It used to be fun when it was in store only and it really was best prices.
Once black Friday started bleeding into thanksgiving day, and online was better prices than in store making there no longer a point to get up early and go to stores, it just became boring.
When stores have “black Friday sales” in October… And every sale is called black Friday even if not very good it makes black Friday mean nothing now.
Black Friday became an ever expanding event, diluting the whole “insanely low prices” + bought plenty over the years = lesser and lesser importance as the years go on.
I did go out this morning, though. Harbor Freight mini toolboxes (for actual use, not reselling!) and fueled up my car.
@narfcake That IS ridiculous. I saw online that that there are some that don’t have the Harbor Freight logo that are selling for a lot less. Well, not less than the Black Friday price, but less than the scalper’s price.
@Kyeh@sammydog01 Lowe’s offers more colors, though the consensus is that they’re not as well made, with the drawer glides being the biggest demerit. The US General has ball bearing tracks, the Kobalt doesn’t.
They’re $13 this BF/CM weekend (regularly $20) and the Lowe’s around me still shows stock. The HF is $10 for BF (regularly $18) and my local stores were out of stock within minutes.
@Kyeh@narfcake I ordered a lavender one from Lowe’s. I might return it. Lowe’s also has a 3 drawer base but they’re out of stock. I guess I could wait for Harbor Freight to restock and just pay $20 if I really want one.

There’s sometimes a good online deal on something I want, but BF really has no meaning anymore. It starts weeks before, and doesn’t end until Christmas it seems. And of course there’s whatsit Monday.
I may or may not have spent wasted more money on shirts I didn’t need yesterday. Shirt.woot was 45% off on 2+ and there was a 20% off when checking out on the app – but instead of deducting off the discounted price, the 20% came off the full price, so they were effectively 65% off.
Some weren’t even catshirts.
Current promo is spend $30 anywhere from Woot, get a $19 shirt.woot coupon good for use in the following week.
Not the crazed frenzy it used to be but I think I end up spending more, probably, since the sales start days before. I still managed to go to one actual store today (Home Despot) but it was about 5:30 and very few other customers were around.
Since the late 70’s my family all do their Christmas lists on Thanksgiving then my parents and I shopped Black Friday. Starting at the Reading outlets ending at some mall or department store. We never hit those stampede inspiring sales, changed stores over the years depending on what was wanted. Later I started going online Saturday for things we couldn’t find.
My parents are gone and my family don’t even do lists any more. Black Friday I decorated instead.
@callow I remember Thanksgivings from the early 2000s when my in-laws (the young ones) would pore over the ad insert from the newspaper and plan their Friday shopping trips. I did that once and wound up crying in a crowded store.
My TV broke this morning.
Suspicious.
@jouest
Next time completely cover your television in aluminum foil at all times. That way the TV won’t know when black Friday is.

Two words: diamond potato.
@sammydog01
It’s driving me nuts that I didn’t try for one. Didn’t even check CAH even tho I thought if doing it.

@narfcake Yay, you got one! (Or some?)
@Kyeh Two, which was the limit. Folks are paying $40+ on eBay, which is pretty ludicrous.
I bought them to use for some measuring tools and scales.

@Kyeh @narfcake Those are cute, I should have tried for one. Lowes has something similar, Kobalt branded, that comes in a bunch of colors. Even purple.

@Kyeh @sammydog01 If you’re still in for one, stores have restocked.
(It’d be funny if all the eBay
entrepreneursscalpers lose out now, what with being able to purchase again at regular price.)@Kyeh @narfcake @sammydog01
Shades of Game Stop…
@narfcake @sammydog01 Cool, thanks.
@Kyeh @narfcake I stopped by, no luck yet.
I did it in person exactly once. Got a crap TV cheap. Definitely not worth the time it cost me.
I hate crowds, but was disappointed there were no TV style riots.

Looking for a good deal on a large SSD this year.

Bleach. Not worth the hype
@Cerridwyn whitest whites though

Bought some black Friday kindle books for 1.99 on Wed and Thursday.
EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!
@mediocrebot No, taxes are not awesome.
MEALS! DEALS! EELS! AWESOME!

One of my favorite movies of last year:
/giphy thanksgiving movie
It starts with Black Friday store riot. Then serial murders. It’s called Thanksgiving.
