@Ignorant LOL… That’s funny!
I’ve never hung out in a McD’s long enough to listen to their musical selections. It’s usually when I’m traveling, I run in to pee and keep going…
@ChadP I worked at a Hallmark card store. During Christmas we had three Christmas c.d.s. to choose from. Between that, the ornaments that played music, and the teddy bears that sang the same 30 second clip whenever pushed… I wanted to stick something up my nose and scramble my brains.
@RiotDemon The worst part about muzak was working in a store that had a buffer that it would save like the last 30 minutes of music so it would still have something to play in the event of bad weather. This was especially bad during the holidays when bad weather would block the signal and you’d get the hear the same xmas songs every 30 minutes. All. Day. Long.
@medz ours always just went dead silent. The worst was on American holidays where they’d switch to the patriotic channel… Think civil war marching music and country songs. There was something wrong with the station so it’d skip (like a bad CD) the entire day. This happened three holidays before they finally fixed it.
@RiotDemon ours occasionally did that. Always felt strange with no background noise… Like shopping in a library. Like when the power goes out at the house. Too quiet.
@djslack yeah. If you refresh it every 25-30 minutes for 8 hours, you can find all the songs they play.
Then @ignoramus can be perpetually in McDonald’s.
@RiotDemon Im currently an employee at McDonalds and no, we dont use mood music, Every store is connected to the head of office of which ever country your in. The music is streamed from there. We dont have a radio station or a spotify playlist of the songs we use.
@RiotDemon Could be some franchisees use the muzak and corporate stores use the head office selection? Or, maybe corporate uses muzak but doesn’t call it that. When I worked at McDonald’s back in the day, my trainer called the microwave a “Q Oven” When I challenged her she said it was a new, proprietary technology. She was 100% convinced.
@RiotDemon I’m the assistant manager at a McDonald’s and our store dropped Muzak a couple of years ago. We’ve got a locked down SiriusXM receiver that only gets three of the stations. So we pretty much just leave it on Sirius Hits 1.
@f00l There’s an idea. Apple has signed the EO saying everyone must switch to Bluetooth headphones. Now it will be that much easier for elevators (etc.) to hijack your stream and play the music/Muzak/subliminals you should be listening to.
@walarney I don’t remember the last elevator I was in.
I do remember the elevator I got stuck in for twenty minutes. The hotel gave us a free night worth around $120. Pretty worth it, except my mom was about to have a panic attack. Everyone was ok and we saved money on our trip, so yay.
@walarney I was in an elevator that had music just recently! It was comical. Definitely of the schmaltz variety. There were a few passengers in there with me, and we had time to remark on how rare that is these days.
@walarney Can’t remember the last time I was in an elevator that played music, but I was in one recently with a screen that just played ads. No thanks.
You’d need one of these.

@Ignorant What is this called anyway so I can buy one on-line.
@mvpvipsexy be honest with me, are you going to spam us pretty soon?
I recommend you ask @Wendys on twitter and then post back with their reply…
Why?
Back when I was working at McDonalds 16 years ago it was a CD that repeated over and over and over again. I hated that.

They use Mood Music (formerly Muzak) which companies have to pay for.
Here’s what’s currently playing:

It ought to be doable to scrape this information and build a Spotify playlist or something to simulate being in McDonald’s anytime you want.

For anybody actually interested, muzak actually has a ton of different channels. A lot different from what people think of traditional elevator music.

@JoshN01 that’s odd because this is the McDonald’s mood (muzak) station.

Maybe yours is the exception?

Can anyone remember the last time they were in an elevator that had music? Or is that just one of those anachronistic phrases?
@walarney
Every in the elevator has earphones.
I’m sure they’re all listening to the Spotify Muzak channel.

@walarney Lately it’s been much more common to be in an elevator that has a small television with some sort of news on it.
