@2many2no@stolicat Yes, back on old vacuum tube powered portable devices. They also had an A battery that wasn’t anything like our AA/AAA/AAAA batteries, and a C battery that is nothing like our C batteries. The B battery was typically very high voltage.
I’m an “Ultrafire” (generic Chinese knockoff brand) 3.7V Lithium; much less actual substance than what’s written on the label, and tend to leak and/or explode on you when taken out of my comfort zone.
@vonart Oh come on – film will come back just like VHS Betamax tapes and 8-track 4-track cartridges! And let’s not forget getting on the internet with a Commodore 64. The 64 means it’s a 64 bit computer, right?
@narfcake@tinamarie1974 Yep, I do. I /also/ have a Bernouli Box, though mine’s in the living room closet, along with a couple of zip and jaz drives, an 8" floppy for a DEC machine (no drive for that one), and a few reels of high speed tape from an old mainframe.
@narfcake@tinamarie1974@ybmuG Just by not throwing stuff out, you too can have a closet full of obsolete technology. There’s a Mac Plus in there too, along with a 2400 baud modem. It’s time to clean some of it out hehe
@narfcake@vonart@ybmuG I do have two VERY old desktop CPU’s sitting in my garage. One is from the mid 90’s. The other maybe early 2000’s. I haven’t tried boot them up in years, but they have moved three times with me over the years. Yes, I have a problem.
@narfcake@tinamarie1974@vonart I recycled about 20 CPUs recently, but still have plenty. I would bet my oldest that I still have is an Atari 800XL, complete with external 5 1/4 floppy drive
I’m that battery that doesn’t conform, and only fits one thing. If it goes dead, you might as well replace the whole thing, because good luck finding a replacement.
I am like an iPhone battery. Glued down to my current role, and not much use elsewhere. And good luck replacing me. (Maybe the new phones are better. The original iPhone then.)
@spacemart@stolicat@tinamarie1974 Really? This forum is full of off color jokes, innuendo and even a “fuck counter”. This is where you draw the line?
I think that we are all adults here and can understand a joke without taking it as encouragement to act out whatever seems to be promoted.
For fuck’s sake!
@mml666@spacemart@stolicat well opinions are like belly buttons, everybody has one! We are a pretty liberal group, but my opinion is that abuse is NEVER a laughing matter and I am entitled to voice my opinion, just like you.
@stolicat@tinamarie1974 its a risky joke to make if the audience is in or been through an abusive situation. I dont mean to trivialize it. I say potentially offensive things because it is very hard to offend me
@spacemart@stolicat Well and for a group this large you don’t really know your audience at that level. I am sad to say, it is a topic that is often trivialized, even by the police that are there to protect victims.
@spacemart@tinamarie1974 Thanks for your reply, @spacemart - I admit I chuckled for a second when I first read it, then what it said sank in - spousal/partner/familiar abuse is still too prevalent in many places, and many of us have something ugly in our past that a comment can bring up. When read, most process it through their experience and the somewhat detached “she” becomes “your mother” or “your daughter”, or just “you”, and it becomes a physical threat.
“Offensive” humor has its place (especially around here), when sarcastically highlighting the cruelty/absurdity/irony of actions, but it can sting when applied to open wounds.
LiPo battery, the kind used in RC drones and planes. Tremendously powerful but only really good for a few niche things that most people don’t care about. Prone to spontaneously ignite if mistreated or for no reason at all. Probably will be replaced by something better in a few years.
Any 9-volts here? Kinda square, hard to find, zaps the shit outta your tongue when ya lick it?
@jsh139 Great minds, running along similar yet different lines.
@jsh139 Try freezing it first before you lick it.
@jsh139 oh I had an uncle talk me onto putting my tongue on a 9 volt when I was a kid. I returned the favor to my younger sibling.
It was electrifying
@mossygreen haha yup!
@Kidsandliz
@jsh139 @Kidsandliz
Like of like that kid in Christmas story?
Oh wait, you meant freeze the battery first…
@jsh139 9Vs are made from 6 AAAA batteries, so you’re basically the battery equivalent of a bunch of toddlers stacked inside of a trench coat.
@ShotgunX or sardines in a can!
NiCad - get run down just from laying around doing nothing, and the older I get, the less energy I have.
Also, outdated technology.
And then there is a certain someone here who is like a fridge because that is where he keeps all his batteries.
@Kidsandliz Finally a question specifically for him, and he’s silent!
@Fuzzalini @Kidsandliz I was at a Bar Mitzvah for a friend of one of my kids all day Saturday, and have been tied up with other stuff all day Sunday.
Being a grown up sometimes sucks and shit…
I must be a hearing aid battery because people are always saying “what” when I talk to them.
I’m a 6V lantern battery. Awkward, bigger than I need to be for the job, and no one is really sure what to do with me.
I’m mediocre, like a C
/giphy like a C
@2many2no the best flashlights I have use “C”. It’s the perfect power and size point between the AA and the D.
Side question - was there ever a “B”?
@2many2no @stolicat Yes, back on old vacuum tube powered portable devices. They also had an A battery that wasn’t anything like our AA/AAA/AAAA batteries, and a C battery that is nothing like our C batteries. The B battery was typically very high voltage.
@stolicat :
@aetris @stolicat Those must have really dragged on your ears…
I’m like an 18650: too large for everyday, but man when you need some high energy stuff for just a little while, I’m your guy.
@fuzzmanmatt
/giphy getting hot in here
Computer battery. Nobody notices or cares until I’m not doing what they want.
Definitely self-propelled, not towed.
@rockblossom not as many artillery references in this thread as I expected.
@rockblossom
/giphy well done!
I’m like a potato battery. I’m not really that energetic or useful, but I’m novel.
A motorcycle battery.
Not super good looking, but it makes the ride a lot better!
I’m an “Ultrafire” (generic Chinese knockoff brand) 3.7V Lithium; much less actual substance than what’s written on the label, and tend to leak and/or explode on you when taken out of my comfort zone.
I don’t hold my charge while on the shelf.
@phendrick You must be a Ni-Cad, like me.
Where is the "in the refrigerator " option?
@CaptAmehrican Everywhere. Always. Forever and ever. The end.
I chose the watch battery, but I really feel like I’m more of a 9 volt battery. Also very niche, of extremely limited use in mostly obsolete devices.
@mossygreen
Like smoke detectors?
@DVDBZN Obsolete smoke detectors, yes.
I’m like a Baghdad Battery – mislabeled and almost assuredly not used how people believe I was used.
@Tin_Foil nice! I’d never heard of that.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baghdad_Battery
The bad battery in the set, bringing everyone down but must be used to make it work.
I’m outdated and nobody remembers why I’m around. I’m a size J battery. Behold my rectangle-y 6 volt uselessness.
@vonart J cells were somewhat common for film camera flashes – so yeah, still totally relevant!
@narfcake keyword being “were” hehe. I’ve gone through several myself, but they’re not exactly useful these days
@vonart Oh come on – film will come back just like
VHSBetamax tapes and8-track4-track cartridges! And let’s not forget getting on the internet with a Commodore 64. The 64 means it’s a 64 bit computer, right?@narfcake Well, I did just receive two albums on 5.25" floppy (released this year, no less!), so anything is possible.
@narfcake @vonart do you even have the hardware to access them??
@narfcake @tinamarie1974 @vonart Sadly, I do. I think I even have a Bernoulli Box in the attic somewhere.
@narfcake @tinamarie1974 Yep, I do. I /also/ have a Bernouli Box, though mine’s in the living room closet, along with a couple of zip and jaz drives, an 8" floppy for a DEC machine (no drive for that one), and a few reels of high speed tape from an old mainframe.
@narfcake @vonart @ybmug clearly I need to step up my outdated electronics game. I did just donate my palm pilot.
@narfcake @tinamarie1974 @ybmuG Just by not throwing stuff out, you too can have a closet full of obsolete technology. There’s a Mac Plus in there too, along with a 2400 baud modem. It’s time to clean some of it out hehe

@narfcake @vonart @ybmuG mine is an HP (I think) and it has a 5 1/4 and a 3 1/2. But an atari, really?!??!
@narfcake @tinamarie1974 @vonart In original boxes!
@narfcake @vonart @ybmuG
@vonart you sure you don’t want my vt-320 terminal for your closet?
I am an old Grove cell. Corroded and broken and giving off poisonous nitric oxide fumes.
I’m like a 9-volt battery. If you put your tongue on me, you’ll regret it.
@UncleVinny well that’s sad!
@UncleVinny thanks for the warning
@UncleVinny, there goes my Sunday evening plans.
@kittykat9180
I’m a BA5800/U… tall, awkward, and nonstandard.
@ThomasF there we go.
@ThomasF @UncleVinny I want to see these lyrics used in an energizer bunny commercial …
Dead
Maybe because I’m up at 2:30 on Meh…
I’m that battery that doesn’t conform, and only fits one thing. If it goes dead, you might as well replace the whole thing, because good luck finding a replacement.

@InnocuousFarmer The iPhone X has two batteries.

@narfcake pssh. I wish I was two batteries.
i’d say normal battery, like only when she really deserves it
@spacemart
/giphy battered women
@fuzzmanmatt @spacemart this whole convo seems super sleepy.
@fuzzmanmatt @spacemart
/image battered fish
@spacemart uuummmm
@spacemart @tinamarie1974 something very wrong here …
@spacemart @stolicat Glad I am not the only one to pick up on that!!
@spacemart @tinamarie1974 it may be a clever play on words, but it’s not funny, and dangerous to trivialize.
@spacemart @stolicat

@spacemart @stolicat @tinamarie1974 It can be funny and dangerous to trivialize.

Did you know that @carl669 is the keeper of the count?
@mml666 @spacemart @stolicat well opinions are like belly buttons, everybody has one! We are a pretty liberal group, but my opinion is that abuse is NEVER a laughing matter and I am entitled to voice my opinion, just like you.
@spacemart @stolicat @tinamarie1974 the one I go with is, “Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one and they all stink.”
@mml666 @spacemart @stolicat well, I was being polite and not calling you an asshole. Guess that went over your head.
@spacemart @stolicat @tinamarie1974 not me, just my opinions.
@stolicat @tinamarie1974 its a risky joke to make if the audience is in or been through an abusive situation. I dont mean to trivialize it. I say potentially offensive things because it is very hard to offend me

tl;dr - words matter.
@fuzzmanmatt @spacemart She’s very cute! I want to give her a raspberry on that belly…
Only with her consent, of course.
Probably a #6 “A” Dry Cell Battery.
@daveinwarsh very specific!
Beer w/ fish and chips.
@ZeroCharisma that’s a strange kind of battery
@moonhat @ZeroCharisma Batter … Battery … they’re interchangeable, right?
@moonhat @narfcake @ZeroCharisma Sure, fried fish is…well…battery. That tracks!
C … lights up around old Coleco electronic, handheld arcade games from the 80s.
half-charged

I don’t know but I do know I go through a lot of AAA.
@kittykat9180 I suppose that’s a lot better than going to a lot of AA. Just sayin.
