@jbartus, this giphy’s failure to load is your fault.
I celebrate a country in which we have scapegoats to blame and animated gifs that sometime load as intended. I celebrate a country in which we are free to wait as long as possible for a really really lazy giphy to load, unless we get evicted or something.
@awk I heard something about that so I did a Google search. I found research papers that said that Listerine, with about 14% ABV, increased risk of oral cancer. Others said it was not statistically significant.
The theory is that the alcohol in Listerine, and in alcoholic beverages, dries the membranes of the gums and throat. This makes it easier for the carcinogens in tobacco smoke to pass through the membranes into the blood stream.
I use this. It really helps if you have bleeding gums. Also available in mint flavor, but I prefer the weird orange version 'cause it’s like rinsing with a melted Creamsicle.
For those who voted ‘No’ what do you have against basic hygiene? I am being serious and not facetious. Is it too much effort or too expensive of a habit? Please help me understand.
@elimanningface As far as cleaning your mouth, brushing and flossing is generally sufficient. The mouthwash I use most often is a fluoride mouthwash, but if I’m planning on drinking something or eating relatively soon i generally skip it since you’re supposed to wait after using the fluoride. There’s a different mouthwash I use if I’ve bitten my cheek or tongue and they’re inflamed.
@elimanningface I don’t know what order - mouthwash then floss then brush; floss then brush mouthwash, floss then brush then mouthwash?
If I get an answer I might start using mouthwash.
And in the end, its job is mostly about making your mouth “feel” fresh. “You don’t need mouthwash, but if you enjoy it, or you have bad breath and feel it helps, then there’s no substantiated risks to rinsing once or twice a day,” says Matt Messina, a member of the American College of Dentists and a spokesperson for the American Dental Association.
@looseneck nah, mouthwash is “effective” between teeth. So flossing first and rinsing after flossing with water or mouth wash can help to keep bacteria and tartar from settling between teeth.
I have extremely healthy teeth and gums and I’ve never used mouthwash. I have a Sonicare toothbrush that I’ve used for almost 20 years (I’m on my second, actually) they are the greatest thing. Can’t say if this knockoff is comparable, but the original is worth every penny.
@MrMark The difference once you’ve used one is astounding. I gave one to my sister for her birthday and she called me up immediately after the first use and said “My teeth have never been this clean!! I feel like I just went to the dentist!” That’s how it makes your teeth feel, and plaque is a distant memory. No offense, but is it really better for your dentist if you keep your teeth really clean? I cannot speak for this knockoff however, someone else said it sucked compared to the real thing.

@f00l Slowly I turn. Step by step.
@SSteve That was my first reaction too! Great minds.
@mehnyblooms
@SSteve
My first reaction was:
“Oops. Fuckup. And too late to edit.”
I thought the image would load, because it did in its own browser window.
My second reaction was:
“I am too stupid by 2/3.”
I blame @jbartus. Him, and allergies.

Yes. Whiskey.
@Fish_Kungfu That counts.
@Fish_Kungfu cask strength?
@hems79 no it doesn’t count. That doesn’t help your teeth in any way
@thekenya But it makes your breath smell fabulous.
@Fish_Kungfu I thought the “hip” kids brushed their teeth with a bottle of Jack?
@jml326 Nuthin but.
@sjk3 Only if your name has a $ in it.
I read once that alcohol mouthwash may increase the risk of oral cancer so that’s enough of an excuse to not use it.
@awk oh okay…see this I can understand.

@awk It’s a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of the alcohol I pour down there.
Oh hell, I don’t even use toothpaste.
@mamawoot Please turn the other way when you talk.
Silly, I brush my teeth.
Sonicare in the shower…Dentist approved. Teeth & gums are quite healthy.

@heartny My gums don’t bleed, but I still wanna try this now. Sounds delicious!

@jqubed OK, thank you. I buy your second reasoning more than the first.
@elimanningface I don’t know what order - mouthwash then floss then brush; floss then brush mouthwash, floss then brush then mouthwash?
If I get an answer I might start using mouthwash.
@looseneck my mouth doctor says floss, mouthwash, brush.
@jml326 But won’t that negate the mouthwash?
@elimanningface I’ve never had a dentist recommend mouthwash. Brush, floss, and rinse well. You Asked: Should I Use Mouthwash?

Where is the “sometimes” option?
@jqubed it doesn’t ask if you use it daily, or regularly. It just a simple question, with simple answers. Don’t complicate things.
Doesn’t say what for, so I put yes. Still have fresh breath, even though I just use it to drown my sorrows.
I will use it occasionally.
Usually when I get tonsils stones that leave some wicked bad breath or if I find a spot I missed while flossing that smells like death.

My dentist pretty much told me I’m wasting my money if I use it.

@MrMark My dentist told me to use both mouthwash and fluoride rinse.
I use Listerine when I have an injury or infection in my mouth, not to freshen my breath.
