I just told myself to start unfollowing people who post things on social media that make me uncomfortable. I’m tired of it constantly being full of drama and animosity.
Why? Resolutions are things you should be doing already. So, just do them! Just because it’s a new year doesn’t change anything about your life. If you want to improve, better, or change, just do your best to make it happen, or not at all. But always remember that change is a marathon, not a sprint! “Do, or do not. There is no try.”
Last year I kept it simple and resolved just to get more sleep and drink more water. I did slightly more of each, so I could barely pull that off. So I’ll just continue those, and maybe get the side yard finished up …
@stolicat That reminds me of my cat who died in 1998. He’d sit in the sink with the water running until it threatened to overflow the sink. Then he’d jump down and to do the wet cat dance. He also walked though bathtub water. Clearly he was part amphibian or reptile or something.
I say no because this is something I’ve been saying for a while. I guess it could be taken as a resolution.
This is the year I’m going to get my shit together. I have so many plans for my house and I really want to work on them for my mental health. I want my house to be something I can be proud of.
sammydog01 @elimanningface@TPS@f00l
Ok, I’m going to endeavor to get my house organized. I have a redonkulous amount of things still in boxes from when I moved.
@therealjrn I’m only 14 months into some boxes not unpacked (and thus stacked to the ceiling on one wall since I only have 2 rooms and no storage closet). Makes me feel better that I haven’t procrastinated long enough yet to “win”.
The one thing I have learned from all my moves if you don’t force yourself to deal with it in the first 3 weeks or so then the odds are high you will be in the mess you and I are in with unpacked boxes.
A desire to change or do something can be considered and implemented at any time, as others have noted above. Ones made in a semi-forced situation, such as New Year’s Eve, seem much more likely to fail. This brings disappointment or self-reproach, none of which we, at least I, do not need more of. Happy New Year!
I figure, all else equal, New Years is probably a slightly better time than other times to bring extra intentionality to life, with that week vacation, if you’re lucky enough to get it. You might have more space to reflect and think, and it does feel like a bit of a break with the prior year.
It’s been said above: if you want to change something, the time and date of the decision to start that change matters not. In 56 years I’ve never made any serious “New Year’s Resolutions” and I’ve not started now.
Given my age, you might think that I’d have learned that getting enough sleep and exercise are ways to feel better. When I make an effort to stop doing whatever and go to sleep at a reasonable time, I do feel better. I know this to be true. Yet at the end of a day it is so easy to just keep reading or watching TV or whatever and not go to sleep…
Anyways, about a month ago I decided I need to try to get to bed earlier and sleep more and so far I’ve been doing better, though not great. I guess it isn’t a New Year’s resolution and who knows how long I’ll stick with it but maybe it counts for something.
@baqui63 As someone who needs more sleep, but can’t stay that way, I both envy and dislike your situation. But I got a solid 8 last night (after only getting 4 hours the night before) so I’m happy for that.
It would have been really hard to keep anything. We had just come home from a long road trip Christmas Eve night and my resources were completely sapped. Anything I’d try to improve I would’ve completely failed the first day—all this besides several other complicating factors. I’m still exhausted. I don’t even know why I’m awake right now. I’m going back to sleep.
I resolved to stop procrastinating in 2021.
You can set a goal at any time T, and for any duration D. Nothing special about T = Jan 1 and D = 1 year.
I just told myself to start unfollowing people who post things on social media that make me uncomfortable. I’m tired of it constantly being full of drama and animosity.
I resolved not to answer any more Meh polls, and if I did, at least not answer silly questions about them in the forums.
OH SHIT
KuoH
I’ve only made a resolution once in my 42 years (leave the house every day–I worked from home, constantly, it was a problem) and did it.
This year I resolved to write one new song a week. I’ve probably only ever written 10 full songs in my life, so I’ve got my work cut out for me
@00 so… You’ve made a resolution twice in your life?
I resolved to make fewer frivolous online purchases. I’m looking at you, meh, woot, and amazon!
I resolved to make more resolutions. It hasn’t been going well
@Superllama7 I resolved not to make any resolutions. If I’m going to fail, may as well do it as soon as possible.
But @simplersimon, doesn’t this mean that you have succeeded? Or if you prefer, you have failed to fail?

Why bother
I made a resolution to not make a resolution.
@arieltf I resolved to put a “No Signs Allowed” sign on my fense facing the street.
@arieltf Same for me, A resolution to not make a resolution for the new year. So far, I’ve broken it only that one time.
Last year I kept it simple and resolved just to get more sleep and drink more water. I did slightly more of each, so I could barely pull that off. So I’ll just continue those, and maybe get the side yard finished up …

@RiotDemon good luck. I’ve been saying that since I bought my house. And then when you get one done the rain washes it out.
@RiotDemon I bet you get it done. Let us know?
/giphy you go girl
@RiotDemon Hey there! I have a reso-buddy now! Let’s do this!
@sammydog01 thanks! I’m feeling motivated!
@therealjrn we can do it!
I resolve to spend less time here and more at Woot because a lot of you people are sucking the life out of me. I need more positivity in my life.
@sammydog01 Hey!
@sammydog01
@sammydog01 oh no!!
@sammydog01 …but we need a fantasy football commissioner…
@sammydog01 Goodreads is also a fun hangout.
@rockblossom Aww, that was very positive!
@elimanningface I didn’t ragequit, I’m just backing off. I need to defend my title next year after all.
I’ll check out Goodreads- thanks for the suggestion!
@sammydog01 your 7th place title, right ?
@elimanningface I was happy to just make the playoffs.
@sammydog01 sad sammy. Still have 362 days to become cheery again. You placed twice. That’s impressive!!
@elimanningface @sammydog01 How many times did I place Uncle Eli?
@sammydog01 @therealjrn only 1…unless, do you have invisible children too?
Install an exhaust fan in the bathroom, and repair the damaged walls and ceiling.
Maybe. Who wants to know?
@therealjrn me!

@therealjrn
Re tidying up up and putting away and all that:
What’s the rush? You’re way ahead of schedule.
I resolved to not make a resolution I would not keep over 40 years ago. It is the only one I can keep.

Me though, I can’t even get through a todo list.
@InnocuousFarmer LMFAO. What vacation?
Yep. I resolved to stop worrying at work and find some other line of work outside of retail.
I also put in some super easy stuff like learning how to use chopsticks and a Waterpik.
Why not just be the best version of yourself every day.
They never stick. I’m just going to stay focused and see where the 20s take me
No because I’d be setting myself up for failure. This way if I want positive action, I will do it because I want to not because of a silly resolution.
It’s been said above: if you want to change something, the time and date of the decision to start that change matters not. In 56 years I’ve never made any serious “New Year’s Resolutions” and I’ve not started now.

Making a New Year’s resolution is a tradition. But I am a non-traditional kind of guy.
Nope. Never have and probably never will.
Vote Trump and keep MAGA
@BGreider I may be the only response to your bluster
Resolutions are setting yourself up for failure.
I don’t make any. That way, when someone asks me how I’m doing with my resolutions, I can say: “Keeping all of them so far!”
What? Is a resolution a thing? Meh, who cares.
No.
/giphy shrug emoji
No, because I’m an adult and recognize/enact change on parts of my life that need it all the time, not just when a number on the calendar changes.
My only resolution is to NOT make them
