@therealjrn Big ELP fan. I saw them live in concert in the late 70’s. Keith Emerson, in particular, was amazing. At one point during a keyboard solo (some long up-tempo bit from Karn Evil 9, I think), he and his console were elevated about 20 feet above the stage and began rotating along the horizontal axis as he played - he never missed a beat.
@macromeh@therealjrn. … absolutely! I saw the Tarkus tour at the St Louis arena in March of 72. When that armadillo came up over the speaker banks it was fucking awesome!
it’s the Stifel not the Stiefel (you have it right and wrong)
"The 3,100-seat main theater (the Stifel) was completed in 1934 as part of the Municipal Auditorium complex that included the 9,300-seat Convention Hall that later became known as Kiel Auditorium) (source: Stifel website you linked)
The Opera House {now called the Stifel Theatre} is all that remains of the original complex and extends south approximately 250 feet, where it meets Enterprise Center, the arena completed in 1994 that replaced Kiel Auditorium (same source)
Back in the day, it was originally known as the Municipal Opera House, then as Kiel Opera House, and finally Peabody Opera House before its current name (from the Stifel wiki page)
Hope that clears it up… and yes the STIFEL is a beautiful space as well.
@chienfou@macromeh@therealjrn so we are talking about the same place, right? You should google articles about the restoration. I was too tired last night to look.
@macromeh@therealjrn@tinamarie1974
well, sort off… Kiel auditorium was a HUGE venue that seated 9300 and has now been razed and replaced with the Enterprise center.
The Stifel was part of the same complex but is smaller (3100 seats) and has now been restored, having been spared during the demolition of the complex in the early 90’s
Minnesotan. I vote all of the above. Especially if floating covers canoes and kayaks as well as those inflatable tubes. Plus, skating on it & skiing on it. Have to wait a few moths for those, though.
I live in Michigan. I hate lake swimming. Gross, cold, waves are too big on the big lakes. The small lakes are full of goose poop, algae, and weeds. I have enough friends with pools, I’ll happily go there.
I enjoyed motor boating, and I expect I’d enjoy jet-skiing, but the lakes we used to frequent had all the ‘fun’ variants of that shut down; too many people, not enough lake.
Fish on it.
@davea510 You might have more luck if you fish in the lake…
(Assuming that the goal is, in fact, catching fish. If not, you just go ahead, fish on that lake, and you do you.)
@davea510 fishing from a boat
@davea510 @shahnm … fly fishing?
@chienfou @davea510 @shahnm I don’t understand fly fishing. Aren’t there enough pesky flies without going out of your way to find them?
@davea510 @shahnm @therealjrn Nope, you don’t fish for the little bastards, it’s better to hunt them…
@chienfou @davea510 @shahnm @therealjrn isn’t fly fishing the same thing as pocket pool??
Canoe/kayak on it
As a computer background
With Emerson and Palmer. Duh.
Dang @therealjrn! That’s what I came here to say! Mmnnbbbbgfflllbbbfff!

EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!
@chienfou @macromeh @therealjrn I so miss the old Arena
@mediocrebot
Bite me Emmett…
POPSOCKETS! SPA KITS! POLLY POCKETS! AWESOME!
@macromeh @therealjrn @tinamarie1974 yep that was a great venue… As was Kiel Auditorium
@chienfou @macromeh @therealjrn Kiel is beautiful and operational again
http://www.stifeltheatre.com/
@macromeh @therealjrn @tinamarie1974 the Kiel was demolished in 1992…
@macromeh @therealjrn @tinamarie1974 but they did save the Stifel when they took down the Auditorium
@chienfou @macromeh @therealjrn uummmm no, it is now Stiefel. It was restored several years ago. Check the link I sent you
@macromeh @therealjrn @tinamarie1974 OK, not to pick nits but:

@RiotDemon No Spoiler alert?
@Limewater 39 years wasn’t enough?
We’ve been doing all of the above this week.
@jsh139 gorgeous! Where is this?
@moonhat poconos. Specifically, Roaming Woods Lake in Hamlin, PA.
Fish in it and then cook the catch next to it enjoying the breeze and the view. Rocky Mountains here I come! (wishful thinking)
By going to the ocean
@kittykat9180 Exactly!
I live in Michigan. I hate lake swimming. Gross, cold, waves are too big on the big lakes. The small lakes are full of goose poop, algae, and weeds. I have enough friends with pools, I’ll happily go there.
By avoiding it altogether.
@ZeroCharisma
Hanging out in your “vintage” ski boat
No thank you nature is bad.
@InnocuousFarmer Exactly! Brain-eating amoebas are my reason for staying out of water too.
One gallon at a time, I always say.
Swimsuit competition, though usually have better pool at the beach.
Watching it on TV
Float on it with a beer
Fishing, from the banks/shore or a boat
I enjoyed motor boating, and I expect I’d enjoy jet-skiing, but the lakes we used to frequent had all the ‘fun’ variants of that shut down; too many people, not enough lake.
Any of the above is fine depending on the lake… And time of year
