So this is a thing now. And OMG, it’s fucking delicious. Not too strong with a slightly spicy aftertaste. Now I’m really curious to see what it will taste like mixed with Vanilla Coke.

@gregormehndel@PhysAssist Bourbon works really well with cinnamon as well. A lil raw sugar, and possibly some other spices to taste, and you have a nice bottle of cinnamon liquor to serve.

@cinoclav so i just read the first article Google serves up. I didn’t even know Cajun Cola was from my hometown and pretty much only available here. But as someone who had it at the time the memory is entirely that of Coke with Red Hots in it. I see you said it’s more subtle than the Pepsi version. Cajun Cola was probably more like the Pepsi.

Pepsi did a cinnamon flavour a couple years ago. They called it Pepsi Fire. It was really the worst soft drink I’ve ever tasted. Worse even than their 1893 Ginger cola.
I’m assuming Coke’s implementation is more like cinnamon toast kind of cinnamon and less like cinnamon red hots?

Found it where I work. Split a bottle with a colleague. I found it pleasant, a bit of spice aroma, and a bit of lingering cinnamon flavor. Would go well with rum.

The actual product in the can is not as much of a cost factor as the can itself, and even though there is more material in the 12oz can, the shear volume of them made, makes each 12oz can cheaper then the cost of an 8oz can.
Meds are the same way at the hospital sometimes. It is cheaper to use 80mg out of a 125mg vial and chuck the rest instead of using 2 X 40mg vials…
@chienfou@sammydog01@SColburn Back to the flavor, I tried a couple of cans warm (European style). I sometimes drink Coke warm anyway, but the cinnamon stuff is really good that way. Cinnamon is, after all, associated with warm buns (watch it, you a-holes!), etc. Your mileage may vary.
@amehzinggrace I’m really torn on the new orange vanilla Coke. I love that creamsicle flavor normally but this doesn’t quite do it for me. I don’t dislike it but I definitely like the cinnamon version better.
@LaVikinga do you use orange zest in yours? I think usually it’s just cinnamon and sugar although I did have a teacher whose wife made some fantastic orange bread. I could see that working in a cinnamon roll.

@unksol I cook by eye/taste for many things. The glaze is one of them. When I make the rolls, I generally make several pans because I’m sending them into work with my husband.
Basic recipe starts with 16 oz. confectioner’s sugar, 1/4 tsp salt, 6-8 TBS melted butter, finely grated orange zest of one orange, freshly squeezed orange juice, whipping cream, tsp vanilla extract.
Melt butter in a microwave safe bowl. After melting, add vanilla extract, salt, orange zest, about 3 TBS of whipping cream. Slowly mix in sugar. Once combined and smooth, begin adding orange juice until you reach desired consistency.
If I am using The Pioneer Woman’s easy no-knead recipe, I tend to make the glaze on the thinner side so it can be ladled over finished rolls while warm instead of being spread. The glaze gets down into the nooks & crannies better that way.
If I have an entire stick of butter, I use it. If only 3/4 stick, then that’s fine, too. I mix it by hand with a fork adding more sugar, or thinning it out with the orange juice or cream. Like I said, it’s all by eye and taste.
@tinamarie1974 just the way grandma and mom always made them. My sisters are currently hording the recipe cards and don’t seem to understand the concept of a scanner. Im not sure im ever getting a copy unless I force the issue and print them for everyone. They are in cursive though. Little hard to translate.

She’d stand next to my grandmother while she cooked with measuring cups and spoons and catch everything as it was added to get the actual quantities. The recorded recipes never tasted quite as good as the originals, as grandma was always varying things and adjusting taste, texture and thicknesses as she went.
