This’ll probably run smoother and faster than my 20+ yo truck, though I doubt it has the same carrying capacity.
And I don’t have the time to work on both.
the movie reference is from the classic film Stand By Me, particularly the scene where the kids finally find the dead body, and begin playing with it like it’s a toy car, going “vroom, vroom” while pushing it around the lakeside.
Pretty Cool but few kids today (Grandkids) are into things like this. If it ain’t electronic, digital, online or a video game it’s of little interest.
I’ll save my $15 for the next Big Kid Toy
If it was a general construction set that would be a better toy. I found a metal set similar to an erector set at a thrift store 20+ years ago. I still use it for making other things than suggested in the instructions. I made a stand to hold a small TV antenna I still use.
Info for this states there are metal components. It appears that only the wheels are plastic but it is hard to tell from the picture.
@bobhobard@mehmef From my POV, it’s all LEGOs to me. You don’t have to use anything for its intended purpose. If it can solve a different problem, then you are good.
@UncleMel I don’t agree at all. LEGO continues to thrive because it has great branding, themes, IP licenses, and they’ve done an amazing job adapting to changes in culture and technology. I really enjoyed Erector sets, but the product didn’t evolve much and it just isn’t as attractive.
This looks like a killer toy. B&D is a reputable company and while the kids division may tank, this kit could keep a kid busy for days which is a damned near invaluable asset. Sell for $100 elsewhere. That alone will get me to but 1. Or 2.
I bought this for my nephew. It is formidable piece of equipment and well worth the price. Or you could buy a labubu stuffed animal for $150. that will wind up in the stuffy basket next week.
@bobhobard@pakopako Wow! I wonder if you could “lock” the hair in place with a resin or hair spray or TBD. Then you could make them into creepy(?) art fair products. Invest in googly eyes.
This would look great on the top shelf of my closet with the model cars and other things I’ve bought that I’ll do “when I have some extra time”
Same, so maybe I’ll send 2 of them to the grandchildren in Colorado, who probably won’t want it, but it might satisfy my need to buy it, ya think?
@jmrobinett I have a step-grandkid that I have decided to use as an excuse to acquire one, though he’s a bit young for it at the moment.
@jmrobinett @werehatrack Egg-salad! You will need to pre-build it to make sure it is safe,
.
@jmrobinett I’m in colorado, you can send to me while you’re at it
@jmrobinett step-grandpa what are you doing??
@jmrobinett @werehatrack
They have one for 5 and up on side deals today
@pooh58 Pfui. It’s all plastic. Do Not Want.
@cfg83
Yes. This is essential. I will need two of them.
@werehatrack Heh heh heh …

Dammit. Want. Just because. Can’t justify.
@werehatrack same here! For me it is a Cash flow issue, way too much flowing out. Plus not electric!
@werehatrack Yup, can’t ju$tify either. They should show alternate builds of the parts to ignite our mechanical minds.
Pretty cool actually…still pressed meh

It is an an ERECTOR Set.

@omally You are channeling the truthy truth. I never saw it in theaters. When I saw it on TV they had cut that scene to fit in more commercials.
@omally no spoilers there…
@JohnQ118 @omally well, it is a 30+ year old movie…

@dahobbs9 the next big kid toy will likely run ten times that
@dahobbs9 AND THAT is why they should receive an ERECTOR Set.
I’m 63 and still have the Erector set I had as a kid. Nice to see they’re still around in some form.

@mehmef dude-if you are using a TV antenna held up by an erector set creation, what do you use to clean the cave with.

There’s one for younger kids over on sidedeal today too
Erector sets. Didn’t wanna touch 'em as a child; don’t want 'em as an adult. Guess I’m not destined to be Howard Roark…
Excuse me; these are not power tools from Black and Decker. Therefore margs ARE FULLY RECOMMENDED!
Obviously, Black & Decker should stay out of the toy business and stick to making… wait, what do Black & Decker even make?

They still make these? I remember seeing an unfinished kit of this as a boy and have never seen one on a shelf ever since.
There is a reason Lego is one the biggest companies and Erector set is a memory, it just wasn’t fun!

I was in for one for the puppycat, but then I came back and grabbed 2 more for the other 2 hellions she’s closest to.

I can’t tell from the picture here – does this have steering or are the front wheels fixed?

@Bretterson I really expected better.

150? Workaround
