lbs, a real laid back, smart, chilling dog, that likes to walk and run with the big dogs.
@tohar1 Our middle dog bears some resemblance to her. I’ve been calling her blackmouth cur and pit mix but maybe she has some Puggle in her–she was a rescue literally found in the street eating garbage at 8 weeks old. She also loves to lay on me like that, except closer so she can lick my face into submission. Here she is both attentive and with her sisters lounging.
Cockapoo. Smart, friendly, medium size, great family dog, no typical health issues as they age, and completely shed free (people shed more). They look the way dogs are supposed to look. Only downside is they need to be groomed regularly.
@RedOak Almost my favorite name for a dog. My actual favorite? Shihtzapoo. I kid you not. My mother in law has one! I have to suppress my inner 8 year old every time she says it. /giggle Every time I go over there I ask her what kind of dog it is!
I like Newfies, but in general, I prefer smaller dogs as they are easy to control, cost less, and require less food. Plus, you get a chill micro-mutt, and you can hold a pair of legs in each hand as they yip, and pretend they are some sort of sonic blaster Tommy gun. Fun stuff. Try that with a cat, and you lose a hand.
I’m definitely Team Big Dog, though small dogs are cool, too. I haven’t owned a small dog since I was a kid though. Right now we have an Irish Wolfhound/Golden Retriever cross that we got as a puppy and a seven year old bearded mutt that we rescued a few months ago. Eventually we’d like to have full Irish Wolfhounds. Both Stanley and Torben think they’re lap dogs and that they can both fit at the same time.
With my daughter after a house full of boys wore them out this weekend.
Torben likes to pretend he’s majestic in photos, but he’s really just a big derp of a dog.
@PurplePawprints Yeah, my guys toggle between majestic and goofy. I’ve had three full Irish Wolfhounds and Zephyr’s half IW. Their gentle, amused personalities are very charming and easy to love. But Danes own my heart.
@PurplePawprints I’ve been lucky with danes, other than losing one young fence jumper to a car. Four lived from 11.5 to 13.5 years, and I lost Simba to stomach cancer at 10.5. Similarly, I lost an IW in puppyhood to bloat, one at 7 to chronic kidney disease and the third lived to 11. My Borzoi also lived to 11. 7 out of 10 of my giant breed babies so far have lived well past 10, when the average lifespan is 6-10.
@moondrake Oh wow, you do have a good track record for longevity with your giants. That’s awesome. There’s never enough time with them, but longer is always better.
I’m more of a cat person, but we wound up adopting a dog to protect our chickens - a job he does admirably. He’s an AmStaff-Boxer mix, and he definitely got the best of both. I thought he was pretty big until out neighbors got one that’s part Black Lab and part Clydesdale.
I generally prefer bigger dogs, because they tend to be more relaxed. And Pits are definitely growing on me.
@cranky1950 I love border collies,Bonnie, my 16 year old died last June. She should have been on a farm. Her job was to herd the other dogs while they were running around. Sweetest nature.
@PlacidPenguin Puppies aren’t for everyone. I’ve always liked dogs, but never would have gotten one if the exSO didn’t insist. “For the kids” she would say. She was super pissed when both dogs bonded with me and pretty much ignored her. Especially insulting when one of the dogs was a gift to her from her sis.
@PlacidPenguin She emptied my bank account, stole my car and my credit cards, but left that silly dog. Debts can be paid, cars replaced, but really awesome dogs that adore you are priceless. I got the best end of that deal.
My doggo is a smallish black lab mix so right on the border between medium and large. I prefer chill dogs in general, which usually means large, but not always.
Dog preference: Yes.
@shahnm Perfect answer. You get a Fuko
@cardiganb Why thank you!
Any kind of a lab.
Chocolate lab, black lab
Physics lab, chemistry lab
It’s all good
@mehcuda67
@mehcuda67 Looks a little like my yellow lab broke into a meth lab.
@ruouttaurmind
You know, they say that a person’s dog says a lot about them…
@ruouttaurmind Adding yellow lab to my list!
Mustard only. Extra fries.
Bassets are the best!
@clonetek Bassett puppies especially.
Whatever my wife picks, that she will call her Fur Baby.
If Momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.
@hchavers YOU are the perfect hubby! I can’t talk mine into a dog
@hchavers @moonhat My wife stopped asking. I just suddenly have another dog when I get home.
@hchavers @liljackill that’s hilarious. I think I love your wife!
@hchavers I bring animals home too. Five weeks ago, my son took my pup to get her stitches out. He came home and told me they had three orphaned grey tabbies, they were bottle-feeding. @Calabama Adorbs!
@Calabama @hchavers oh my oh my oh my, that’s a threesome of cute right there
@Calabama @hchavers Even though you just couldn’t resist bringing cats into a dog topic, I just had to say
OMG we have that exact same bedspread/comforter!
@duodec
Sorry, I am a bit of a renegade! Couldn’t help showing my sweeties!

Got a rough collie, a blackmouth cur/pit mix, and a shihtzu/pomeranian mix, so I guess my answer should just be “yes”.
We also decorate with fur.
@djslack
Chickens
/giphy chicken
Give me a pitbull or american bulldog anyday
Chili dogs. (dopey chill dogs was somewhat close)
Big doggies that are afraid of cats.

@LinnE Don’t you love it when they look at you like they’re expecting something amazing to happen?
Or maybe they’re just angling for a treat.
@LinnE @ruouttaurmind One of the things that is best in life, is seeing your dog look up at you when you come home and open the door, and you see that look because something amazing just did!
/image huge dog like bear
@InnocuousFarmer I want to call bs on this but it’s on a lot of news sites: http://people.com/pets/pet-dog-is-bear-not-tibetan-mastiff/
@djslack @InnocuousFarmer Those are Tibetan Mastiffs. I don’t think they look like bears, the muzzle is all wrong and the difference in coat texture is tremendous. Most obviously, Tibetan Madtiffs have a long, fluffy tail. Bears have stub tails.
@djslack @moondrake impossible to distinguish!
Those weren’t the exact breed I was thinking of… probably, but I didn’t want to change the image.
Have never had a dog and likely never will- just not for me. But, literally any dog, or any other animal really, that gives me the “hey why don’t cha come over here n’ pet me” look is gettin’ at the very least some neck scratches.
Puppy love…

Medium puppers for me! Current pup that chose me is a Puggle, and she’s 37# of AWESOME!!!
@tohar1 Our middle dog bears some resemblance to her. German Shepherd. Duh.
@llangley GSDs - the only REAL Dogs.
Irk-dog:
@bramby2 I see you need to keep him on a short leash.
Cockapoo. Smart, friendly, medium size, great family dog, no typical health issues as they age, and completely shed free (people shed more). They look the way dogs are supposed to look. Only downside is they need to be groomed regularly.

@jelliott04 haha, that mix name alone would be a big plus!
I like Newfies, but in general, I prefer smaller dogs as they are easy to control, cost less, and require less food. @moondrake They are beautiful. I just wish the giants had longer lifespans. It’s the only drawback, honestly.
@PurplePawprints they are adorable!!
@PurplePawprints I’ve been lucky with danes, other than losing one young fence jumper to a car. Four lived from 11.5 to 13.5 years, and I lost Simba to stomach cancer at 10.5. Mine.
Usually prefer bigger dogs. Not really into tiny dogs. My mom had a 25 lb mutt that I adored, but I helped raise her, so I think I’m biased.
@f00l here’s some spring wildflower weeds.
Chill Mutts from the shelter.
We moved from Shih-tzu’s to a Havanese and we’re not going back. Sweet temper, funny personality and smart (sometimes to a fault). Cody:
@ACraigL aww look at that face!! Too sweet
Rescue. Best pets ever.
Just Right dogs
For the time being its Lab - Dachshund mix.

American Eskimo Dogs
border collies Aussie shepherds or catahoula cow dogs
hard to live with a stupid dog after having one of these.
@cranky1950 I love border collies,Bonnie, my 16 year old died last June. She should have been on a farm. Her job was to herd the other dogs while they were running around. Sweetest nature.
Why in the world isn’t there an ALL dog option??? Big, small, short or tall, I gotta say I love them all!
I didn’t want to create a new topic for this, so I’m tagging along on this one.
You know how sometimes your dog will look at you just so, and remind you why you keep them around in the first place?
@ruouttaurmind happens at least once a day
@ruouttaurmind
No I don’t.
I have never had a dog. (Though I’m open to getting a dog plushie.)
@PlacidPenguin Puppies aren’t for everyone. I’ve always liked dogs, but never would have gotten one if the exSO didn’t insist. “For the kids” she would say. Chili dogs and corn dogs. Also any hot dog cooked over a campfire. Though I selected “Cats” on the poll.
I’m a fan of big ol’ doggos and also Updog.
Our kids have the dogs. When we want fur love, we visit. We like to travel too much to have pets of our own.
My doggo is a smallish black lab mix so right on the border between medium and large. I prefer chill dogs in general, which usually means large, but not always.
My favorite kind of dog is one covered in feathers
/image macaw
The Irish wolfhounds always look so dang sweet
/image Irish wolfhound
We need Chevy & Jetta pictures for this thread @daveinwarsh
@therealjrn Chevy: The stare-down. Feed me. Now.
And Jetta, of course. They are never more than 10’ apart.
@therealjrn Here, Chevy and Jetta fight over a fresh kill. The fox never had a chance. RIP fox.
@daveinwarsh @therealjrn
DAMN YOU DAVE! But they saved your hens, so.
Have a safe and fun trip down south, y’all are welcome here, any ole time!
Balloon dogs are the best. Low maintenance, usually very quiet, no shedding
As much as I absolutely love my guy’s bull dog, I’m a cat person. I swear cats can smell it on me. They know I want to play with them.
Fewer dogs than I already have…
Pug Lyfe
I was a cat person until the allergies kicked in. Now I’m a doodle person.
Bossy little devil, though!
Best kinda dog is a cat!
Bird-getting sporters
