Dogs do have to use a different kind of toothpaste due to some of the sweetening and other ingredients that are added in human toothpaste. Some of which can be toxic or even lethal. All pet stores I have shopped at have several different types:
After taking my dog to the vet for a teeth cleaning and picking him afterwards with all his upper teeth gone, I have decided to 1) get a different vet; 2) ask more questions 3) brush all my dog’s teeth starting now and 4) invest in some good chew toys that clean their teeth while they are chomping. And they are correct up above, our toothpaste is NOT for Fidos. Use the doggy toothbrushes and toothpaste and your dogs can keep their teeth and you don’t have to clean up vomit after they use our human stuff.
My guess is that sticking a loud vibrating toothbrush in your dog’s mouth would scare the crap out of them. Possibly literally. Regular toothbrushes just annoy them.

I can say that we have beef flavored toothpaste from our vet & my pooch doesn’t mind at all.
