Cinoclav's Field of 32 Day 5
13Two items posted. One hot item which garnered endless whining and complaints while the other sharp one seemed to have generally satisfied mehtizens. Winner of the favorite least favorite item? Plasma Lighters were on fire most of the day and take it with the 23 to 16 final tally. I may actually consider this a small upset victory. It’s now midnight EST and the official voting is closed (as my eyes shall be shortly) so let’s move on to day 5!
In this corner, wearing a lovely set of AA’s (to the dismay of you 18650 battery fans) we have an all time favorite - Flashlights! But don’t think they’ll just be beaming in 24 hours without a worthy contender putting up a fight. In the opposite corner, wearing a lovely leather strap (or metal - depending on whether it’s kink night), flaunting their brains over brawn, we have - Smart Watches! Both have made their mark in meh history but only one can live to fight another day. Ready… set… vote!

@shahnm @stolicat So, what happens if everyone changes their votes to the winning entry after the whole thing is over? Or even better, we all change our votes to make the former losing entry the observed winner, and then blame @Cinoclav for rigging the election?
@mike808 @shahnm @stolicat I considered actually making this a legit contest and offering a prize to the winner but the only way of doing so would have been to require brackets submitted before it began. Since that wasn’t going to happen, you all can change whatever you want and it won’t make a difference to me. I’m taking the counts at the end of the night (or first thing in the morning) and using them to determine the winner. After that, they’ve lost all relevance. I’d still like to see the brackets for the fun of it, but we’re not running a million dollar tourney here.

Well I voted smart watches. My logic is a little convoluted, so bear with me.
I’m a little bit of a flashlight snob, because there’s at least some small chance that your life, well-being, property or something else you care about might depend on a flashlight. So I hesitate a little when buying flashlights from meh. Especially ones that claim they can pump out 1000 lumens from a couple of AA batteries.
It is much less likely that my life, etc. would depend on my smart watch. (Though given some absurd things that have happened in my life, I won’t say “impossible”. And to be fair, the Martian smart watches I’ve purchased from meh have saved me from numerous incidents of inconvenience or embarrassment, so that’s something.)
I’d be much more likely to buy something quirky/fun/borderline useless on meh than something my life might depend on. And quirky/fun/borderline useless is pretty much in the spirit of meh.
Also, the first thing I ever purchased from meh was a Martian Notifier, so definitely smart watches.
This may turn out to be the biggest beat-down of the entire tournament. Where are you Smart Watch fans?

@cinoclav I did. It’s in my bracket too. I thought it would win. I also have integrity, so I’m not going to change my vote for the winner after-the-fact.

@mike808 I don’t have any brackets to post… Just taking one day at a time here… So far it looks like I only have a 50-50 hit rate anyway.
So, what criteria are folks using to choose?
I’m pretty much using the, “if I had to buy one of these, which would I choose” criteria.

@DennisG2014 Yeah that is the one I am using but it can look like which is the lessor of two evils of things I would never buy too.
+1 for smart watches (wearing a meh Martian notifier as I type). Flashlights are those things I get FREE at Harbor Freight with any purchase…
