Brother laser printer, mainly for work. I deal with many-paged proposals and RFPs (200+ pages sometime) and you just can’t review those coherently on any screen. And I produce reports and proposals of equivalent size, and it’s surprising how receptive people are when you can hand them a printed version, point them to the relevant sections, and avoid having to say, “as I said in the email …”
I have one because my one and only IRK gave me one. I got the HP instant ink thing. It’s kind of cool. Plus I moved and I don’t have a staples near by to print out my stuff so I actually need it now occasionally.

It is a joy to have that new cartridge sitting on a shelf when your printer runs out at 10pm on a Sunday night and OfficeMax/Staples, Sams/Costco, BestBuy/Microcenter are all closed.

I have a Dell color LED printer, which I wish my daughter hadn’t figured out how to use from her school iPad, but its biggest task recently was printing off 1200 sheets of cardstock to make door hangers for girl scout cookie season. Despite covid, we managed to sell a few hundred more packages than last year and in slightly less time, so thanks little guy for printing all that cardstock (once I figured out how to turn up your fuser temp, anyway!)
I’m embarrassed to say this - but I use my color laser printer to print my New York Times Crossword puzzles - and sudokus. I know I can do them online - but there’s just something about holding a pencil and actually “pencilling in” answers to the puzzles I’m at that “old school” age…
@c00leen I have to use the Apple Pencil with my iPad to fill out my nonogram puzzles, and if I didn’t have that, I’d probably print them out, because I just can’t get used to the feeling of finger-tapping them.
A Brother wireless laser and an Epson EcoTank. Love the EcoTank as it uses large reservoirs of ink that last forever. I fill them once every couple of years and the ink is super cheap. I never hesitate to print in color like I used to.
@cinoclav The ink ages and the chemicals break down over time (stabilizers help, but they’re not infinite). So it’s probably not printing the best with year-old ink in it.
I own an ancient Apple LaserWriter mainly as a decoration. Since it only works over LocalTalk & AppleTalk (but adaptable to ethernet) it requires a Mac from about 12 years ago or earlier.

An old HP all in one that won’t feed the paper properly so I have to coax it to take one sheet at a time. I only use black ink since I print work orders and invoices for business.
I have a new HP all in one still in the box because I just replaced the ink cartridge in the other one and I’m refuse to throw it away!!!
Also have a portable scanner which I use most of the time. The HP is only for things that won’t go through that.
Yep, two. An HP printer scanner combo that is mostly used for scan-to-email functionality but does do some prints. Then a cheap Canon using cheap third party inks that gets used all the time. School stuff for the kids, Amazon label returns, etc. We could not get by without a printer.

Fortunately they still sell the toner. I got it when it was already old - 2007 when the department was throwing it out due to the broken paper tray. Before that I had an early apple printer and before that a dot matrix. A friend gave me her old jet ink with a scanner and fax. It is kind of big and I mostly use only the scanner. Ink costs more than toner and I don’t like that the ink runs.

@sanspoint Is it an HP laser-that is the only type I will ever buy and use. The x cartridges now last for 9,000 pages and for some reason you can get new unopened ones on ebay for 2/3 the cost of Staples so the cost per copy is extremely low. And since most of the moving parts are in the cartridge, the printers last forever since every time you replace the cartridge it is like getting a new printer.
HP Instant Ink. Never run out again. Adjust your level to your print volume and save money and time. It’s a fixed price per page, so you know what it costs for any document of photo.
And I think they even have a free or ridiculously cheap option if you only print like 15 pages a month.
We still have one for Faxing! Surprisingly during Covid Faxes have been a fast, very secure, and (very outdated) accepted way to send documents to Government agencies and Dr Offices.
@sohmageek Um… you know that there are FREE FAX sites on the internet that you can use - FOR FREE? And you don’t need to pay for that old-fashioned land-line anymore! Think of all the money you’d save just by cancelling that landline! Probably enough to justify the purchase of the neat-looking printer!

I love my Epson Workforce WF-4734. I use it to fax and copy paperwork. I love that I change the settings onscreen, such as 2-sided print. It’s the best printer I’ve owned yet.
I print stuff. I had to print out my covid vaccine appointment info and insurance card yesterday. The day before I printed the registration for my sons summer camp so I could sign it. The day before that I printed out some stencils of a dove and cross for his 1st communion banner. The day before that I printed a few medication instructions for my mom because paper is easier than looking at her phone and she can check it off.

Brother MFC-7420. That I am pretty sure I bought refurbished for a good price, and I want to say it was 2004 but maybe a little later. For college cause I bought a “nice reliable” epson ink jet when I built my first computer that was a constant pain and dumped ink and just no. It’s still on it’s original drum and toner cartridge. I think I even sent a fax last year. The fact that ancient systems still force you to do faxes. Well that’s a different issue.

I also use scanners a LOT … both my old flat-bed and the multifunction one on the Brother.
We currently have an HP inkjet, with the “instant ink” $5 a month 100 prints option. Went through multiple printers before, with living in low humidity environment, I think the ink may dry in the cartridge faster, especially with low volume printing. Between that and maybe dust clogging the heads, seemed like we weren’t getting close to the number of prints we should. Now: $5 a month, and they ship ink before it runs out, have had it over a year, haven’t had to run print head cleaning or anything so far.

I use my printer to hold a steady flow of ink cartridges, it allows for thorough drying out of the cartridges.

@Mack To combat my ink drying out, I created a scheduled task that will automatically print out a colorwheel twice a week.
As it turns out, the ONLY thing I printed in the last 12 months are colorwheels. I have a phonebook-size stack of them.
It’s used mostly for the scanning feature, but also it collects dust and takes up lots of space.
Use my laser to print serious stuff. Use my color ink cartridge printer to print money to pay for the cartridges.

HP printers for labels and various documents. We actually have to do taxes on paper for Canada, so yeah, getting a lot of use out of it.
It’s also a scanner/fax/copier, so we use those functions as well.

Yes, both inkjet and 3d. Mostly, they are both used for unnecessary things.
Got rid of my last one about 4 years ago, ostensively because the damn cartridges kept clogging/drying.
And I’ve honestly only needed one about 3 times since then.
