@hchavers Done right, Cold Brewing is the only way to make shitty beans tolerable. And you shouldn’t knock it if you live in a warm southern climate like New Orleans. Hot coffee in humid 90 degree weather is not better than cold brew.

@jmbunkin FYI - A 2-oz espresso has about half the caffeine of a 8-oz cup coffee, so you can also switch to drinking an Americano (espresso + hot water) for the same effect when you get coffee out and about.
Sleep or Decaf…I had to make a choice. I know people that talk to me of sleep problems WHILE drinking coffee & for some reason never put the 2 together.

Then wife said that when she gets cold in the lab at work she drinks decaf to warm up. Says she has a couple of cups a week. Seems reasonable to me.
My first cup has caffeine. Any after that are decaf. Even if I have decaf in the afternoon it’s enough trace caffeine that it’ll keep me up. I don’t drink coffee for the caffeine. I like it as a carrier for my flavor of the day and cream.
The flavor of decaf depends on the method used to remove the caffeine and how the beans are roasted. The best (and most expensive) decaf brands use the Swiss water process on organic beans, then roast them in small batches. Done right, decaf is hard to distinguish by flavor, since caffeine has no flavor and the SWP extraction method keeps most of the coffee flavor intact.
I don’t usually buy decaf, as the “good stuff” is expensive and I’m not very sensitive to caffeine, but there are good decaf coffees out there. Many years ago, some of us switched our decaf-hating boss’s morning coffee to the SWP decaf version of the same brand. He never noticed until he nodded off in a mid-morning meeting.
Even if I didn’t hate coffee, I prolly wouldn’t drink decaf anyway.
I was never on board with Caffeine-Free Coke, even though the caffeine didn’t really do anything for me (well, unless I drank a whole two-liter bottle of it in one sitting. Never did that again). It was the principle of the thing, or maybe I just couldn’t handle more questions about what “real” Coke tasted like.
Coffee tastes like watered down mud, so less of an issue there.
@TheFLP caffeine free coke tastes terrible. i only have about half a can maybe once a month, but it has to be original. no diet, no coke zero, no caffeine free, and definitely not diet caffeine free i remember my paternal gramma would have that in her fridge when i was a kid and i’d get excited to have a soda and my hopes would quickly be dashed with one sip of that garbage. she also had “iced tea” in that fridge which was literally cold black tea. i soon learned that was very different from the jug of iced tea my maternal grampa always had - his was sweet tea!

I buy one can of decaf and one can of dark roast at Costco and mix them together. I drink 60-70 oz of coffee a day so I try to cut out some caffeine.
